Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the rest of the IMF crew are back for ONE last mission....to save the world from The Entity, a massive artificial intelligence collective which has spread so far it is now on the verge of taking over every major nuclear weapons arsenal. And the President (Angela Bassett) is running out of options as Ethan still has possession of ONE key item which our AI overlord still needs....a cruciform key. As this is a direct continuation of the previous Mission: Impossible sequel (Dead Reckoning) from a couple of years ago, most of that film's key cast returns including series stalwarts Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg, along with Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Esai Morales as the villainous Gabrial. Also returning is director Oscar-winning writer/director Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Jack Reacher) who has now helmed his fourth Mission:Impossible film in a row. Once again, the stunts gets crazier and The Cruise Missile seems to put his life on the line even more for the sake of pulling them off-screen - this leads to crazy action both underwater and up in the air! Send us a textFlashing back to episode #72 of Fabulous Film & Friends way back in 2023, we covered Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 and so we here on FFF felt duty bound to our fans to give our take on its follow up and what could very possibly be the final sequel to the entire M:I franchise, 2025's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Henry Czerny and Angela Bassett. Keeping continuity, my guests this week are returnees from the 2023 podcast, my blockbuster crew David Johnson, DMD and Burton Brown. Does anyone remember what happened in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1? Here's a callback to my synopsis from that podcast:Ethan Hunt and his team of Mission Impossiblers have to go rogue yet again to stop the world from yada yada yada. Same old crap megalomaniac with a weapon this time it's AI. Or something. Esai Morales is involved. I fell asleep twice so I didn't quite catch the relationship between the AI and Morales' Gabriel character. This movie seemed like more of the same old same old. But as a Tom Cruise running movie, it's a masterpiece, reaching an operatic Death in Venice level of running sophistication. So how does 2025's big follow up differ? This time Ethan Hunt and his rag tag team of crack superspies have to stop the AI Entity from blowing up the world as well as Gabriel from trying to harness its unbelievable power. Yet, instead of running extravaganza, we are treated to the biggest boldest, hands down, accept no substitutes granddaddy of all info dump and flashback movies. Is it the best, the worst or somewhere in the middle of the series?Find out! Watch the video podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/dZfi-Cr8v20

Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, "one last time."In this episode, Ashley, Matt and Aaron review the new (and final?) Mission: Impossible movie.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning seems to imply this is Tom Cruise's last hurrah in the franchise. Though never say “final”. This features old hands Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg, newer hands Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff and very old hand Rolf Saxon, last seen in the very first Mission Impossible. Here we are! Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt for his final(?) adventure with his IMF crew. Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise's latest team up - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - has now arrived in theaters, and is, of course, the second part of the Dead Reckoning saga of this franchise. As I've said before, Mission: Impossible is probably my favorite movie franchise of all-time. That answer has likely come about due to a number of my other favorite franchises diluting themselves over the last number of years, but Tom Cruise just knows how to deliver a kick-ass time at the movies. He's done so again, and again, and again, so consistently over the last decade, even outside the Mission franchise. That being said, Dead Reckoning was an interesting specimen. I loved it on first watch but that movie did not do very well at the box office, which was extra surprising considering it was riding the tremendous wave of Top Gun: Maverick's success the year prior. On successive rewatches, I myself have grown to have a number of issues with that movie but still find it to be an incredibly satisfying action movie. It's certainly still better than most other action movies you've seen in theaters since that film, largely because of Tom Cruise's endless dedication to risk his life... for our entertainment of all things. But, can Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning overcome the story shortcomings of its predecessor to close out Tom Cruise's run as Ethan Hunt with his most memorable ride yet? Find out in this SPOILER-FREE review!Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning:Directed by: Christopher McQuarrieWritten by: Christopher McQuarrie & Erik JendresenBased on the television series created by: Bruce GellerProduced by: Tom Cruise, Christopher McQuarrieExecutive Producers: David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Chris BrockMusic by: Max Aruj, Alfie GodfreyCinematography by: Fraser TaggartEdited by: Eddie HamiltonCasting by: Mindy MarinProduction Design by: Gary FreemanCostume Design by: Jill TaylorCast: Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Mariela Garriga, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Angela BassettSynopsis: Ethan Hunt and the IMF team continue their search for the terrifying AI known as the Entity — which has infiltrated intelligence networks all over the globe — with the world's governments and a mysterious ghost from Ethan's past on their trail. Joined by new allies and armed with the means to shut the Entity down for good, Hunt is in a race against time to prevent the world as we know it from changing forever.

