"It's what kept me going. It also drove me crazy at times, but I think it is what kept me in the sport, kept me pushing " - Eva Goodisson, Professional Triathlete. Eva represents New Zealand in Triathlon, currently gearing up for the Rome World Cup this Saturday Oct 5th. Starting out as a competitive swimmer and seeing success as a teen, Eva took an opportunity to run D1 Track at UC Davis in California USA, and is now is bringing all her skills together as an elite triathlete. Graduating in 2021, she went full throttle into her pro-athlete pursuit. It paid off when she got a spot as Reserve for the Commonwealth Games that same year, was introduced to the Elite Team, and propelled into competing on the world circuit. When a neural back injury came out of no where during a routine gym session just after her best placing, Eva began a tough two-year recovery journey which saw her strengthen her mind in ways never before anticipated. 2024 has seen her truly excel in her competitions already, and it is a gift to learn how she managed to navigate that time. Some wisdom Eva took away from her time in California, was that a diverse life full with multiple areas of focus away from sport, made her a better athlete. Balance is key. Have you ever wondered about the life of a professional triathlete? In this podcast series, we interview current and retired QT2 Systems Professional Triathletes, exploring the path to earning (and maintaining) a pro license, the nuts and bolts of training and racing, and the ups and downs along the way. The guests also share how being a pro triathlete shaped their lives, and what advice they would give to their younger selves. Episode 3 features Lenny Ramsey. Neuroscientist by day. Triathlete by night. This woman somehow found a way to balance it all. Lenny "fell" into the sport of triathlon in 2014 as a path to recovery from knee surgery. She soon found that she had a natural talent (coupled with a tremendous work ethic), and in just her second season racing, qualified for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships. The following year, she took the overall Age Group win at two IRONMAN 70.3 events, earning her pro card. Lenny started racing pro in 2017, now coached by Tim Snow. Over the next six years, Lenny raced full seasons as a pro triathlete while at the same time continuing with her full time job and life at home. To keep it all in the balance, Lenny learned to be very strict with her schedule and focus on what she was doing at that moment in time (and not worrying about what she wasn't doing). After a strong race at IRONMAN Maryland in 2023, Lenny decided to retire from the sport of triathlon. The balance of life had shifted enough that she no longer felt like she had the time she needed to compete at the level she knew she was capable. When asked if she would do it again, her answer was "100% ... I wouldn't give it up for the world." She will forever value the opportunity she had to race at the highest level and to learn what her body was capable of. Her advice to her younger self - "Don't put so much pressure on yourself ... things don't always need to be perfect." With Jesse's support and a new perspective, Anne re-entered the world of elite triathlon racing, and continues to this day. For Anne, her most memorable moments are not her best results, but rather the steps of her personal journey to push herself to her highest level. Memorable moments were the times when she did something that she didn't think she was capable of. Episode 1 features Linsey Corbin. Linsey joined the pro ranks in 2006. In her 17 years a professional triathlete, she raced more than 30 IRONMAN events, taking the overall win a remarkable 8 times (and finishing on the podium a total of 20 times). Linsey also raced 15 IRONMAN World Championship events - the most of any professional woman. Linsey was coached by QT2 Systems founder Jesse Kropelnicki from 2014 through her retirement in 2022. Already a multi-time champion and top five Kona finisher, she came to Jesse because she "wanted someone who genuinely cared" and who would pay attention to all of the details. Jesse taught her that to be successful, she needed to balance her training. He was there to hold her back when she needed to be held back, and push her when she needed to be pushed. She also enjoyed and valued being a part of the QT2 Team. If you do had the opportunity to do it all again, would you? "Oh Yeah"! Don't think just do. We talking training, racing, nutrition, living in Boston, and how Alice got so good at swimming so fast! Have a listen!

