At the Via LA 2025 Bridge Summit in San Francisco, Clause 8 host Eli Mazour sat down with two leaders who play pivotal roles in connecting innovators and licensees around the world:* Jane Bu, Chief Licensing Officer at Via LA, the world's largest patent pool. (You can listen to Eli's previous conversation with Via's President, Heath Hoglund, here).* Rob Tobias, CEO & President of HDMI LA, the organization formed by Hitachi, Matsushita, Maxell, Philips, Silicon Image, Sony, Thomson and Toshiba to manage and promote the now ubiquitous HDMI interface. In this episode, the discussion turns to the difficulties of licensing in Asia — not as an abstract policy topic, but as a practical reality shaped by culture, relationships, and business expectations.Jane Bu reflects on how negotiations in Asian markets often rely less on formal processes and more on mutual trust built through repeated, in-person engagement. She also discusses China's transformation from a latecomer in IP to one of the most active and sophisticated licensing environments in the world — and why patience and long-term relationship-building remain essential for licensors and licensees alike. From a different perspective, Rob Tobias explains how HDMI's licensing framework relies on more than patents alone. He outlines how trademarks and brand protection have played a central role in ensuring compliance, maintaining quality, and driving global adoption of the HDMI standard — including in complex markets such as China and India.Together, their insights highlight how successful licensing in Asia depends as much on understanding people and context as it does on legal or technical structures.

Some say laughter has the power to heal. Howard Thomson, North American pow wow emcee, hobby rancher, cultural man and residential school survivor, is one of those believers. He joins Evan to share his story of being a residential school survivor and how he turned his trauma around to bring joy on the North American pow wow trail.
In this episode, we dive deep with philosopher of physics Wayne Myrvold to puncture entropy clichés and reframe thermodynamics as a resource theory. He argues the “entropy always increases” slogan is a consequence—not the law—and shows that Clausius's entropy is defined only given the second law, while Gibbs vs. Boltzmann entropies answer different questions (“which entropy?”). We tour Maxwell's demon, Landauer erasure, available energy/Helmholtz free energy, and why, once fluctuations matter, Carnot efficiency is only a statistical bound. Along the way: macrostates vs. microstates, why “disorder” misleads, ergodicity's limited relevance, whether the universe is an isolated system, heat death as resource exhaustion, and how collapse theories would rewrite the story. We even touch QFT/stat-mech pedagogy and career advice. If you're curious about what entropy really is—and how information, agency, and objectives change the answer—this one's for you. God's amazing grace is so...amazing! Grace is such a rich theological term. It can, however, become a rather "churchy" word. Sometimes we use it without pausing to consider its meaning and place in God's plan. Join guest Jamie Thomson and Jonathan as they have an open Bible discussion about grace. Want to do more than "write" copy? Then you need to get involved with your client's projects before they decide what they're going to do. And to explain how you do that, copywriter Jamie Thomson joins me on The Copywriter Club Podcast. We talked about his process for going from discovery call to paid workshop and then paid project on this episode. You don't want to miss it. Click the play button below, or scroll down for a full transcript. Stuff to check out: Jamie's website Jamie's free Strategist Copywriter Course The Copywriter Club Facebook Group The Copywriter Underground Full Transcript: Rob Marsh: If you're a copywriter who wants more input into the work you do and more money for contributing your insights early, keep listening. This is The Copywriter Club Podcast. Far too many copywriters are content taking an assignment from a client and simply writing the words. In fact, there are thousands of copywriters and content writers who think that's what copywriting is—choosing the right words to make a client sound good. They even call themselves wordsmiths as if all they're doing is coming up with the words. Now obviously, writing the words is a big part of what we do. Often, it's the only obvious part of a project that we can point to and say, that's my work. But great copywriters don't start with writing the words. They get involved in their client's projects much earlier in the process. Before