New episode out now! We watched an episode from the second season of Psych, titled “Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion”. We love how fun and quippy the show is, utilizing the familiar hyper-observant-detective trope in a new-ish way. We dig into the character relationships, discussing the balance and strength of Shawn and Gus' friendship as well as the father-son relationship of Shawn and Henry and how it evolves—although we do also believe everyone in the show needs therapy. We love Psych's early adoption of meta references, enjoy the consistent bits, wonder how Gus has time for his hobbies, and really appreciate the multiple homage episodes and their casting of ‘80s and ‘90s cult film guest stars. Katy is on crab TikTok, Carrie shares an excellent grilled cheese-based metaphor, Maddy would love an arcade birthday, and Mack tells a wild misheard lyrics story. We also do a collective Doofenshmirtz impression, decide who the least problematic Beatle is, appreciate Shawn's relationship advice, and list shows that were filmed in Vancouver. Listen to hear more about ephemeral fame, New Zealand accents, sexualized restaurant names, and ‘80s music. Enjoy! (You hear about Pluto? That's messed up.)TW: police, eating disordersShow Notes/References:Psych WikiPsych Pineapple websiteList of Pineapple AppearancesKaty meant Lesley Ann Warren, not Lesley Ann Howard

On this episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with filmmaker, Accidental Talmudist and longtime “Jewish Journal” contributor Salvador Litvak. Litvak's Passover classic, “When Do We Eat?” stars Max Greenfield, Ben Feldman, Shiri Appleby, Lesley Ann Warren, Michael Lerner, and Jack Klugman. Litvak directed the film that he co-wrote with his wife and partner, Nina Davidovich Litvak. The Litvaks' second movie was “Saving Lincoln.” Their new film “Guns & Moses” is out this summer. “The perennial fifth question of the Passover Seder is, ‘When do we eat?'” Litvak, who is also the author of “Let My People Laugh: Greatest Jewish Jokes of All Time,” says. “There's all these holiday movies… but there was no Passover movie.” When the Litvaks made “When Do We Eat?” they were connected to Judaism, but not yet Orthodox. “The movie's probably a little bit edgier than we would make it today,” Litvak says. “One of the main plot points is that one of the kids doses his dad with a strong hallucinogen at the Passover seder, but also the movie contains wonderful spiritual teachings.” He adds, “[Our dream: that] it would become the Jewish, ‘It's a Wonderful Life,' the movie that people watch every year.” Salvador Litvak shares the backstories behind “When Do We Eat?” and his new Jewish joke book. the connections between Judaism and food, and his recipe for Sal-mon. He also talks about creating The Accidental Talmudist, how that community embraced his Passover classic film aka “My Big Fat Jewish Seder.” “My mom always used to say there's two kinds of people: those who get into conversations in the checkout line at the supermarket and those who don't,” Litvak says. “We are [the first] kind.” Learn more at SalvadorLitvak.com, AccidentalTalmudist.org, and GunsandMosesMovie.com. Hollywood legend Lesley Ann Warren returns to "Up Next" to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella".
Wilson (Terrance Stamp) is a career criminal from the UK who is now coming to Los Angeles to find out about what happened to his daughter (Melissa George) who just tragically died in a car accident....or did she? Her father suspects that she might have been murdered and he suspects that it might have been her wealthy, older record executive boyfriend Terry played by the late, great Peter Fonda. Along the way, Wilson recruits help from two local actors (Lesley Ann Warren, Luis Guzman) who were friends with his daughter and what results is a stylish, somewhat time-bending revenge thriller which received significant acclaim when it was first released twenty five years ago. Directed by Oscar-winning legend Steven Soderbergh at the peak of his powers (right between Out of Sight and Erin Brockovich), just tell them that WILSON IS COMING!!!!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Welcome to another edition of "THE MOST LITERAL FILM TITLE EVER"! Yeah, it is really that literal. It happens one night in a bar called "Heaven". Watching this film, you'd think every chain bar/restaurant opens its doors to male strippers every weeknight but in Florida, that seems to be the case. You'd never believe that the guy who made ROCKY 5 made this honestly... Oh, and THE KARATE KID. And THE KARATE KID PART II. Oh, and ROCKY, can't forget that one. Yeah, strap in, it's one weird and wild ride for all you John G. Avildsen fans.
