When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell Jesus, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, because I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For I am also a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. I say to this one, ‘Go!' and he goes; and to another one, ‘Come!' and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.” 9 When Jesus heard these things, he was amazed at him. He turned to the crowd that was following him and said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel.” 10 And when the men who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well. Jesus Raises a Widow's Son 11 Soon afterward [1] Jesus went on his way to a town called Nain, and [2] his disciples and a large crowd were traveling with him. 12 As he was approaching the town gate, there was a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother. She was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not cry.” 14 He went up to the open coffin, touched it, and the pallbearers stopped. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16 Fear gripped all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us” and “God has visited his people!” 17 This was reported about him in all of Judea and in all the surrounding countryside. In this message from John 11, we're joined by Pastor Diego Araya from Comunidad Nexo in Costa Rica, one of South's Global Partners, as we sit with the story of Lazarus and the stunning claim Jesus makes about Himself as the resurrection and the life. As we watch Martha and Mary wrestle with grief, disappointment, and hope, we're invited to see how Jesus speaks into our own fears about death and the unknown. This sermon reminds us that Jesus doesn't just offer healing; He calls us from death to life and reshapes the way we see our future, inviting us to trust Him, live without fear, and share the hope found in Christ.
The sign of raising Lazarus from the dead was a manifestation of God's glory and designed to give faith or increase the faith of God's people. Many saw the glory, and thus believed in Jesus. Unfortunately, others merely saw a raw display of power, and went to tell the Pharisees what they witnessed. Salvation and sanctification only occurs when we see the glory.

(This podcast was previously recorded and published on October 20, 2020) Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... Before we are taken into heaven, we are changed out of this present body and given a new spiritual body, says Paul in I Corinthians 15. Paul says: There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Blink! That is how fast we will be changed into our new spiritual bodies before we are taken into heaven. Then Paul tells about Jesus raising those who have died. I Thessalonians 4 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (dead), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep (dead). 16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Jesus takes us to the new heavens and the new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness. For the great tribulation will come upon this present earth and after that this heaven and earth will be destroyed by God by fire. (2 Peter 3:10-14) *** God showed the apostle John the new heaven and new earth. Revelation 21 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and HE will dwell with them, and they shall be HIS people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away 5 And HE that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And HE said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. ***** We will be changed into new spiritual bodies before we are taken into the air to be with Jesus. I Corinthians 15 The apostle Paul says: 38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased Him, and to every seed his own body. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. 40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (Blink. That is how fast we will be changed into our new spiritual bodies.) 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. *** After the great tribulation, God destroys this present heaven and earth. II Peter 3 Peter says: 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. *** Philippians 4 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Do you feel broken, worn out, or like hope has left the room? In Luke 7, we see Jesus walk into a funeral, face-to-face with a widow whose only son had died. She was not only grieving, she was ruined. No husband, no son, no future. But when Jesus saw her, He didn't just offer words. He reached into her grief with compassion and spoke with power. “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead sat up. That same Christ is alive today, full of compassion and full of authority. He meets us in our sorrow and has the power to bring the dead things in our lives back to life.Jesus wasn't concerned with ritual or appearance. He touched the unclean. He spoke to the broken. And when the people saw what He had done, they feared and glorified God, crying out that a prophet had come and that God had visited His people. But He's more than a prophet. He is Priest, King, and Savior. The one who came not just to comfort us but to conquer sin and death itself. Do you know that Jesus? Do you trust the One who raises the dead? Today, He still speaks, and His words still give life.

The anchor of our faith is not just in the death of Jesus on the cross, but in His resurrection. We also experience grief, fear, and disappointment in death. Jesus does more than bring comfort, peace, and hope; He gives us new life.
Join us as we continue the series I Shall Not Want. In this message, Pastor Zach Wright reminds us how Jesus walks with us in our pain and has power over death.
This Sunday, join us as we consider how our faith is one that breaks barriers. Barriers can often define our lives, but faith has the power to break through. From the bustling streets of Mong Kok to the serene hills of Lantau, we're called to be prophets of hope and agents of change. Let us, together, have our faith inspire action and bring light to dark places. Just as Jesus broke barriers in his time, we too can break down walls of division in our city. Let's be the change we want to see, spreading love and compassion to all corners of Hong Kong. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! We would love to get to know you.
