POPULARITY
Today's podcast guest is Dr Dan Plews. Dan is one of our most frequent and popular guests. He and ‘The Prof' Paul Laursen have an on going competition to be at the top of the list with most appearances on the show. It's been a while since I chatted with Dan and since the last conversation he's made a welcome and very successful return to racing, having crossed the line first overall at the 2022 IM New Zealand, and then getting a personal best of 8:18 at Challenge Roth despite a troublesome Achilles. Our chat today is centred around Dan's successful goal to race a ‘fast' Ironman. At Ironman California in October last year he again crossed the line first and posted a 7:56. Dan has a lot going on in his life - a young family, research projects, coaching a group of elite Ironman triathletes, working with the New Zealand Olympic kayak team, and his EndureIQ online education programme. There's a lot to unpick when it comes to how he made this sub-8 happen, including: Finding balance, and why commitment to a goal means saying NO Back to back training for time management How you can always find marginal gains The role of carbs in triathlon performance and why the LCHF approach works for him A huge surprise as Dan declares his new found love for strength training Dan is right up there with some of the smartest (and down to earth) people I know so I hope you enjoy the show! To find out more about Dan please visit these social media channels Dan's personal Instagram - theplews Dan's business Instagram - endure_iq Please check out the new Endure_IQ course on strength & power training for triathletes - In the podcast, Dan talks about fuelling his Ironman races on just 50g of carbs/hour and why he doesn't believe that 120g/hr makes sense. He explains more in this blog post: 120g/hour - deciphering the carbolution craze Also in the conversation Dan mentioned that his goal to race a ‘fast' Ironman was inspired by reading this book: Die with Zero - Bill Perkins To contact Beth regarding Life Coaching, please email her at Info@BethanyWardLifeCoaching.uk. In this episode of The Greg Bennett Show, Greg has a delightful conversation with Dr. Hannah Wells. Dr. Hannah Wells is one of the greatest prospects to hit the world of Triathlon. In her short time as a professional athlete, she has won every major ½ distance race in the Oceania region: including the Tauranga 1/2, Challenge Wanaka, and the Ironman 70.3’s Sunshine Coast, Western Sydney, Taupo, & Geelong amongst others. Even more spectacular she’s 72 hours off the back of debuting in her first Ironman, in IM New Zealand which she won convincingly in 9.01 hr/min. And if that is not enough, she has a Ph.D. in Biotech Engineering. She did her Ph.D. looking at the structure of collagen in a range of tissues and natural materials and won two international awards. In this episode, we get a better understanding of how she does it all and looking at her journey and her process. Dr. Wells describes her journey into the world of Triathlon. Only starting the sport in her early 20's her rise to the top has been remarkably fast. She spent many years balancing her work and Triathlon and adventure racing. But after a successful 2019, she has gone all-in on the sport of Triathlon. She discusses her love of the sport of Triathlon, the people, the training, and the racing. She explains the importance of listening to her body and adapting the training accordingly, Her advice to never stop learning and to focus on the process is something we all need reminding of. This week, Alyssa and Haley chat with Dexter Yeats, the oldest female competitor at Kona in 2019. Dexter talks about how she got started in triathlon, how the sport has changed through the decades, and what keeps her going to chase that finish line. From learning to swim to missing the qualification for Kona several times, Dexter has faced her fair share of challenges but never let anything stop her. She shares priceless wisdom on getting out of your comfort zone and being a trailblazer. At 74 years old, Dexter shows no sign of slowing down - so watch out 75+ ladies. Plus, Alyssa preps for IM New Zealand, Haley preps for the Olympic trials, and our hosts answer a mailbag question about racing a marathon before a 70.3.

From the time she was 5 years old, Jocelyn McCauley had athletic aspirations. At that time she saw herself as an Olympic medalist. She channeled her dreams into cross country, a sport she competed in throughout high school and college at BYU. After graduation, she discovered her love for longer distances and began running everything from 5Ks to half marathons. She registered for her first half-Ironman in 2013 at IM Muncie, completing that race in under five hours -- only 11 weeks after giving birth to her first child. She followed up that performance at IM Texas in 2014 with a full distance, where she won her age group and finished as the 2nd amateur female, qualifying for Kona. Later that year, she competed at Kona -- her second ever full Ironman -- and was the first female age-grouper to finish that race. She decided at that time to go pro. Since then, she has won 2016 IM Mallorca, IM New Zealand in 2017, as well as 70.3 Vichy, France. She also finished 2017 IM Kona in 10th place, with a 30th place finish in 2018.