design direction is figured out. Before the brand voice is settled. Even before a client decides what exactly they need to solve the marketing problem they have. This is where copywriters should start on a project. That work is strategy… deep diving on the problem to be solved and exploring the various ways to find a solution, some of which might not even be copywriting-focused. Okay, so how do you do it. My guest for this episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast is Jamie Thomson. Jamie takes his clients from discovery call to paid workshop to project in a process that immediately puts him in charge of driving the strategy for a project. It's a process that makes him significantly more valuable and critical to the success of a project than simply taking a project from a client and writing the copy. What's more, because Jamie plays such an important role in his projects, and his impact is obvious to his clients, they often come back for even more work which takes the pressure off client-finding and allows him to spend more time client serving. In the age of A.I., when the machines can write copy faster than you can… and yes I know, it's not as good, but can your clients tell the difference? So in the age of A.I., this is one strategy that makes you more valuable as a copywriter who solves problems and gets paid to do it. If that sounds interesting to you, then stick around. And if that doesn't sound interesting to you, maybe Jamie's soothing Scottish accent will be enough to keep you engaged. It works for me. No matter what kind of copywriting business you want for yourself, The Copywriter Underground is packed with resources to show up as a business owner—not just a freelancer—to help you find clients, and solve big problems that clients are happy to pay big money to get off their plates. From copywriting and business templates to get you started (including a legal document and a proven onboarding process) to workshops to help you build your authority, attract clients, create products and services your clients want to buy, how to be more strategic and a lot more—The Underground is like a starter-kit for your writing business… It's a complete business-in-a-box that you can plug into your own business and hit play. As questions come up, you have access to our private slack community, monthly group coaching, and regular feedback on your copy. I've been inside a lot of memberships and The Underground is the best value for content writers and copywriters I've ever seen.

Just as many analyze rock music for Satan, who can be found in greater abundance instead within pop music, we are looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods too. The approaching 3I/ATLAS interstellar object has been classified as possibly non-natural, largely based on the work of a Harvard team led by Abraham (Avi) Loeb. In a recent paper, termed a “pedagogical exercise,” the team said “the most likely outcome” of the anomaly will be that it is “completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet.” But this has not stopped speculation from spiraling out of control, so that what was a thought experiment has now evolved into a warning about a coming extraterrestrial invasion. But there is more to the story, because the ideas presented here are equivalent to to SARS-CoV2, i.e., an invisible potential threat.Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna recently told Joe Rogan in August 2025 that she's seen evidence of “interdimensional beings” and that there are reports of their “movements outside of time and space.” She goes on to refer to the Bible and the time of Christ, meaning that her comments share a relationship with ancient astronaut theory too. This reminds us of White House science adviser Michael Kratsios who claimed in April 2025 the U.S. has technology that can “manipulate time and space.” It won't be lost on some that the congressman is named Luna, Latin for moon, and the science advisor's name is derived from Kratos, Greek for strength and power and associated with war; he is the enforcer of Zeus with his sister Bia (force). The name “Atlas” has the same meaning of strength, though in mythology he is a Titan, or a primordial deity of natural forces. The two previous interstellar objects, Oumuamua and Borisov, which means “messenger from afar arriving first” and “fighter” respectively. Such names imply a coming messenger and fighter that has the ability to change the order of life and introduce a new way of thinking.Going back to a July 8, 1947, memorandum numbered 6751, the U.S. government reportedly knew that Roswell - whatever happened - was to be understood on the basis