Our human connection with Nature and Science can be directly experienced through our own individual body—a body that we don't just have as a possession, but a body that we are—as a way of being in the world. Modern day posture and innate posture are very different. One is an adaptation, something contrived, while the other is as old as the hills. This episode focuses on the relationship between old-as-the-hills Nature and its relationship with Science, which, it can be argued, always existed even before humans came along and discovered it, building a language and field of study around it. It's in these and countless other ways that Nature and Science converge and overlap. It's easy to think of Nature and Science as being very different from each other. Nature is all about magnificence, mystery and splendor, while Science is precise, factual, and predictable. This episode includes a guided exercise for experiencing Ground Reaction Force, a scientific phenomenon that relates to Newton's Third Law of Motion. GRF explains an energetic exchange between the human body and the Earth, which is the driving force for movement of humans and all other animals.

Anthony Ongaro of Break the Twitch shares how to use Newton's Third Law to make habits last longer. Episode 1323: How To Use Newton's Third Law To Make Habits Last Longer by Anthony Ongaro of Break The Twitch on Momentum After years of impulse spending on Amazon and elsewhere, Anthony Ongaro realized that his one-click purchase habits were more of a physical Twitch than an intentional action. It turned out, this Twitch wasn’t just limited to online spending. It applied to social media, impulsive smartphone usage, and more. Break the Twitch is all about minimizing distractions and doing more of what matters. Hello, fair listeners, and welcome back to another tribute to the grandeur and majesty of the greatest superhero group ever founded...THE NEW GUARDIANS!!! Nope, even with bold and all caps, I can't pull that off with any level of sincerity. Actually, this is episode #33 of Just One of the Guys, and like the prior 32 episodes, we are going to be covering a Green Lantern comic, this one dealing with creepy plants, creepy black ooze tentacles, clingy alien girlfriends, and THE NEW GUARDIANS!!! Still not working? I try... Also, we continue our coverage of the Guy Gardner solo series, as Guy takes on the three former faux Lanterns, causes major property damage, and we all learn a little bit about Newton's Third Law via Guy ramming a bus into his foes. And finally the reason behind this unwarranted attack on Guy is finally revealed! Please don't spoil the jaw dropping ending! Because it's really not all that amazing (it involves little bug-eyed aliens). So if you don't want to find yourself on the wrong end of an Orange Line Subway car, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! A brief look at his final law of motion and how it affects the objects concerned.
Class begins with a review of the first problem set. Newton's Third Law is applied in explaining how exoplanets are found. An overview of the Solar System is given; each planet is presented individually and its special features are highlighted. Astronomy is discussed as an observational science, and the subject of how to categorize objects in the Solar System is addressed. The Pluto controversy is given special attention and both sides of the argument regarding its status are considered.
Transcript: Newton’s third law of motion says that for every force there is an equal and opposite force. This is sometimes called the principle of action and reaction. For example, when you sit on a chair you exert a downward force due to gravity, but if the chair does not move or break the chair is exerting an upward force to support you. A rocket is another example of action and reaction. The forward motion of the rocket is countered by an equal force backwards that propels the exhaust gasses from the nozzle of the rocket. The recoil of a gun is a similar situation. When you punch a wall, if you are foolish enough to do so, the force you exert on the wall is countered by an equal and opposite force on your fist which will cause you much pain. If you jump from a boat onto the pier the boat will move backwards, the reaction force to your force that moves you forward towards the pier. The principle of action and reaction has many examples in everyday life, and it’s a fundamental statement of the raw rules of mechanics.

Sam, Omid and Baden have created some excellent animations to help explain Newton's Third Law in this physics video podcast. They look at rockets, jet aircraft and cannons and use them to explain that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
How can a rocket engine lift itself off the ground? Push a wall and you will be pushed back. Newton's Third Law of Motion states that every force has an equal force applied in the opposite direction. If air, trapped in a fire extinguisher, is "thrown" backwards by releasing it, Dr. Carlson can be pushed forward by the blast - his very own jet-car!Science Theater Episode 9: Equal and Opposite Force