Tom Davies doesn't have a particularly conventional background as a professional triathlete. He cycled around the World at the age of 19, wrote a book about it while studying for an engineering degree and combined it with cycle racing at University. But the dream of doing sport as a living never disappeared, and within four years, Tom went from doing his first triathlon to getting his professional license. You'll hear:05:00 Tom talks about what sparked his interest in cycling around the world as a 19 year old. 09:00 What did his Mum say when he said 'Mum, I'm going to ride around the world as a teenager?'11:00 Tom talks about riding to Chamonix with his Dad when he was 1513:00 Why Tom believes he's naively ambitious and why he believes you can surprise yourself with what you're capable of.15:00 The art of moving on and why Tom didn't find it too challenging to transition from finishing his round the world ride to starting University.17:00 The art of fitting in writing a book, while studying for a University degree and competing in bike racing. 'it was the hardest I've ever worked, probably harder than the ride itself.'19:00 His journey from racing bikes at University to becoming a full time professional triathlete. How he fell out of love with bike racing 'it was like flicking a switch. But I still craved some sort of validation from sport and when you are at loughborough, you can feel a bit inferior if you are not at that top level. 22:00 Going from beginner triathlete to professional in 4 years and why he wants to give it a go and why he's also wanted to do sport for a living. 'Swimming, cycling and running is when I'm most happiest'25:00 How does he survive as a new professional? He explains that his parents support him, and some support from sponsors and he is part of the TTL development team. 'Ultimately if this all comes to nothing, that's okay, I will be grateful for having had it in my life."27:00 Tom explains further what being in the TTL Development Team involves, under Paula Findlay and Eric Lagerstrom. 30:00 What does Tom what to achieve in the world of triathlon? 'I want to figure out a way to do this as a living. My goals for this year was to retain my pro license and get into the top 250 in the world. 32:00 Having to be patient as a new professional triathlete with limited experience in the sport. 30:00 Going into certain races knowing you're not going to win. (Yet.) How do you balance that with wanting to be the best?37:00 Tom talks about keeping a blog and why he is so self aware. 'It's me trying to come to grips with what I'm feeling and how I'm feeling certain things and getting it down is my way of dealing with it.' 40:00 Would Tom cycle around the world again with more life experience under his belt? 'The world of ultra endurance has changed a lot since I did it. If someone said you have to cycle around the world again, I would either go a lot slower and take in as much culture as possible, or I would try to do it really fast. It would be one of those extremes." If you want to commit to something, you have to commit 100%, I don't know if pro triathlon is going to be my life for the next ten years but trying to get better is the right path for me to be on right now."Find out more about this week's guest:Tom Davies InstagramTom Davies websiteLike what you heard?Let me know! Pro Triathlete, Collin Chartier, admits he used EPO and we use that as a launch point for how a lot of us get trapped in the game of chasing no matter the consequences. We are all human, so it's a mystery why things like this surprise us. It's going on at the age group level as well, but the point is, the only person we can really count on is ourself. In today's episode, we speak with Heather Jackson about...Her background and future in multi-disciplinary sports Nutrition mistakes she's learned from in the past How her fueling and hydration game plans change before, during, and after triathlons, gravel cycling, mountain biking, and ultra trail running Heather Jackson is a professional athlete who spent the first twenty years of her life dabbling in a variety of different sports before focusing on ice hockey, playing Division 1 collegiately as well as intermittently for the United States' Women's National Team, ultimately trying to make the 2006 Olympic Games. Not making the team for the Torino Games, combined with the lack of options for women's ice hockey post college, she found herself inspired by the novel physical demands of swimming, biking and running after attending a local sprint triathlon with her parents. Jackson fell in love with testing her individual limits after 20 years of team sport, and found success in triathlon, racing professionally for almost 15 years, winning some of the most prestigious events in the sport along the way. She is a 6x Ironman Champion, 16x Half Ironman Champion, and Escape from Alcatraz Champion. She made her biggest mark at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii where she placed in the top five four times, including a third place podium finish in 2016.Please note that this podcast is created strictly for educational purposes and should never be used for medical diagnosis and treatment.See you in the next episode!***Book a FREE 15 minute phone call: https://nutritional-revolution.com/work-with-us/Supplements that Improve Performance Mini-Course: https://nutritional-revolution.com/product/supplements-that-improve-performance-mini-course/Menstrual Cycle Support Program Bundle: https://nutritional-revolution.com/product/menstrual-cycle-support-program-bundle/***Mentioned:Heather JacksonInstagram: @hjacksonracingWebsite: https://heatherjacksonracing.com/YouTube: @heatherjacksonracingMORE NR New customers save 10% off all products on our website with the code NEWNR10 If you would like to work with our practitioners, click here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/work-with-us/ If you're interested in sponsoring Nutritional Revolution Podcast, shoot us an email at nutritionalrev@gmail.com.