that the flying “disks carry crews” or are “under remote control,” and that they have a mission from another world. The documented says their “planet” is an “etheric planet which interpenetrates with our own and is not perceptible to us.” It likewise links their home to the Lokas and Talas, respectively the higher and lower spiritual planes. Avi Loeb also recently posited that 3I/ATLAS may herald the arrival of “a messianic era,” that the messiah may come “from another star.” He also believes there “needs to be an international organization” to deal with possible peace or conflict which accompanies contact, though he hopes, like President Reagan, such a thing will “bring people together” even if it is based on “an external threat.” It must not be a coincidence that reports are simultaneously being published by religious websites claiming Israel has either already performed the red heifer sacrifice or at least conducted a test run for the real ritual, something many believe is necessary before the Third Temple can be built. However, ultra-orthodox Jews believe this is wrong, and that divine intervention should be the author of ritual instead of human initiative. Other Jews see the sacrifice as archaic and believe the messiah is an era, like Loeb eluded too, rather than a person. Either way, almost all Christians are eager to fulfill perceived prophecy.Amateur astronomers have further noted the appearance of cube-like structures near the sun and some have even suggested that certain views of 3I/ATLAS appear to portray the object in a similar form. Of course this relates to Revelation 21:16 which describes the New Jerusalem as a cube. However, the book in question is a metaphoric spiritual treatise and the city in question is nothing more than the foundation of peace. The cube indicates a sort of polished masonic rock, where a person is square and upright. Whether interpreted literally or figuratively we can still find a messianic era and the bringer of peace in these stories, though if such things are perceived as literal they may bring war instead. On the other hand, UAP celebrities like Jeremy Corbell have contrarily been warning that the public is going to be told “there is a craft on its way to Earth” and that it is a “lie you are going to be told.” So why are we looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods? Because quietly under our noses the rise of AI has taken over businesses, schools, governments and even spirituality. The big technology boom in AI is also, according to Larry Ellison of Oracle, evolving primarily out of Herzliya Israel. If the Jewish messiah or messianic concept in some capacity arrives from another star, even if such an idea can be implanted, then perhaps it would explain why certain Jewish stereotypes and the Jewish covenant with god have been seen as part of the ancient alien narrative. In fact, the entire idea of ancient aliens, or paleo-astronautics, was first introduced by Matest M. Agrest who was born into a family of Torah scholars. As C.J.S. Thomson wrote of the Elf, their home “is in the celestial regions” and they are “skilled in the mechanical arts.”*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Listeners will hear vivid stories of instinct, intelligence, and sheer determination—from a dog named Amos who refused to leave stragglers behind, to the way a well-trained collie can replace two ranch hands and cut chore time in half. Stefan Collini, FBA. Professor Emeritus of Intellectual History and English Literature, University of Cambridge. The Donald Winch Lectures in Intellectual History.University of St Andrews. 11th, 12th & 13th October 2022.In the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, universities expanded to include a wide range of what came to be regarded as academic ‘disciplines'. In Britain, the study of ‘English literature' was eventually to become one of the biggest and most popular of these subjects, yet it was in some ways an awkward fit: not obviously susceptible to the ‘scientific' treatment considered the hallmark of a scholarly discipline, it aroused a kind of existential commitment in many of those who taught and studied it. These lectures explore some of the ways in which these tensions worked themselves out in the last two hundred years, drawing on a wide range of sources to understand the aspirations invested in the subject, the resistance that it constantly encountered, and the distinctive forms of enquiry that came to define it. In so doing, they raise larger questions about the changing character of universities, the peculiar cultural standing of ‘literature', and the conflicting social expectations that societies