This week Paris & Kelly Michelle talk about the costumes in the movie Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion(1985) and the costume designer Mona May. Music is Ice Cream With You by Loyalty Freak
This week, we're talking two movies looking at long-term friendship: The Climb (2020) and Romi and Michelle's High School Reunion (1997). It's good!
In our second and final female-female buddy duo of the season, we discuss the 1997 comedy "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion."
Ya know those movies that you watched a million times on cable tv as a teen? Well this is one of those, for Arron and Zacary. It had colorful fashions, a dry, sardonic wit, and was led by two fierce, funny blondes! Of course we're talking about, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion! It starred 90s comedy icon, Lisa Kudrow, and Academy award winner- Mira Sorvino, in the titular roles! It features a million quotable lines, future stars (Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming), and an iconic dance number, set to Cyndi Lauper's hit, Time After Time. You all know the scene... Join your two gays, as they reminisce on what this movie meant to them as baby gays, discuss all their favorite characters/scenes, and act out some iconic moments in the segment: "TWO GAYS ACTING!" And as always, they will measure the film on their highly scientific, and (probably) accurate, "GAY-0-METER"! Where they rate the film on a scale of 1 to 10! 1, being the most straight, and 10 being the most gay! So slip into some Madonna prom couture, and join the fun! "Have a Romy and Michelle day!"
In today's episode the gals review Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. Does it stand the test of time? Listen to find out. Our next watch along film will be Clueless keep an eye on the socials for date and time. Hoping you are all getting through this madness the best you can. We talked to award winning Costume Designer Mona May at her eclectic and inviting home and studio in Silver Lake, CA. May’s breakout looks from the movie Clueless changed how women and girls dressed both in the 1990's and today. Many of the world's most important fashion designers have drawn inspiration from May's work in the film. She also designed the costumes for era-defining films such as Never Been Kissed, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, The House Bunny, and The Wedding Singer, Enchanted, and more. This is an intimate look into what's behind fashion in film and the magic of costume design. Mona discusses her craft, the many hats she has to wear on each production, and she dishes about how being a costume designer is not unlike being a therapist. We talk about how she defines style, and learn valuable tips from a master about how to dress for your body type. She shares the lessons she's learned along the way during her illustrious career: lessons about believing in yourself, learning to trust your instincts, and where to find inspiration. From shooting in Bulgaria in the middle of winter and Mumbai in the summer, Mona takes us on an insider's journey into her very colorful world.
