Welcome back to the tenth episode of First Take Film Club, the podcast where we give our initial impressions of films we've watched for the first time. On today's pod we have Liam and Connor two-manning it, as Luke suns himself in Italy. But, the show must go on. Liam gives us his opinions on Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread and Connor tries to breakdown Boots Riley's debut film Sorry To Bother You. Along with this, we have some news in brief and some in depth film chat. Don't forget, if you're enjoying the podcast to spread the word, share on twitter/Instagram and leave us a review on Apple podcasts, it helps us a lot! Thanks x
One year ago the world heard an awful lot about Kevin Spacey being replaced at the last minute in a film scheduled to be released just over a month later on Christmas Day. For their opening weekend of December 29-31 Ridley Scott's ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD would be the top new release at the box-office but would fade over the Oscar season as Paul Thomas Anderson's PHANTOM THREAD expanded and became the object of cinephiles fascination. We expect the same of our guest Web Bist as he opens the show by calling SOBER CINEMA the whitest thing since Daniel Day Lewis as a 1950s dressmaker. One could choose to take this as a compliment but you can decide for yourself by clicking on the links below: Support what we do with bonus content and early episodes on Patreon Listen: iTunes/Podbean Facebook/Instagram/Twitter: @sobercinema
Welcome back as we set sail on Episode 3 of Some Like It Scott. The two Scotts debate the merits of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MO, before heaping (unsettling?) praise on Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, as one of the best movies of 2017. They then give an update on the Movie Trivia Schmoedown, before walking through their personal choice for worst book-to-film adaptation. See below for timecodes for the episode: 1:31 - Three Billboards outside Ebbing, MO 58:26 - Phantom Thread 1:36:35 - Movie Trivia Schmoedown recap 1:55:41 - Discussion topic of the week: worst book-to-film adaptation 2:09:18 - That Solo trailer

There are only three shows left in the 2017 movie season, ending with our annual Dorkfest 2017 wrapup of our top 10 films of the year. And we've got three biggies to dig into down the stretch. First, Steven Spielberg's stirring ode to journalism and democracy, "The Post," starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Then Daniel Day-Lewis' last performance (sure, Daniel) in Paul Thomas Anderson's "Phantom Thread." And we finish with Aaron Sorkin's poker drama "Molly's Game." Learn more about your ad choices.
