It's Die Hard on a runaway train! With the last stop now in sight, it's full steam ahead on the show this week as the boys attempt “to run this bitch down” (in the nicest possible way of course) by discussing Tony Scott's swaggering swansong UNSTOPPABLE (2010) in the context of disaster movies, Die Hard, and the action genre in general! When a massive freight train designated 777 accidentally escapes a Pennsylvania railyard under its own power, the authorities scramble to find a solution as the driverless locomotive increases its speed. This highly dangerous situation is yet further complicated when they become aware of 777's volatile chemical cargo, that effectively turns the runaway train into “a missile the size of the Chrysler building”…a missile that's now heading into inexorably into a heavily populated area. Fate and circumstances mean that two unlikely heroes – veteran train driver Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) and rookie conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine) – find themselves on a collision course with the errant vehicle – and with the help of canny yardmaster Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson), they hatch an audacious plan to try and stop this metallic monster from causing mass destruction in the area they all call home. In this thoughtful and emotive conversation, Phil and Liam discuss the film's importance both as the last film of an iconic artist, and as arguably the last pure action movie ever made…before the entire genre changed forever. The Lakers started on what could be the toughest road trip of the season—their first stop...in Houston for game one of two straight games against the Houston Rockets. A second-half adjustment by JJ Redick had constant double-teams on Kevin Durant, which helped LA to force 22 turnovers. And despite scoring only four points in the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lakers were able to come up with a late-game run keyed by Luka Doncic (36 points), Deandre Ayton (7 points, 11 rebounds), and Marcus Smart (a dagger three late in the fourth) to get an important Western Conference victory, 100-92 over the Rockets. The Lakers returned quickly from Denver on Friday as they faced off against the Indiana Pacers in a quick turnaround on Friday night. And on a day when most of the Lakers were feeling a bit fatigued, Luka Doncic (44 points, 9 rebounds) stepped up and put the team on his back, getting 22 points in the first quarter. This gave the Lakers a needed boost for the first three quarters as the Lakers got the early double-digit lead and never looked back in a 128-117 victory over the Pacers. The Lakers continued their march to the last quarter of the season with a matchup in the Mile High City as they faced off against the Denver Nuggets. But after falling behind 11-0 early and losing Deandre Ayton right after with knee soreness, the Lakers found themselves constantly fighting an uphill battle, getting to within three or four points, then letting Denver go on a big run. The Lakers celebrated Luka Doncic's birthday with a trip to the Bay Area as they ended the mini road trip in the confines of the Chase Center with a contest against the Golden State Warriors. And with a depleted Golden State roster on tap, the Lakers gave Luka a great present with an efficient LeBron James (22 points, 9 assists 7-13 shooting) and Austin Reaves (18 points 7-11 overall), a productive bench with Luke Kennard and Jake LaRavia (a combined 31 points on 7-13 from three), and the birthday boy himself (26 points, 8 assists on 9-17 from the floor) blew out the Golden State candles himself putting the finishing touches with a hot streak from three to start the second half as the Lakers cruised to a lead more than thirty points and finished up with an easy 129-101 victory over the Warriors.