Check out andysmanclub.co.uk if you were affected by any of the issues discussed in this interview.Friend of the show Alex James (off of Blur) came into the studio to talk about Big Feastival, which is now in its 14th year! Despite performances from Faithless, Travis, The Wombats, and many many more, Alex decided that the selling point of this year's Big Feastival was Barrioke with Sean Williamson. Hard to disagree with that… On the eve of a big premiere, Hollywood star Simon Pegg sat down with the team to discuss his role in the new Mission Impossible film, using his daughter as an excuse to talk to cool celebs, and Oasis.Yeah, thought so. “Sound Speed Action” is back with the newest episode in our countdown to Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Now we're entering Christopher McQuarrie mode with the next film: Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015).Writer and veteran Hollywood script doctor Christopher McQuarrie directs his first Mission Impossible and assembles a great team behind the camera to inject more energy into this thrill ride. Joe Kraemer delivers a pulsing orchestral score straight out of the original TV series. Eddie Hamilton joins as the wizard editor (Top Gun: Maverick, Kingsman), keeping everything moving at a fun clip.We talk about what we really enjoyed. Cruise is great, but Simon Pegg's Benji really steps up and commands his scenes. Rebecca Ferguson's debut as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust is superb—she elevates the movie with charisma and badassery. Sean Harris is fun as our super creepy villain, though it's tough to get too excited since the bar for villains hasn't been set very high. Alec Baldwin as Hunley is fantastic, and McQuarrie uses him brilliantly as a way for the franchise to poke fun at itself (“Sir, Hunt is the living manifestation of destiny—and he has made you his mission”). The Vienna Opera House sequence is a unique thrill. Some odd choices pop up—the snakeskin shirt (you'll know it when you see it), and a bad CGI car flip. But honestly, there's not much to knock.McQuarrie's been hyped up a lot on this show already, and now that we're here at his first Mission as director… what do you think? Enough action for you? We haven't even begun yet.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is available to stream now on Prime Video and Paramount Plus. It's also available to rent and buy now on all platforms. Okay, okay, we've both seen this one. But we couldn't do a zombie series without Shaun of the Dead, one of the instrumental films in the 2000s zombie boom. Does it still hold up? Come on, do we even need to answer that question? Have a nice cold pint and join us for the debut feature from Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright.
The Long Game probably isn't a fan fave and not the first one you think of from this series. Today we talk more Adam of course, Simon Pegg and there's some big Neighbours news!
