Matthew 9:18-38 | Kingdom Now: Reach Out in Faith

"Christmas is DYNOMITE"

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 23, 2026 51:17

In this episode of the podcast from the church, Pastor Karl concludes the study of Matthew chapter 9, highlighting Jesus' revelation of His power through a series of remarkable miracles. He explains Matthew's Jewish perspective, portraying Jesus as the promised Messiah and Anointed One, contrasting this with other Gospel accounts. He recaps the structure of Matthew, noting how chapters 8–9 demonstrate Jesus' authority over disease, death, and demonic forces through ten miracles, while also showing the kinds of people who desperately approach Him.The core message centers on true faith: it arises not merely from believing Jesus can help, but from admitting that nothing else can. Pastor Karl unpacks the encounters in Matthew 9:18–34—the synagogue ruler pleading for his deceased daughter, the woman with a 12-year hemorrhage who touches Jesus' garment in faith (possibly connecting to Malachi's prophecy of healing in His "wings" or "corners"), the two blind men calling Him "Son of David" and trusting in His mercy alone, and the deliverance of a mute, demon-possessed man whose condition defied traditional Jewish exorcism methods. Through these stories, he emphasizes that desperate faith, even if imperfect or "weak," directed toward the right Savior—Jesus—releases God's power. Faith often requires a public "touchpoint" of expression, removing unbelieving voices that sound logical but hinder God's work, and ultimately trusting in God's mercy rather than demanding specific outcomes.Pastor Karl closes by applying the passage to the church's present moment, noting the explosive community growth in their area—with thousands of new residents and students arriving soon—as evidence that "the fields are ripe for harvest." Jesus' compassion on the harassed and helpless crowds compels believers to pray for workers and step into the harvest themselves, making this not just a message about miracles but about the church's responsibility to reach those in need with the gospel of the kingdom.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Send a textAs Scripture tells us, Jesus voluntarily limited His divinity and confined Himself to His Human flesh. One exception was when Jesus performed miracles. In this episode, we look at some of the miracles Jesus performed while He was on earth. What was the miracle? What was it's purpose? What was the symbolism of it? What is the application of it for us? Are the miracles like those in the New Testament  still happening today? And finally, is Jesus still gifting people to perform them? Thanks for tuning in! Guest speaker David White continues the "Kingdom Now" series in Matthew 8, showing that wherever God's kingdom arrives, chaos is confronted—but comfort is challenged. He examines two powerful encounters: Jesus calming a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee, where panicked disciples question His care despite His presence, and Jesus casting demons from two violent men into a herd of pigs in Gentile territory. The restored men return to community, but the townspeople—upset by the economic loss—beg Jesus to leave, preferring familiar chaos to costly change.David stresses Jesus' absolute authority over external storms and internal oppression, yet following Him requires denying self and embracing discomfort rather than seeking ease. He contrasts “Couch Jesus” (comfort-focused) with “Coach Jesus” (growth-focused), urging the dangerous prayer: “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”—inviting God to confront chaos in marriages, families, finances, and mental health, while trusting Him through the inevitable challenges.Core truth: The kingdom is now—actively confronting chaos and challenging comfort—because Jesus loves us too much to leave us unchanged.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Thy Strong Word kicks off the new year by dedicating our time to study "The Magnificent 37: The Miracles of Jesus." Christ didn't just speak the Word; He demonstrated it with power. From the quiet intimacy of water turning to wine at Cana to the earth-shaking reality of the empty tomb, the Gospels record thirty-seven distinct moments where Jesus suspended the laws of nature to reveal the power of his grace. This isn't just a list of "neat tricks" from history. It is a systematic walkthrough of how God breaks into our broken world to fix it. Why did Jesus curse a fig tree? Why did He need mud to heal a blind man? What does the coin in the fish's mouth teach us about being citizens of heaven and earth?  Host, Pastor Phil Booe and a lineup of guest pastors will take you through each event, verse by verse. We'll move past the Sunday School summary and get into the meat of the text, including the Old Testament connections, the cultural context, and the immediate comfort these signs bring to your life today.   Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. In today's episode, Hunter invites you to join him on this December 18th journey through the Scriptures as we approach the end of the year. Together, you'll dive into John chapters 2 through 4, witnessing Jesus' miraculous signs—from turning water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana, to healing the official's son with just a word, and his transformative conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. More than just recounting stories, Hunter encourages us to look for the deeper signs that all point to Christ as the source of hope, joy, and transformation in our lives. As we move through this Advent season, Hunter reminds us that the incarnation of Jesus is both a sign of God's immeasurable love and a statement of our value in His eyes. The episode wraps up with a time of prayer, reflection, and gratitude for the Daily Radio Bible community. Whether you're new to the podcast or a longtime listener, today's reading and reflections are sure to encourage your heart and help you see Jesus afresh in this season. So grab your Bible, settle in, and experience a transformative encounter with the God who is always with you. TODAY'S DEVOTION: All the signs are pointing to Him. We see it at the wedding feast, where Jesus turns water into wine. And we see it again in the healing of the government official's son—where, simply by Jesus' word, a boy is healed, a fever is gone, and a prayer is answered. Every sign in these stories draws our attention to Christ Himself. All the signs, not just in these chapters but throughout the gospel, are pointing to Him as the source and fulfillment of our hope. As we move through this Advent season, the days leading up to Christmas, may we remember that every sign, every symbol, every hope is pointing to Jesus. He is our wedding feast. He is the One who turns our ordinary water into extraordinary wine. He is the One who responds to the deep cries of our hearts. In Him, our longings meet their answer. The Gospel of John reveals Him, over and over again, in powerful signs and wonders—but those signs are not the point. They are arrows directing us to the One who gives life. During Advent, may our eyes and hearts be open to recognize Him afresh. Emmanuel—God with us—has come. He has not only identified with us by taking on our humanity but has also embraced us so that we might share in the very life and joy He has with the Father, through the Spirit. This is the depth of His love, and in that love, we find our true value—how deeply we are loved and cherished by God. Let us pray for eyes to see the signs and hearts to believe what they show us: that all is pointing to Jesus, to His love, His sacrifice, His inclusion of us into God's very life. That is my prayer for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May we see all the signs, and may they always lead us to Him. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Today's story is found in Mark 2:1–12 "Jesus heals a paralysed man"                               ________________________________________________ Picking his way carefully across the roof, Caleb stopped where he thought the middle of the house would be. Kneeling down, he began to pull at the tiles of the roof, trying to lift them off. Dirt caked under his fingernails as he dug, and the midday sun was hot against his back. His arm was getting really sore, but he forced himself to keep going, knowing Asher was down below, just waiting for his chance to see…  POP!  A tile lifted up, and Caleb was so surprised it took him a moment to register his thoughts. It worked! He thought to himself gleefully, as he pulled the rest of the tile off the roof. Once the tile had been taken off, through the small square, he could see into the house.  Walking quickly but carefully back to the edge of the roof, Caleb waved his arms to get Levi and Hannah's attention..... What happened next?
