Serving as a "bridge" between our last episode, Bread from Heaven, and our discussion on the Bread of Life discourse (John 6); this week we take up the topic of the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000. From the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, Jesus multiplied the available food such that the crowd that was following him could "eat their fill." Yet, 12 baskets remained leftover. How is this possible? What was John trying to reveal to us about Jesus Christ? What is significant about the language the Gospel writer uses and what are the parallels that can be drawn? How does this miracle point ultimately to the Eucharist? It's not about what you have - in your bank account, in your cupboard, in your heart. It's about what you bring to Jesus. You might feel like you have so little, but when we are faithful with what we have, you can multiply it. Watch the Full Service

Jesus feeds over 5000 people at once. We chat about what this story meant back then, that it was a way of saying "Jesus is our king, not you!" without really saying it. Merry also talks about her book, The Diplomacy of Migration. We then apply her thesis theologically to the the Biblical story to see how we can apply these lessons today in our lives and in our world.

After a little searching the disciples found five loaves and two fish. Jesus took what they brought, held it to heaven blessed it, and created a meal for everyone present and literally had leftovers. Jesus put his foot in that meal. For he is the one that provides, he is the one calls us to a place of reconnecting, rest, and to enjoy what he provides.