Tune in as Shawn Murphy (Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies Podcast) rejoins the program to review and recap Color of Night, the 1994 erotic thriller that takes us on a wild and atmospheric ride with a color-blind psychiatrist who gets himself caught up in a murder mystery and a steamy affair simultaneously. An intense BTS feud that led to different cuts of this movie being released, drawing inspiration from giallo, the therapy group in the plot acting like a dysfunctional family, and 90s-era queer representation that's both progressive for its time and dated for our contemporary world comprise just a few of the subjects that get coverage in today's episode. Directed by Richard Rush, Color of Night stars Bruce Willis, Jane March, Rubén Blades, Lesley Ann Warren, Scott Bakula, Brad Dourif, Lance Henrikson, Kevin J. It was another big week for a franchise this weekend as “Alien: Romulus” premiered and took the top spot at the box office. While the film came nowhere near “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the film topped $40 million domestic, a respectable number for an R-rated movie. Co-hosts Bruce Miller and Terry Lipshetz both saw the film and shared their thoughts on where the film fits with the others in the franchise that began back in 1979 with “Alien.” Another horror movie is about to drop, this time on Netflix. The Deliverance, directed by Lee Daniels, got a limited release in theaters and will drop on the streaming service on Aug. 30. The film stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Mo'Nique, and is inspired by a true story. PBS continues to produce programs highlighting the geniuses of Hollywood, and the next is “Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames” that premieres Aug. 27. We have an interview with Lesley Ann Warren, who talks about her experience with Edwards. Finally, if you watched “Tiger King” — and who didn’t watch it? — then you’ll want to catch the latest documentary from Eric Goode, “Chimp Crazy” on HBO and Max. The four episodes that began dropping weekly on Aug. 18 look at the people raising chimpanzees in captivity, and the efforts by PETA to stop them. Contact us! We want to hear from you! Email questions to podcasts@lee.net and we'll answer your question on a future episode! About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is now the editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dennis connects via Zoom with Jeffery Bowman who is the founder and co-host of Legendary Bingo, a West Hollywood staple since 1998. Jeffery talks about the event's humble beginnings, how he enlisted the queen Belle Aire early on as his first drag co-host and how the event has raised over $9 million to date for countless local charities. He dishes about all the celebrities that have appeared at Bingo over the years including Molly Shannon, Ed Asner, Paula Abdul, Richard Simmons, Seth Rogan, Lesley Ann Warren and his first-ever celebrity guest Jean Smart. He also talks about his more recent creative endeavor; writing, recording and releasing songs on Spotify under the name Jeffery Leonard Bowman. His song "No Shelter," about his own experience with rescue animals, is connecting with other animal lovers all over the world and Jeffery couldn't be more thrilled about it. Other topics include: how both Jeffery and Dennis have worked with and been delightfully scandalized by drag legend Willam at Bingo and The MisMatch Game respectively, how great it feels when someone compliments him on his music, the corporate gigs that make it so he's able to make his living from Bingo, why it's never not a pain in the ass when a reality show wants to shoot at Bingo, co-starring with Ron Jeremy in the movie Orgasmo, why people love the game of Bingo generally, finding great collaborators on Craig's List and his favorite celebrity guest caller ever. When we think of "out of town" tryouts we think of Boston, New Haven, Philadelphia, Detroit, Tokyo….. Yes, Tokyo! In the 1970s Tokyo had become the center of Japanese culture and it was giving its citizens home grown movies, literature, plays, and paintings but it had not given its public a musical that was cultivated in Japan. So what better option than an hour adaptation of Gone With The Wind? Welcome back to your favorite podcast about some of the biggest cinema bombs of all time. In this episode, we welcome back to the show Mike McGranaghan, film critic at The Aisle Seat. Put on your detective hats and rush to the crime scene. What was the crime? In this case, an experimental film from 1985, Clue. Based on the popular board game, Clue gathers all our favorite playing pieces into a mansion and, of course, a