have entertained towards higher education and specialized scholarship.Handout - Lecture 3: Syllabuses1. ‘“English”, including Anglo-Saxon and Middle English along with modern English, including what we ordinarily call the “dull” periods as well as the “great” ones, is an object more or less presented to us by nature.'2. ‘In the 1880s, an exciting duel between two great publishing houses brought the price of the rival National and World Libraries (Cassell's and Routledge's, respectively) down to 3d in paper and 6d in cloth. And not only were prices cut: the selection of titles was greatly enlarged, the old standbys - Milton, Pope, Cowper, Thomson, Burns, Goldsmith, and the rest - being joined by many other authors who had seldom or ever appeared in cheap editions.'3. ‘Sir John Denham (1615-1668) is familiar from the oft-quoted couplet in his poem of Cooper's Hill, the measured and stately versification of which has been highly praised. He died an old man in the reign of Charles II, with a mind clouded by the sudden loss of his young wife, whom he had married late in life. John Cleveland (1613-1659), author of the Rebel Scot and certain vigorous attacks on the Protector, was the earliest poetical champion of royalty. Butler is said to have adopted the style of his satires in Hudibras. Colonel Richard Lovelace (1618-1658) ....'4. ‘Poetry: More advanced poems from Chaucer (e.g. The Prologue), Shakespeare, Spenser, Milton, Pope, Wordsworth, Tennyson, or from selections such as The Golden Treasury; Shakespeare, (Histories, Comedies or easier Tragedies). Prose: Plutarch's Lives, Kinglake, Eothen, Borrow, Lavengro, Ruskin, Sesame and Lilies, Frowde [sic; ?Froude], selected short studies, Modern prose Comedies (e.g. Goldsmith and Sheridan), Selections from British Essayists (e.g. Addison, Lamb, Goldsmith), Macaulay, Essays or selected chapters from The History.'5. ‘In the 1930s favourite Higher Certificate set books and authors among the various Boards include: The Faerie Queene, Marlowe's Faustus, Bacon's essays, Sidney's Apologie for Poetrie, Hakluyt, The New Atlantis, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, Lamb, Carlyle, Pope, Dryden, Scott and the Romantic poets. These texts and authors changed hardly at all between 1930 and 1950 (and represent a very similar situation to that of 1900-1910).'6. ‘An Honours Degree in English Language and Literature at present entails, in every University in England, some knowledge both of Latin or Greek at the outset, and of Old English later.' On Episode 989 of Hittin' Season, powered by WHYY, John Stolnis of The Good Phight recaps Wednesday night's awful loss to the Red Sox and tries to get to the bottom of Jesus Luzardo's struggles. Also, Cristopher Sanchez is now a bona fide ace, John goes inside the numbers on what makes him so special. And what are the latest Trade Rumors surrounding the Phils? John breaks down all the latest. Could the Phils move Ranger Suarez or Luzardo this summer? Show Notes: Disastrous loss in the finale Phillies blow a 5-0 lead, HRs from Schwarber, Harper, Castellanos & Stott, Realmuto It's the Phils' first loss in a game they homered five or more times since June 10, 2019. They haven't won three in a row since June 18-20. Blame Realmuto & Luzardo, who had a no-hitter going into the 5th, gives us 6 in the 5th after walking in two runs then serving up a grand slam FELL APART WHILE PITCHING FROM THE STRETCH AGAIN Thomson said they have to keep digging and working on what's wrong with Luzardo, specifically in the stretch Since June 11, opponents have hit .192/.252/.253 with 37 strikeouts and eight walks when there is no one on base against Luzardo. With runners on base, those numbers jump to .339/.443/.576, 16 strikeouts and 11 walks. (Gelb) Gelb says he went back to his old mechanics last night, but it still didn't work Jesus Luzardo says he is working day and night to fix his issues and he says they need to be fixed. He says teams are hitting him hard when he is pitching out of the stretch. He says it is not on JT Realmuto losing that foul ball pop-up. He says he and other Phillies lost it as well. Manager Rob Thomson says Jesus Luzardo lost his concentration. Phillies now 3-8 in Luzardo's last 11 starts They've now given Luzardo 3-0, 4-1 and 5-0 leads in July only to have him lose all 3 of them. He posted a 2.15 ERA in his first 11 starts. He allowed 20 runs in his next two. He made significant mechanical changes when pitching from the stretch, and it's resulted in only a 4.79 ERA over his last nine starts. UNLESS LUZARDO FIGURES THIS OUT, THEIR ENTIRE OFF-SEASON WILL HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE The good