We're back with a new episode of Sound Speed Action as we continue our countdown to Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Up next is what feels like an amazing reset for the series — Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011).This is where the franchise really starts to take off. The quality of action and entertainment jumps several levels in this installment. You get the brilliant work of director Brad Bird (The Iron Giant) as well as the first steps of writer Christopher McQuarrie stepping into the Mission world (be on the lookout for more from him soon…), making this an explosive (if sometimes uneven) hit of a movie! The cast brings a lot of fun: Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, raising both his action and comedy game. Simon Pegg's Benji is no longer just the computer guy behind the desk — he's out in the field as a great agent, delivering some fantastic moments. That includes hilarious scenes alongside Cruise and newcomer Jeremy Renner. On the podcast, we debate whether Renner fully fits the mold of these films — what do you think? Paula Patton as Agent Carter (not that Marvel Agent Carter) kicks ass and is a blast to watch as part of the IMF team. Even the smaller roles are memorable, including Tom Wilkinson as the IMF Secretary, Léa Seydoux as assassin Sabine Moreau, and Ving Rhames (he's in it for only 39 seconds, but listen for a great bit about what Rhames pulled off in this movie).Of course, the movie has its flaws: a pretty thin villain character (okay, maybe these movies really aren't about their villains…) and a major tonal shift once the action moves to India. But ultimately, this chapter reignites the series with a much-needed burst of energy, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling new era for the back half of the franchise. Let's go! We'll be back soon with more to share — enjoy this one, and let us know your thoughts.Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is available to stream now on Prime Video and Paramount Plus. It's also available to rent or buy on all major platforms. This is a public episode. Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review, where this week we lock, stock, and double-tap our way into the gloriously over-the-top world of Hot Fuzz (2007), the second film in Edgar Wright's beloved Cornetto Trilogy. With an outrageous body count and a razor-sharp script, it's a love letter to action movies — by way of twee English village life.Directed by Edgar Wright and written by Wright and Simon Pegg, Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg as Nicholas Angel, a no-nonsense London supercop who's so good at his job that he's making everyone else look bad. As a result, he's reassigned to the sleepy village of Sandford, where crime seems suspiciously low — and the residents suspiciously Stepford.Teamed up with the bumbling but big-hearted PC Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), Angel initially struggles with Sandford's slower pace — until a series of grisly “accidents” reveals something darker lurking beneath the surface. Cue a rampage of pensioners, hidden agendas, and a spectacular finale with more gunfire than the M25 at rush hour. This is one we could all agree on: Hot Fuzz is a near-perfect comedy that rewards repeat viewings. It's cleverly constructed, endlessly quotable (“The greater good!”), and absolutely packed with details that make it a joy to dissect. Whether you're a fan of action movies, British humour, or seeing Timothy Dalton with a smug smile and a hedge trimmer, there's something here for you.Hot Fuzz takes the quiet menace of rural England and sets it ablaze with blockbuster spectacle and sharp comedy. It's both homage and original, firing on all cylinders from start to finish. If you like your action with a side of Bakewell tart and local shop for local people energy, this one's a must-watch.
For this episode of Sound Speed Action, we're continuing our countdown to Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. We're joined by returning guest and friend of the pod, Chris Cheng, to break down the franchise's third installment — Mission Impossible III (2006).It's a movie of firsts: JJ Abrams (of Lost and Alias fame) makes his feature film directorial debut, Simon Pegg arrives as tech whiz Benji, and it's the only Mission film ever co-produced with China. Oh — and it dropped right in the middle of the Tom Cruise Turbulence Era: the Oprah couch jump, the Matt Lauer meltdown, the Paramount fallout, and an infamous episode of South Park. Our conversation starts with the highs, but quickly uncovers some shared frustrations:* Abrams overindulging in his signature moves (lens flares, violin overload, blown-out colors, endless close-ups)* Wasting powerhouse talents like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Michelle Monaghan* Failing to make the part of the movie that is in China a meaningful, fun, colorful, vibrant part and character of the story* Skipping the iconic “light the fuse” title sequence* A very long rooftop scene of “I need you to trust me” (you'll know it when you see it)* The fulcrum scene that really tests your ability to suspend your disbeliefStill, the movie isn't without its charms:* The mystery box tool of “the rabbits foot” here is mysterious and fun* New characters played by Keri Russell, Maggie Q, Billy Crudup, and Laurence Fishburne* Set piece standouts like the Vatican heist and Davian's bridge escape* Philip Seymour Hoffman channeling straight menace in one of the creepiest villain performances of the series (but we have some issues with this too…)This entry in the franchise is a very divisive one. It marks the halfway point for us in this franchise countdown. But get ready and hold onto your butts because this latter half of the franchise consistently kicks things up a few gears. Back with more soon!Mission Impossible III is streaming now on Prime Video and Paramount+. It's also available to rent or buy on all major platforms. This is a public episode.
