Pamela Anderson starring films. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss The Last Showgirl (2024) and Barb Wire (1996). We begin by discussing Barb Wire and showering it with praise (excuse the pun). We celebrate the 90s-ness of the film. We talk about all the homages and connections we noticed in Barb Wire, including Casablanca (1942), Batman Forever (1995), Alien 3 (1992), Mad Max (1979), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Candyman (1992), Strange Days (1995), and Total Recall (1990). We praise the cast, including Xander Berkeley, Udo Kier and Temuera Morrison. We discuss the production values of Barb Wire, including the visual effects, action, cinematography and other production values. Our conversation explores the criticism of Barb Wire and how the tastes of audiences shifted over the 90s, making connections to Waterworld (1995), Cutthroat Island (1995), Hook (1991) and Charlie's Angels (2000). We move our discussion to The Last Showgirl, directed by Gia Coppola. We talk about the strength of the performances from Pamela Anderson, Brenda Song, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd and Jamie Lee Curtis. We unpack the script, the tone, the direction and the ultimate aim of the film, with differing reactions from Sarah, William and Jeremy.
Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast, the show where we tackle cinema's biggest box office failures and decide if they deserve a second chance. This week, Brad and Troy dive into one of the biggest box office flops of 1996, Barb Wire. In the '90s, Pamela Anderson was riding high on her success with Baywatch and grabbing headlines due to her high-profile marriage to Tommy Lee. She also took on a role in a film based on a Dark Horse Comics character, which ended up being an unofficial remake of Casablanca. The experiment didn't go over well. Critics slammed the movie, and audiences stayed away from Pamela's action-packed, face-kicking, gun-slinging performance. But is the film really as bad as the critics say? Does Barbara "Barb Wire" Kopetski deserve a second chance with today's audiences? Download the latest episode and find out!Special thanks to Jose from Watch Skip Plus for joing the conversation. As usual, Jose brings his unique take on this box office bomb. Barb Wire is directed by David Hogan and stars Pamela Anderson Lee, Temuera Morrison, Victoria Rowell, Jack Noseworthy, Xander Berkeley, Udo Kier, and Steve RailsbackNot A Bomb has has plenty of spooky designs in our Merch store! Xander Berkeley is arguably one of the hardest working actors in the industry. He is starring in the new film No Address which hits theaters on February 28th. A film that deals with the subject of homelessness; 50% of all the ticket sales will go to charities that assist people in need. While we had Xander with us to discuss this movie and the continuing issues of those who find themselves with no where to go, we also had to discuss something a little more mind numbing and we found that in the form of 1997's Air Force One. Enjoy Xander's many impressions and his story of Harrison Ford accidently breaking his nose during the filming of Air Force One. If you still need tickets to see No Address upon its release, click the link here to purchase and support those in need.

In a very special episode of the Lodgecast, we cover the new epic political biopic Reagan (2024)! For this hotly anticipated film, we took a little Lodgecast field trip to do some research. You'll hear all about it in this episode. In the movie Reagan (2024), Dennis Quaid stars as President Ronald Reagan alongside Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan. The rest of the cast is stacked, including Jon Voight, C. Thomas Howell, Kevin Dillon, Mena Suvari, Robert Davi, Xander Berkeley, Pat Boone, Kevin Sorbo, and most importantly, Creed's Scott Stapp as Frank Sinatra. The film was directed by Sean McNamara who has quite the filmography. It's an epic Lodgecast about an epic movie covering an epic President. This is Reagan!
When people make a list of iconic American presidents, the subject of this week's movie is on most of them. Dennis Quaid plays our 40th American president, Ronald Reagan, in the long-coming movie “Reagan.” This movie doesn't just tell the tale of the presidential years of Reagan. It spans his life from when he was a young boy up until his death. We see his humble beginnings in Iowa to him realizing he needs to stand up to bullies, including the Soviet Union. Even as far back as when he was simply known as an actor, he saw the Soviet Union attempting, and succeeding, to infiltrate many institutions in America, including Hollywood. He knew they were trying to turn America into another Soviet Union and he fought it. Later we see him meet the love of his life Nancy and it's made apparent that she stands behind him in everything he does. Of course, the movie features the Reagan most people over a certain age know. The California governor and our president. Does this movie do this American icon justice? Check out this episode to find out. “Reagan” also stars Penelope Ann Miller, Mena Suvari, C. Thomas Howell, Amanda Righetti, Jon Voight, Justin Chatwin, Kevin Dillon, Kevin Sorbo, Xander Berkeley, Lesley-Anne Down and Robert Davi. There is a homelessness crisis in the United States. And yes, we have a conversation around the context of the U.S. currently, but there are a lot of helpful points that will help in different contexts around the world. In this episode, Robert Marbut provides helpful context about homelessness in the United States, discusses the underlying issues that often lead to homelessness like untreated mental illness and substance abuse. He emphasizes the importance of a holistic, trauma-informed approach that addresses these root causes through treatment and not just giving out housing vouchers. Collaboration between different organizations like churches, non-profits, and the government was highlighted as key. Practical steps communities can take include prevention programs, transitional housing with wraparound services, and bringing all stakeholders together with a shared vision of helping people recover and rejoin the community. So join us as we tackle the homelessness crisis. Dr. Robert G. Marbut Jr. has worked on issues of homelessness for more than three decades, including being the Founding President and CEO of Haven for Hope and serving as the White House's “Federal Homelessness Czar.” Dr. Marbut has consulted on issues of homelessness with more communities and organizations than anyone else in the United States and has also worked in three different US Presidential Administrations. He is an Executive Producer of both the No Address movie, starring Ashanti, Billy Baldwin, Xander Berkeley, and Beverly D'Angelo, as well as the Americans with No Address documentary. “Once again, it's Clint Eastwood as a cop, so he is costing everyone millions of dollars.” - Chris On this week's We Hate Movies, our dumbest theme month yet, SHEENPRIL continues with a wild conversation on the totally outrageous Clint Eastwood movie, The Rookie! How hilariously inept is Raul Julia's car thief mastermind? How incredible is the opening car carrier chase sequence? How great is this cast full of real-deal character actors? Did Sheen's character really need to drive that motorcycle through the door? Couldn't we get a little more Tom Skerritt and a lot more Lara Flynn Boyle? And what are the odds this movie was a re-worked “one last case” Dirty Harry film? The Rookie stars Clint Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Raul Julia, Sonia Braga, Lara Flynn Boyle, Pepe Serna, Marco Rodríguez, Xander Berkeley, Tony Plana, Paul Ben-Victor, and Tom Skerritt as Eugene Ackerman; directed by Clint Eastwood.

