Hello everyone and welcome to Some Like It Scott's latest Countdown miniseries: the 007 Countdown. This time, in honor of the upcoming release of the 25th film in the franchise, NO TIME TO DIE, Scott, Scott, and Jay will be revisiting an abridged selection of 007 films to see how James Bond has evolved across decades, storylines, directors, and actors. Starting with the legendary performances of Sean Connery in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER and ending with the full retinue of Daniel Craig's performances across the last decade and a half, the countdown crew will give their thoughts on 10 different Bond films. Join us each week as we dissect a different Bond film!   On the penultimate tenth episode of the countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay revisit Craig's 4th, Sam Mendes's 2nd behind the camera, and the most recent of the Bond movies in SPECTRE. SPECTRE opens with Bond on a "vacation" in Mexico City during the city's infamous Day of the Dead festival and parade. All too quickly it becomes clear that Bond is not really on vacation though, as he stalks a mysterious target, Marco Sciarra (Alessandro Cremona) to a rendezvous with other locals and attempts to assassinate him. Though he fails in his first attempt, the ensuing foot chase does ultimately end in success for 007, only for him to return to England and be placed on administrative leave by Ralph Fiennes's new M, under scrutiny from government oversight committees, specifically Max Denbigh or "C" (Andrew Scott), the head of MI5, who are trying to shut down the 00-program. Why did Bond risk so much in Mexico City you might ask? Because Judi Dench's belated M left him a message from beyond the grave: assassinate Sciarra and "don't miss the funeral". Of course, Bond does not follow M's instructions and instead heads to Rome for Sciarra's funeral, where the web of shady businessmen, spies, and terrorists that have dogged his past finally begins to unravel. As always, the countdown crew give their thoughts on all of it, including whether Sam Mendes is able to equal his first outing, whether Daniel Craig has overstayed his welcome as Bond, and whether the 007 franchise has simply run out of ideas.

On the ninth episode of the countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay take a trip back to Bond's roots, in Daniel Craig's third outing as the famed secret agent in SKYFALL. SKYFALL picks up some time after the events of QUANTUM OF SOLACE, and finds Bond once again on a mission, this time in Istanbul to stop a mercenary who has stolen an MI6 hard drive with the names of all active British intelligence agents undercover around the globe. Bond's pursuit of the mercenary through the Turkish city culminates with a fistfight on top of a moving train that leaves 007 in free fall thanks to an errant bullet from fellow field operative, Eve (Naomie Harris), and the hard drive in the wrong hands. With Bond nowhere to be found, M (Judi Dench, one last time) and MI6 must pick up the pieces of the disastrous op, facing blowback at home from government oversight committees, and abroad when a shadowy figure taunts M for her sins, detonating a bomb at MI6 while she's not there, and threatens to decode the hard drive and start releasing the identities of undercover agents. As news of the terrorist attack reaches the far-flung shores where Bond has sought refuse since being shot in Istanbul, 007 decides to report for duty and is sent all the way to China to follow leads for the mysterious figure threatening fellow British agents. As always, the countdown crew give their thoughts on all of it, including whether SKYFALL has the ultimate Bond girl, whether the persistent theme of failure throughout the Craig Bond films continues to hold interest, and whether Sam Mendes's particularly style and flare translates well to the 007 franchise.

Join us each week as we dissect a different Bond film!   On the eighth episode of the countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay pick up right where the previous episode left off, with the direct sequel to Daniel Craig's first outing, QUANTUM OF SOLACE. QUANTUM OF SOLACE barely misses a beat in picking the story back up, as Craig's Bond is racing the famous Aston Martin down a mountain road after kidnapping Mr. White at the end of CASINO ROYALE. Ultimately managing to outrun and outsmart his pursuers, he returns to the MI6 Siena, Italy safehouse. During interrogation, however, it is revealed that White's organization, the mysterious group known only as Quantum, has tendrils stretching all the way into MI6 itself. M's personal bodyguard turns double-agent, makes an attempt on Bond's and M's lives, and then attempts to escape, only for Bond to pursue on-foot. During the pursuit, White also escapes, and that sets events in motion for Bond to once again trot across the globe to learn more about Quantum and to find those he deems responsible for Vesper's death. The countdown crew give their thoughts on all of it, including whether QUANTUM OF SOLACE lives up to the extremely high bar set by CASINO ROYALE, whether the raw emotion of Craig's debut is carried through to his sophomore outing, and whether the performances of Craig, Judi Dench, and all the newcomers impress.

Join us each week as we dissect a different Bond film!   On the seventh episode of the countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay revisit the first entry in the latest version of Bond: the Daniel Craig-starrer, CASINO ROYALE. Directed by Martin Campbell, CASINO ROYALE serves not only as a starting point for Craig's new version of Bond, but also as a soft reboot for the franchise as a whole. The outset of the film shows how Bond achieved his 00-status, and two kills later, the journey fast-forwards to Madagascar for an epic chase scene where Bond is tracking a bomb-maker connected to a terrorist cell plotting an attack on a yet-to-be-determined location. Bond follows a lead to the Bahamas, where he encounters a corrupt Greek official, Alex Dimitrios (Simon Abkarian), whom he believes is the key to discovering the planned terrorist attack. Bond's adventures continue from there and ultimately involve evolved Bond girl Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) and terrorist financier Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) with ties to a wider criminal organization. The countdown crew give their thoughts on all of it, including Craig's new "modern" version of Bond, the progress in the Bond girl department, and whether this different approach to a Bond spy film works.

As is customary, GOLDENEYE opens with a stunt-laden introduction for the new Bond, infiltrating a Soviet chemical weapons facility run by a man named Colonel Ourumov (Gottfried John) on a top-secret mission in 1986. 007 links up with 006, Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean), but the latter is captured and killed, as Bond escapes. Fast forward 9 years to 1995, and the Soviet Union has now dissolved, and Bond attempts to prevent a member of the Janus Crime Syndicate, the oh-so-cleverly named Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), from stealing a helicopter capable of surviving EMP bursts. Shortly thereafter, a Siberian radar facility comes under attack as old enemy Colonel Ourumov uses the EMP-resistant helicopter to steal a space-based Soviet weapon capable of firing a targeted nuclear EMP blast, simply called GoldenEye. Ourumov and Onatopp destroy the facility and escape safely in their helicopter, spawning a hot pursuit from Siberia to Cuba with quite a few shocking discoveries along the way. After completing his mission, he flies to Miami for a short holiday, only to be spoiled with the assignment of observing bullion dealer, Gert Fröbe's Auric Goldfinger, who is vacationing at the same hotel. It doesn't take Bond long to discover some of Goldfinger's less illicit, but still shady dealings, cheating at a high-stakes game of gin rummy via his employee, Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton). Bond foils Goldfinger's cheating and seduces Jill, only to be knocked unconscious in his room by Goldfinger's manservant, Oddjob (Harold Sakata).
