Back with another culture shock from India. This time, stray dogs. I got chased twice during my trip and the two experiences could not have been more different! The first time was not my finest moment. The second time, I surprised even myself. This episode is a bit embarrassing, a bit scary, and maybe useful if you ever travel to India

We didn't have alligators to chase us in Southern Indiana, but we did have snakes, who preferred to be let alone but sometimes had to be emphatic about it. Here's a few snake encounters, plus an early example of the old saying, spars the tooth and spoil the child.

Stupid News Extra 4-15-2026 …The Brick Bandit is chased down by a customer

This is part six of a ten-part series from Garrett, a residential contractor on a remote forty-seven-acre property in the southern Appalachians of western North Carolina. In the spring of 2017, Garrett adopted a young shepherd mix named Ruby from a gas station near Chimney Rock. She bonded with Bowie within weeks and joined him on nightly dusk patrols of the meadow, adopting his boundary rules around the property without being taught. On October 14, 2017, both dogs froze mid-patrol, then bolted into the eastern tree line in pursuit of something Garrett couldn't see. He followed with a flashlight as something paralleled him through the trees, matching his pace at a fixed distance. He found Bowie wedged under a fallen tree in a blowdown clearing, trembling and unresponsive. Ruby was forty yards further upslope, frozen in front of four stick structures built in a depression between two beech trees, including a conical teepee of stripped branches and a cluster of living saplings braided together and secured with bark-strip knots.While Garrett stood with Ruby, branch snaps began from three positions behind them, closing in a coordinated circle. He walked south through the formation, and the snapping stopped simultaneously. The circle opened. He retrieved Bowie and descended with both dogs pressed against his legs. During the walk out, Ruby stopped once, turned east, and delivered a single recognition bark into the darkness. He chased Harrison Ford alongside Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive

Police want to speak to two cyclists who were chased by dogs in a small Northland town where a woman was fatally attacked. 62 year old Mihiata Te Rore died after suffering what police have described as "unsurvivable injuries" cause by several dogs at the Kaihu house that she was visiting last Tuesday. Kaipara District Council has told Checkpoint it had visited the property with the dogs four times, including the day before the fatal attack. Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer spoke to Lisa Owen.

Red writes "On August 17th, 2023, I was camping with a close friend In Stephen's state forest in south central Iowa, not far from the Missouri border. It is very remote for the Midwest in that area. There are no electrical lines in this particular forest, so no lights. My friend and I got into the forest at dusk and set up camp. We saw no vehicles as we drove through the forest and the campsite we stayed at was completely empty. Twenty minutes or so after setting up camp, we heard an incredibly loud sound from the northwest corner of the camp. It was so loud it made us both jump and all of my hair immediately stood on end. The sound was like a howler monkey whooping, but it sounded like it was the size of a minivan. Immediately after this, about 150 feet south of us in the tree line, another noise happened. It sounded like Babe Ruth was in the forest slamming a bat against a tree. There were 6 whacks or knocks. They came in 3 successions of twos. Knock knock. Knock knock. Knock knock. That night we got chased out of the campsite by 3 or 4 of these creatures. It kept me out of the woods for a long time. I would love to tell you the whole experience."
