RETRO RHLSTP #67 - Kickstarter"This is the most self indulgent thing I have ever done", says Richard Herring as he bounds on to the familiar stage of the Leicester Square Theatre. And who are we to argue - for the guest on this week's show is none other than Richard himself. With a combination of swagger and poor camera tricks we will finally get to see what makes the mysterious Herring tick. This podcast is a document to the kindness of the 2000 contributors to our recent KickStarter campaign to film every episode of the 8th series of Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast. Richard Herring is a comedian, podcaster, interviewer and writer. Once part of the comedy double act, Lee and Herring, with Stewart Lee, he's long since established himself as a solo act, although he's maybe best known for his interviews with comedians and other stars in his Leicester Square Theatre Podcast. Here he talks about what makes a good podcast, how he finds his material, the blog he's written every day since 2002, his obsession with sex, his experience of testicular cancer, the importance of family, the power of the audience, being taught by his father, who was headmaster of his state school, and breaking into comedy at Oxford. (This episode includes a brief reference to suicide. If you need someone to talk to, you can call Samaritans on 116 123).

John and Jude reform to discuss the Episode IX trailer and the film’s finally revealed trailer. We also have some catching up to do, including John’s exchange with Richard E Grant at a recent recording of Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast (this episode will be available on YouTube later this year), the fact that we are both working together again and therefore able to record more shows. We also return to the subject of the “Wish” sponsored advertisements we keep seeing on our Instagram feeds, and the bizarre products we are being targeted with (see Blah Wars #56 for more on this). This episode was recorded in an Oxfordshire pub, early on a Saturday using handheld recorders. We didn’t know at the time but there was a great deal of digital audio interference from our mobile phones throughout the show. In addition to this, you’ll also hear clinks, chinks, glass being smashed, and the ever increasing sound of a pub as it fills with hungry people. Never the less, we hope you enjoy it. In addition to this, a further 18 minutes of conversation was recorded and uploaded to our Patreon
Freddie and Jack discuss their favourite comedy podcasts, including Important If True, Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, My Dad Wrote a Porno, and Dexter Guff Is Smarter Than You (And You Can Be Too).
RHLSTP #100: Richard Bacon - A Series of Apologies. It's the 100th Leicester Square Theatre Podcast and the last in this series, so we've flown a special guest in all the way from America at the licence fee payer's expense, it's Blue Peter's bad boy, Richard Bacon. And in typical fashion he turns up at the theatre having been out all night celebrating his imminent 40th birthday. Where does he get his energy from?... oh right. Find out about how he once cried salty tears on to Mansfield McDonald's salty gherkins, how he became Top Of The Pop's most notorious ever presenter by accidentally calling some people fat, why he has been banned from the state opening of parliament, how he took a forgetful plate-spinner to Las Vegas, what he knows about the Tales of Robin Hood, what part of his anatomy (other than his mouth and nose) he can breathe out of, and why this gives him another kinship with Herring on top of his Dicky first name and food-based surname. Plus what he REALLY thinks of Una Stubbs (he thinks she's nice). And he gives himself something else to apologise for in a lifetime of apology. He's a very entertaining and lovely idiot, but as you'll see, it's all down to genetics. Hard to believe his one attempt at stand up-ended so badly. In this specially recorded session from the Radio Academy's Radio Festival 2014, Richard Herring, comedian, writer, online trailblazer and creator of the semi-legendary Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, chats to Absolute Radio's Geoff Lloyd about how he has become a podcasting sensation. He talks about how he shapes his brand, about mixing in free content and about engaging with his audience by building an active Herring community.
RHLSTP (BATMCF) Special! - it's like the Leicester Square Theatre Podcast but it's at the Machynlleth Comedy Festival in Wales and is at the packed Y Tabernacle. It's the first podcast since the show was nominated for a prestigious Sony so the pressure is on to keep the fellatio and bumming jokes to the highest standard. And the guests are rising stars and rival non-Sony award nominated podcasters Pappy's (all they've got is a new TV series, the losers). There's plenty of charity human centipede fun to be had with Huge Ackman, bleeding heads, Animal Antics, public nudity and the ham hand question is nearly destroyed, but becomes stronger. There's a half-hearted attempt to put a shrek in it which shows that boat has sailed and too much self-pity. But it doesn't matter, it's not a proper London one!
