In Episode 62, Something In The Water Podcast cohosts Sean Clark and Uncle Dave Griffin welcome Mr. Darowyn Lee, Sr., longtime piano player, songwriter, and front man of local bands in and around South Georgia. Born in 1941 and raised just outside of Waycross in Bickley, Georgia, Darowyn began playing the piano at the age of 13. In '58, he formed his first band, The Rebel Rousers, playing the music of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Fats Domino, at University of Georgia frat parties. Throughout the 60s and 70s, he played just about every dive bar covering Georgia and Florida, including Waycross's Howard's Peppermint Lounge, Hub's, Steve's Pine Room, and The Bombardier, and once backed a young lady by the name of Loretta Lynn onstage at the Waycross City Auditorium. He played country music in Darowyn Lee and The Southern Keys and gospel music in The Waymakers, giving young musicians like William Fales, Roger Douglas, David ‘Buck' Buchanan, Rocky Mixon, and Roger Prevatt a place in his band and the opportunity to showcase their talents. In our musical segment, Darowyn plays “Shadows Of Your Love”, an original song written by Roger and Linda Douglas and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, along with a snippet of Merle Haggard's “Jesus, Take A Hold”. Honored by the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame in 2021, Darowyn Lee can still be found performing live at Joedy's Seafood in Alma, Georgia, in area churches and nursing homes, and on YouTube.https://somethinginthewaterpodcast.comhttps://www.patreon.com/somethinginth...https://www.facebook.comcautionlightm...https://www.instagram.com/somethingin...https://www.facebook.com/somethingint...somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.comhttps://somethinginthewater.captivate.fm

In this episode of PEP Talks: Podcast on Educational Possibilities, host Olivia Haas, Director of Strategic Communications & Media at NCGS, takes a look at how integrity, respect, and social and cultural awareness impact a girl's sense of social justice. Olivia is joined, in Part 1, by featured guests and girls' school educators, Linda Douglas, Principal at Ruyton Girls' School, which is located in a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, and Nancy Richards, Head of St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School in Oakville, Canada, about 30 minutes outside of Toronto. Andrew Johnston, RDH: I am a Registered Dental Hygiene graduate from the Yakima Valley Community College Dental Hygiene Program in 2009. I hold three degrees including a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and currently working towards my MBA. First and foremost, I am a husband and a father to my wife and three children. When I have time to get away, I regularly lecturer at dental hygiene programs throughout the USA. I also speak at dental hygiene societies and associations. In 2013, I was asked to be a faculty member for DDS - Dental Development Seminars. My role includes mentoring and instructing dental professionals in technique driven delivery of local anesthetic. As the only hygienist on the faculty, I focus on being a liason between the dentists and hygienists to build trust and understanding between the two groups by helping ensure competency, accuracy, and confidence in the hygienist attendees.   I also write, blog, and am a regular contributor on Hygienetown.com. I write articles for a number of publishings including my own blog http://andrewjohnstonrdh.blogspot.com. I am a regular panel member for Mark Frias' roundtable discussions and have been interviewed by Dr. Howard Farran for his Dentaltown podcast. In the future, I hope to be lecturing at regional and national conferences on my local anesthesia review course. My "Charitable Dentistry" lecture is a compilation of many years of mission trips and charity work throughout the world. I have volunteered my time and efforts with local programs such as the Union Gospel Mission's dental office, YVCC sealant days, the Boy Scouts of America, and as a coach for the local parks and rec teams. Nationally, I have consulted for dental teams and offices interested in learning how to participate in charitable ventures. I provide research that is specific to the desires of the team at no charge to them. Internationally, I have been on mission trips in the Philippines, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.   Linda Douglas, RDH: Linda M Douglas graduated as a dental hygienist from the Royal Dental Hospital in London, England in 1982. After graduation she worked in periodontology before moving to Toronto, Canada where she has worked in private practice since 1990. Her desire to support patients with eating disorders has instigated in-depth study of eating disorders, and its effect on oral health.   Daniel Lopez, RDH: Daniel Lopez is a dental hygienist currently working at the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in New York.  He has extensive training in the management and treatment of HIV/AIDs patients.

• Enhancing patient care through increased interdisciplinary collaboration between all medical and dental healthcare professionals. • Education of the dental hygienist • The future roles of the dental hygienist; how is dental hygiene practice likely to change? • What I like about Dentaltown and Hygienetown. • How Dentaltown and Hygienetown has sparked my professional growth. • How my curious nature, and love of writing has enhanced my career • Overcoming shyness, and fear of public speaking, (which was holding me back professionally). • Rethinking views on retirement-when I was young, most women I knew retired at 60; as this draws nearer, I realise am enjoying my profession too much to think of retirement.       I am from London, England where I was an OR technician initially, then I decided I like patients better when they are conscious, so I switched to the dental field. Since graduation from hygiene school, I worked for 8 years in periodontology, public health and general practice before moving to Canada in 1990, where I have worked in general practice. I also worked for our regulatory body, the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario as a quality assurance assessor for 4 years. I started writing articles in 2009, and began teaching continuing education in 2013. I also completed my Bachelor's degree in Oral health promotion with O'Hehir University in 2013.         lindadouglas@sympatico.ca

How to get support in regaining independence and the physical and mental health benefits of social exercise. This edition has been funded by a grant from the Moffat Charitable Trust. How can people left disabled and housebound by chronic pain be supported to live independently? Producer Paul Evans visits two Edinburgh-based organisations with different approaches to transforming the lives of people in pain. The Lothian Centre for Inclusive Living (LCIL) is run by disabled people for disabled people with the aim, as its name suggests, of helping people to live full lives despite their condition. A key part of their service is supporting people as they apply for the benefits to which they are entitled in an often confusing and frustrating system. Jacqueline Todd recalls her struggle to be recognised as eligible for the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and the freedom she has gained from adaptations to her home. At the Thistle Foundation Paul speaks to members and staff about how their exercise and lifestyle classes bring people ‘out of the darkness’ of social isolation and pain. John Cunningham found the ‘supremely fit’ people at his local gym intimidating, but the welcoming and supportive environment has ‘changed [his] life dramatically’. Course leader Linda Douglas talks about the importance of finding a ‘safe space’ where people can focus on their strengths and find out what works for them. You can find out more about the organisations featured in this programme at: www.lothiancil.org.uk Contributors: * Kirsty Henderson, Information and Communications Officer, LCIL * Jacqueline Todd, service user and volunteer, LCIL * Linda Douglas, lifestyle management course leader, Thistle Foundation * John Cunningham, member, Thistle Foundation * Margaret Hendry, volunteer and member, Thistle Foundation First broadcast 29.07.14 #Fibromyalgia #Benefits #Exercise #Occupationaltherapy #Pacing #Peersupport