For the last episode of 2023, Madeline, Julian and Emilio continue exploring the theme of "Perceptions of Sanity" with an episode category called "Mise-Unseen", where they discuss a movie they've all just now seen for the first time. That movie is Todd Haynes' 1995 release 'Safe', a film as devoid of holiday cheer as it is of clear-cut interpretations, but a fascinating film to watch now, or any time for that matter. How present or convincing is the feminist messaging? Is Greg the husband unlikeable and selfish, aloof, or a character we are meant to sympathize with? What is Carol's ultimate fate? The trio deep dives into several of the directions that this movie allows you to go. Thanks so much for finding us this year! For this month's second throwback podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte and Dan Bayer to discuss Todd Haynes' first collaboration with Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore, "Safe" (1995), also starring Peter Friedman, Xander Berkeley, Susan Norman, Kate McGregor-Stewart & James LeGros. Steeped in ambiguity with many interpretations, the film has inspired a tremendous amount of discussion over the years and has endured as one of the best films of the '90s despite its modest release, which saw it gain very little awards recognition or box office success. What do we think of it nearly thirty years later as we get ready for Haynes' latest film with Moore, "May December?" Tune in as we discuss Moore's performances, the film's themes, the cinematography, the score, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy! Candyman is a 1992 American gothic supernatural horror film, written and directed by Bernard Rose and starring Virginia Madsen, Tony Todd, Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons, and Vanessa E. Williams. Based on Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden", the film follows a Chicago graduate student completing a thesis on urban legends and folklore, which leads her to the legend of the "Candyman", the ghost of an African-American artist and the son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century for his relationship with the daughter of a wealthy white man. Skeptical graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) befriends Anne-Marie McCoy (Vanessa Williams) while researching superstitions in a housing project on Chicago's Near North Side. From Anne-Marie, Helen learns about the Candyman (Tony Todd), a knife-wielding figure of urban legend that some of her neighbors believe to be responsible for a recent murder. After a mysterious man matching the Candyman's description begins stalking her, Helen comes to fear that the legend may be all too real. There's a very good chance we wouldn't have had this long a conversation if we were covering the actual Casablanca. Instead, we're covering a riff on Casablanca that landed terribly with most critics. Was it a reaction to its star, Pamela Anderson? A reaction to its silly, hypersexual tone? A reaction to how it predicted things going to hell in 2017? More importantly though, this is where you find out if we really liked the movie. Writer and actor Jon Millstein joins to discuss the 1995 psychological drama SAFE starring Julianne Moore, Peter Friedman, and Xander Berkeley. Written and directed by Todd Haynes, SAFE is the disturbing story of a suburban housewife in the 1987 San Fernando Valley who develops a sudden and inexplicable illness related to her environment. The film plays coy as to the causes of the lead character's illness, (is she suffering from an allergic reaction to her increasingly toxic urban lifestyle, a psychosomatic affluenza, or both?), and the mystery has only inspired more reexaminations of this chilly film over time. In a decade-capping Village Voice critics poll, SAFE was selected as the best film of the 1990s, and received a renewed interest with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Listen as MNAM fully diagnoses this film, along with some less toxic diversions into Mrs. Doubtfire, The O.C., Rick Steves, skateboarding, alternate birthday songs, quiet quitting, Dave Barry, and much, much more!

It's time to get your bomb on as we get into the episode you've been waiting for from season 2 of 24, episode 15 10pm-11pm. What is the point of N.E.S.T? Are they as pointless as this show you're listening to? Is this episode too epic for us to even need to bag them out? Why is Kim sticking her thumb up just so obnoxious? Are we excited to talk about Dean Norris? Are we excited to hear about the Cyprus recording for the first time? Why are we talking about Avril Lavigne having a disease? How incredible is the acting between Xander Berkeley and Kiefer Sutherland? And how epic is the ending of this episode and how well does it hold up nearly 20 years later?
