James III (Black Men Can't Jump [In Hollywood] podcast) and William (Bill) DeMeritt (actor and writer) join Flixwatcher to review James' choice Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) is the fifth instalment in the Jurassic Park film series. Directed by J. A. (The Impossible) Bayona, Fallen Kingdom sees Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from the previous films. Dinosaurs are facing extinction (again) due to volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) testifies that the dinosaurs should be left to perish. However, John Hammond's former partner Sir Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) has other ideas and wants to clone the remaining dinosaurs under the guise of rescuing them. Cue Claire (Dallas Howard) recruiting former Velociraptor trainer Grady (Pratt) to help capture the last surviving Velociraptor. As with all the Jurassic Park films, wherever there are dinosaurs, things never go to plan. Despite there being more dinosaurs and more action Fallen Kingdom fails to match or even come close to being as good as Jurassic Park. Recommendability scores for Fallen Kingdom were not very high. Repeat viewing scores were helped a little by James having seen it five times at the cinema and slightly higher engagement scores give an overall rating of 3.34. The director of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom humanizes a gruesome real-life tale Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On October 13, 1972, a plane carrying 45 passengers and crew – 19 of whom were young rugby players – took off from Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay heading to Santiago, Chile. The plane never reached its destination. Adverse weather conditions caused Flight 571 to crash into a mountain ridge, ripping the aircraft in two over the Andes mountains – one of the most inhospitable places on earth. Those who didn't die immediately in the wreckage – the so-called lucky ones – faced unimaginable horror. For 72 days, these survivors, aged between 19 and 26, endured frostbite and an avalanche. They watched as, one by one, friends and teammates perished in the plummeting temperatures each night. Starving to death in this endless white abyss, the passengers of Flight 571 were forced to do the unthinkable to survive, resorting to eating the bodies of the deceased as a means of desperately clinging to life. You probably know all this, because the story of the Miracle in the Andes as it became known is a story that's been told many times before, in books, films, documentaries and TV shows. What happened – how 16 people not only survived, but forged their own rescue – is well-known. How it actually felt to be out there in the wilderness, though – the philosophical and spiritual conundrums the survivors faced – has never really been truly translated to screen until now. Society Of The Snow – directed and co-written by our guest today, the great J.A. Bayona – is a drama that finds transcendence in the true-life tale of Flight 571. Yes, the film abides by the facts of what went down in that frosty mountain range across those agonising 72 days – Bayona spent hundreds of hours interviewing the survivors before penning the movie's screenplay with his co-writers Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego. But more importantly, inspired by a great book – La Sociedad de la Nieve by Pablo Vierci – it takes a lyrical approach to the story. One bordering on the metaphysical, full of dialogues between the living and the dead. In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, JA tells us what it is about tales of people forced to confront the full might of nature that he finds himself drawn to as a storyteller (his previous films include tsunami drama The Impossible and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which had similar themes nature versus man). We talk about crafting the plane crash scene on the page, the bold decision he made involving the narrator of the tale and why the film doesn't end on a note of triumph but something more melancholy. If you haven't seen Society Of The Snow yet, be sure to hit pause now, watch on Netflix then come back as we dive into every detail. Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. I think we can all agree, that what the world really needs is more Jurassic sequels. And of course, we need sequels that can't decide if they are bad action movies, or bad horror movies. Enjoy this bad movie with us!
It might be the dumbest movie about dinosaurs ever made. Too bored (and, in Nicole's case, incensed) by the first one to bother talking about it, we parachute into the second entry in this ur legacy-franchise-sequel-reboot for all the adult babies that never let go of their childhoods. The dinosaurs are your friends. Your pals. They're literally puppies. They're pedophiles. They're living things just like us, and deserve to live (and exterminate various other species in the process). Come for the dinosaurs, stay for rage-mode Nicole, Science Facts™, the refinement of our critique of 'soy dialogue', and an extended discussion of pubic hair in Baldur'a Gate 3. Well, Chris Pratt rides a motorcycle alongside raptors and Bryce Dallas Howard outruns a T Rex, so we have our work cut out for us!Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPbEmail: bestoftherestpod@gmail.comSocial Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, FacebookBonus content: YoutubeTheme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: InstagramMusic by Mitch: Twitter, SoundCloudLogo by Alex Brinegar: https://beardodoesdesign.com/Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram Next week: Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom!

The crew returns after the holidays and a new year to take on Chris Pratt's, or should we say BD Wong's Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom.
This 5th entry in the Jurassic franchise sets the story following the closure of Jurassic World, where its dormant volcano, Mt. Sibo, has become active, threatening all life on Isla Nublar. Humankind debates whether the clone dinosaurs should be saved or return to extinction. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) has become a conservationist advocate for the Dinosaur Protection Group, feeling an overwhelming responsibility to save the dinos she once considered merely a commodity. After John Hammond's billionaire associate Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) is on his deathbed, his assistant, Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), pitches a plan to Claire to fund the relocation of the dinosaurs from Isla Nublar to a sanctuary island. Claire gathers a team including velociraptor whisperer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), super-hacker Franklin Webb (Justice Smith), and paleo-veterinarian Zia Rodriguez (Daniela Pineda). The team is stunned to discover find mercenaries on the island gathering dinosaurs to bring to the mainland for greedy, nefarious purposes.