murder occurs. The filmmakers pulled a “William Castle” on the audience and came up with an interesting gimmick, three different endings to a movie (and each ending was shown in a different location). Join us as we try to figure out who did it, with what, and in what room. Oh…and we do spend a little time discussing some of the greatest film gimmicks in cinematic history. Clue is directed by Jonathan Lynn and stars Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren. Mike McGranaghan, is a member of the Critics Choice Association and the Online Film Critics Society. His reviews appear weekly on the radio stations of Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation. His work also regularly appears at Ranker. He is the author of two books, Straight-Up Blatant and My Year of Chevy: One Guy's Journey Through the Filmography of Chevy Chase. Les, Kurt, and Jason were so energized by Don Johnson's Heartbeat in the previous episode (the promotional movie moreso than his actual pulse), so they're tackling some more music videos this week. But first, THE Pepper MaShay came to see Les's show, as did Lesley Ann Warren and Lifetime of Hallmark SUPERFAN Samantha (thanks for listening). Then Kurt shares what may be newly specific news about Blac Chyna as it relates to sobriety. Fun fact: Les is kinda dickmatized by Dick van Dyke (a conversation started after a June Squibb spotting). Then it's time to get into 3 different defining (?) music videos of the 80's, starting with Journey's “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” The Sherrie of Steve Perry's “Oh Sherry” almost killed this video, but she doesn't have to because it dies on its own (though without a soundtrack since the instruments keep disappearing). Then, the guys took a look at Slade's “Run Runaway” video, complete with a kilt-wearing dude swinging a giant phallic telephone pole all around a well lit castle while lead singer Noddy Holder is doing… something… with his mouth (Jason has a theory). Finally, Les subjects Jason and Kurt to the Pia Zadora and Jermaine Jackson classic (at least in Europe) “When the Rain Begins to Fall” from Pia's movie Voyage of the Rock Aliens. At least there's a vespa chase and some proximity to peak Michael Jackson. Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com
Me and you, just us two. Yes, that's what Carrie had engraved in a vintage Rolex for Big but also, it's just us two because we stand with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. This month we are pulling the spirits of Celeste Holm, Bob Villa, and Steve Urkel from the annals of pop culture. We are also absolutely head over heels for the reignited rumors that Mel B and Geri of the Spice Girls possibly (and probably) carried on a lesbian relationship in the ‘90s. That, plus we take a look at Barbra Streisand's duets album, Fran Lebowitz's WNBA fandom, and start prepping for a Norma Rae screening! Join us! New York-based film writer Jason Miller joins to discuss the strange, beautiful cinematic worlds of the unsung Alan Rudolph and his 1992 film 'Equinox' starring Matthew Modine as identical twin brothers separated at birth. We begin with a discussion of Rudolph's career, beginning as an assistant director to the great Robert Altman before branching out and producing some of the most compellingly idiosyncratic films of the 1980s (as well as his feature 'Remember My Name' from 1978, arguably his greatest work). Then we turn our sights to 'Equinox' and talk about the film's distinctive rhythms and characters as well as the ways Rudolph imbues his fantasy world with a potent naturalism and sense of place. Finally, we discuss the injustice of Rudolph's relative obscurity within cinephile circles, and why the filmmaker's entire body of work is due for a necessary and urgent reappraisal. We're committed to getting 'Equinox' in front of as many eyes as possible! Email us at hitfactorypod@gmail.com for more info. Follow Jason on Twitter and check out links to his work here. Six blackmail victims are invited to an isolated mansion by a man who knows a dark secret from each of their pasts. On arrival, each is given a pseudonym drawn from Cluedo before being introduced to the blackmailer. Each is handed a weapon, at which point the lights are switched off and the blackmailer is killed. Can the guests uncover the murderer before they all become victims? Brad Gilmore and Jeff Smith have a lot in common. Both are huge fans of the 1985 movie Clue, and both have made significant contributions to the film's legacy. Brad is the author of Back from the Future: A Celebration of the Greatest Time Travel Story Ever Told, and Jeff is the director of Who Done It: A Clue