This episode is a special interview where Alan is the guest! He's interviewed by his long-time friend and podcasting colleague, Andrew Johnston, the host of A Tale of Two Hygienists, as Andrew wraps up his run on that show. The conversation is a blend of dentistry, business, and the endurance of creative work. Dr. Mead shares his experience attending a Bioclear course and the challenge of changing established habits in dental practice. The core of the discussion centers on the evolution and future of dental podcasting, including the shift from audio-only to video/social content, and the role of AI in show production. They also dive into deeper topics about the future of the dental profession, the pressures of student debt on new dentists, the importance of longevity and permanence in practice, and the struggle to find social fulfillment outside of one's career. Episode Summary In this episode, Andrew Johnston welcomes long-time friend and hygiene industry leader Sarah Thiel back to the show. The episode also explores hot topics in dental CE—including oral pathology, vaping, local anesthesia, substance abuse, and perio trends—plus stories from the frontlines of regulatory changes and audits. Key Topics Discussed The Evolution of CE Zoom: Sarah Thiel shares how CE Zoom went from a simple CE tracker to a comprehensive platform serving every dental license type and, now, other industries requiring CE. Navigating Audits & Regulations: Hear how CE requirements are more complex than most professionals realize, and why real-time tracking and board-specific courses matter. Networking & Relationship Building: Sarah Thiel talks about the authentic approach to networking—why helping others comes first, and how most of her professional connections (and successful matchmaking) happen in relaxed, informal settings. Hot Topics in CE: The episode spotlights recent and perennial favorite courses among dental professionals—oral pathology, vaping, local anesthesia updates, substance abuse, perio, and instrumentation. Behind the Scenes Managing Compliance: The intricate process of following every dental board's changes—thanks to Sarah's team, especially Melissa, who attends and reviews every board meeting to keep users ahead of the curve. Stories from the Field: Listen for a cautionary tale about regulatory changes and how CE Zoom went to bat for a clinician caught in a timing loophole—highlighting why trusting experts matters. Memorable Quotes "You don't know what you don't know... until you're audited and realize the rules have changed." – Sarah Thiel "Sarah's made that crossover from dental friend to real-life friend." – Andrew Johnston "I just love meeting people and figuring out ways to help them—business comes after." – Sarah Thiel "The dental boards don't care if you almost met the requirements—you have to get it exactly right." – Sarah Thiel Resources & Links CE Zoom: cezoom.com Contact Sarah & the Team: Email help@cezoom.com for questions or support. Albeit older statistics (from 2012) state that 91% of adults have had tooth decay and more recent statistics show almost half of adults over 30 years old have periodontal disease. At the same time in 2019 we had 87% of children see the dentist and 65% of adults went to the dentist. If people are going to the dentist, why do we still have crazy high disease rates? Lets discuss!

It's a bit of a friction point when an office asks the dental hygiene team to help fill the schedule by calling patients. We literally have positions in the office whose main task is answering and placing calls to patients. Additionally, there is an unbalance between the hygiene and restorative department - the restorative department is almost never asked to make calls to patients for appointments. Be that as it may, this TIPisode gives some points to ponder about why it might be a GREAT idea for RDHs to pick up the phone and make some calls, give it a listen!

Explore becoming Superhuman here: https://superhumanrevenue.beehiiv.com/ KEY TAKEAWAYS AI agents and chatbots are limited in their effectiveness unless they are built with seamless integration and have their own unique value as part of the chain within AI. Successful AI tools have integrated in a smart way, with 75% of their own built IP or workflow and 25% leveraging LLMs or fine-tuned data. Security is a huge concern in the AI space, and tools like Liminal AI are addressing this by enabling secure use of LLMs within highly regulated institutions. RevOps teams can benefit from AI tools like Cinch, which enable sales leaders to build dashboards, reports, and alerts using natural language and prompting. AI research tools like Agent Herbie bring resources directly to the user's email, making market analysis more accessible for sales reps and marketers. Microsoft is going deep on AI integration across their entire stack, including a proactive team copilot and AI capabilities built into PCs. When investing in AI companies, distribution and go-to-market strategy are key differentiators, along with good UI/UX design and core software fundamentals. The simplest AI use cases that save 10-30 minutes of time and deliver clear outcomes are often the most powerful and effective tools for CEOs and CROs. BEST MOMENTS "What I try to look for is for companies that have integrated in a smart way, but have built a unique IP or workflow so that it's more like 75 per cent of what they've built." "I think what's important is two things. One is. If you're going to invest in a tool or you're going to find a tool that you use, like, does it get you to an outcome or is it just a chatbot?" "Distribution is key. You know, who's your market, who you're going after, why is the product sticky? I think that's really, really important to think through." Join 2,500+ readers getting weekly practical guidance to scale themselves and their companies using Artificial Intelligence and Revenue Cheat Codes. Explore becoming Superhuman here: https://superhumanrevenue.beehiiv.com/ KEY TAKEAWAYS Superhuman, designed as the fastest email experience, saves users around 4 hours per week and helps them respond 12 hours faster, offering a glimpse into how email would look if designed in 2024. Superhuman's B2C growth leverages PLG levers, while B2B uses a product-led sales motion, targeting power users within corporations to expand team adoption. Transitioning from B2C to B2B requires adapting messaging, targeting different buyers, and meeting higher ROI expectations as the company moves upmarket. Quantifying ROI involves comparing pre and post-adoption metrics, such as time savings, email volume, and response speed, to demonstrate productivity gains. AI enhancement, like writing emails in the user's voice, complements the core value proposition, with 15-25% user adoption of AI features. Connecting productivity metrics to business outcomes, such as increased sales rep capacity and outbound activity, is crucial for resonating with decision-makers. BEST MOMENTS "Point blank Superhuman is the fastest email experience, or designed to be the fastest email experience in the world." "The way I like to think about it is if Gmail or Outlook were designed in 2024 versus 2005, how would that product look and what, what things would it have natively built in? And that is superhuman." "Bar none, I think the first thing is getting the tool right, right? So it has to provide value, productivity gains, and efficiency gains as it stands. And then AI is the enhancement on top of that." "We're trying to correlate the metrics that matter to that sales leader with the things that we know are true and what we can provide based on the outputs that the tool has seen."