news is this is a mechanical issue… which would indicate to me it CAN be fixed… but can they fix it in time? PITCH TIPPING: The Red Sox are renowned for doing this. Two pitches later, Story doubled home a run. THIS WAS NOT A STRONG ROB THOMSON GAME Luzardo should have been pulled after the second straight bases loaded walk, but got Jordan Romano up too late… after the game, Thomson admitted that was a mistake Pinch-ran Weston Wilson for Kyle Schwarber in the 10th after Schwarber's RBI single… Wilson, who is not fast… thrown out trying to steal 2nd to end the 10th With Wilson already used, Max Kepler had to face a lefty reliever and watched a called strike three to end the game in the 11th, instead of having Wilson available to pinch hit Rob Thomson on the 5th inning tonight: Said they have to keep digging and working on what's wrong with Luzardo, specifically in the stretch Harper's home run was the 350th of his career Bryce Harper tonight became the youngest of the 8 active players to reach 350 career home runs joining Giancarlo Stanton, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, Manny Machado, Freddie Freeman, Nolan Arenado, Aaron Judge. Kyle Schwarber's 34 HR are the 3rd-most through 102 games in Phillies franchise history, behind only Ryan Howard in 2006 and Mike Schmidt in 1979 -- both had 36. Cristopher Sanchez is a TRUE ACE: https://www.thegoodphight.com/2025/7/23/24472912/cristopher-sanchez-is-a-real-bona-fide-cy-young-contender WHEELER & SANCHEZ This gives the Phillies a leg-up in the postseason No one can match what the Phillies can do in the playoffs STARK ON SCHWARBER Says he believes Schwarber will be back here 4 years, $100 million is the number… how is he going to have a better deal four years AFTER the first free agent contract??? TRADE DEADLINE LATEST: Jayson Stark on 975 the Fanatic w/ Mikey Miss: Dombrowski wants to use his biggest chips to trade for a big time power bullpen arm controllable beyond this year, Duran, Bautista, no on Miller or Clase If he gets one, it's a right-handed platoon bat that falls into his lap Bullpen arm is more important than a bat Jeff Passan: The Phillies have quietly built up one of the best farm systems in baseball, and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski's history of trading prospects for impact talent is unmatched. Still, with the Phillies entering a transition phase over the next few years, they aren't likely to sacrifice all of their depth. That complicates their tack at this deadline, because they are among the few teams with the need and capacity to acquire a pitcher of Clase's talent. Same goes for Cade Smith, another Guardian, and the Twins' two frontline relievers, Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax. Getting David Robertson for $6 million certainly helps matters and serves as insurance against objectionable demands on high-end relief pitchers. And yet adding Robertson plus a high-octane relief arm alongside Orion Kerkering and Matt Strahm gives the Phillies a representative back end. If they can also add a right-handed-hitting outfielder with power -- Adolis Garcia is in the mix, and Luis Robert Jr. would play, too -- it will be a successful deadline for a team whose starting pitching is good enough to carry it deep into October. Ruben Amaro & Jim Salisbury on Phillies Show Very interesting stuff on the show from Amaro (doesn't think they'll be able to get a lock down closer), Aiden Miller might be more untouchable than Painter, and the clubhouse talking about Eugenio Suarez (Salisbury). @JohnnyPhisher: Phillies need a RHH OF @Buster_ESPN: A surprise name has emerged in the starting pitcher market: Dylan Cease, who will be eligible for free agency at year's end. Perception of other teams is that the Padres are intent on making a push for the playoffs, and would use Cease to help fill other roster needs. Mets, AL East teams, Cubs among teams that have talked about him. COULD THE PHILLIES DO SOMETHING SIMILAR WITH RANGER SUAREZ OR JESUS LUZARDO? Jo Adell started slow, but on May 6 he hit a 9th inning HR in a blowout that got things going for him. Since then (67 gms) he has a .907 OPS (top 20 in MLB) with 19 HR (T-6th), and his .563 SLG is higher than any Phillies player. An interesting name: Dane Myers. Plays center field for the Marlins. The right-handed 29 year is wailing on lefties: .324/.385/.493, .878 OPS, 2 HRs, 13 RBIs in 78 PAs, 6 doubles. Would be a platoon guy. The Phillies and Padres are two of the many teams that have expressed interest in Steven Kwan, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post. Both National League contenders are known to be looking for a left field upgrade.