Documentary. In their new podcast, Clue the Movie Podcast, Brad and Jeff watch the movie one minute at a time and break it down. Along the way, they share behind-the-scenes stories, trivia, and their own personal insights. Matt Belenky returns for another Carlee-less episode to discuss Steven Soderbergh's technical tour-de-force 'The Limey'. It's both a whip-smart, crackling crime film showcasing Steven Soderbergh at the height of his power and a mesmerizing, patiently observed rumination on memory, loss, and legacy. We discuss the metatextual significance of leads Terence Stamp and Peter Fonda as mutual elegies for the British New Wave and the American films of the New Hollywood era, the film's brilliantly evocative formal techniques, and Steven Soderbergh's singular position as a prolific auteur in our current era of haphazard regurgitation.Follow Matt Belenky on Twitter.Get access to all of our premium episodes and bonus content by becoming a Hit Factory Patron for just $5/month.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

Viktor Devonne presents: PASSION PROJECT, a series devoted to artists and creators behind really neat stuff. The premiere episode is WHO DONE IT? THE CLUE DOCUMENTARY, with the director/editor/guide Jeff C. Smith, who began his journey in 2017. The final product is a full length documentary now in select theaters, and on its way to VOD. With behind-the-scenes gab from the folks behind the cult classic Clue (Jonathan Lynn! Lesley Ann Warren! Michael McKean!) including extensive conversations on the almost-was (Carrie Fisher as Miss Scarlet? That elusive 4th ending?), loving tribute to the energy of the people who made it happen (the costumes! the sets! the script!), and grateful acknowledgement of the fans who keep the mayhem going, this is the thus-only definitive documentation of the history of the quinessential board game murder mystery comedy. Jeff talks about how the idea formulated, how he got in contact with comedy legends to be on camera, who declined and how nicely, and the road to the movie screen, where it recently showed on both coasts and is now emerging all over. "It's not just a movie based on a board game …anymore." Love this installment, as I had the pleasure of interviewing actor Kyle Gallner (Smile, Dinner in America) and director Mark Pellington (Going All The Way: The Director's Edit).Smile has amassed over $200 million worldwide, and it is now streaming on Paramount+. Kyle Gallner's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kylegface/Going All The Way: The Director's Edit is a 4K re-edit of the 1997 feature which stars Jeremy Davies, Ben Affleck, Lesley Ann Warren, and Rachel Weisz. I loved this movie the first time out, but the director's cut adds new footage (and a new score and opening title sequences) which gives this film an extra level of depth and resonance. There is a November 17 showing at the Laemmle Royal (with Nick Offerman and Pellington in attendance). For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/CdirO0e7kpU Born Robert Preston Meservey in the suburbs of Boston in 1918, Preston moved with his family to Los Angeles as a toddler. He caught the acting bug in high school and continued as an actor with a Shakespearean acting troupe and at the Pasadena Playhouse before being discovered by Paramount Studios in 1938 at the age of nineteen. The song “Seventy-Six Trombones” from The Music Man would forever link Robert Preston to the Broadway musical and the iconic 1962 film that would establish him as a Hollywood and Broadway star. His role as Harold Hill in The Music Man was a pivotal moment for the actor who appeared in dozens of films as well as theater and television productions. A master at shielding his private life, Robert Preston was a distinguished actor and gifted artist on the public stage, yet remained a reclusive, enigmatic man in his private life. Extensive archival research, and interviews Preston's family members and fellow actors including Rosemary Harris, Christopher Walken, Lesley Ann Warren, Loretta Swit, Bob Gunton, Neva Small, and others, has unveiled a richly detailed portrait of the gifted actor's personal life as well as an overview of the films and Broadway productions to which he lent his talent. REVIEWS "Debra Warren has written a fascinating and meticulous chronology of a heretofore enigmatic star – gregarious but intensely private, overachieving but underestimated, charismatic but modest, strategizing but sincere. Preston is now revealed in the full spectrum of his personality. Ms. Warren's passion for detail makes this biography as invaluable a reference as it is an enticing read.” - Ron Spivak, Musical Theater Historian
