Learning to NEVER move away from the hope of the Gospel, which will keep us grounded and settled IN the Faith
For each of us there was a time when we were not “in Christ.” The Bible uses language to describe the reality of this separation and death. Here in Colossians Paul tells us that we were “alienated” and “hostile.” But, although we were “evil in our deeds,” the Bible will also remind us that there has been a reconciliation through His body and His flesh. So, the question is, “what is more powerful? Our evil deeds, or the sacrifice of His body and His flesh?” According to Paul, the result is the redemption of our souls — we are presented as holy! Paul reminds us that our salvation came entirely from the grace of God… through the work of Christ… and so, our deeds aren’t earning it, but proving it true... So we should make every effort to live our life in a way that reflects the ONE who died to save us… not to earn His love, but because of His love.

How does the Christ reconcile you to God and make you able to sit once again in his full presence?
The Gospel refers to the person and work of Christ applied to sinners. In the previous verses, 1:15-20, the apostle Paul has celebrated Jesus in gloriously exalted language, and in today’s passage he applies the truth of Christ’s preeminence in all things to the situation of us as individuals. Join us as Pastor Ben dives into these verses to give us a Gospel primer!

Our mission at Community Church of Greenwood is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live in full devotion to Him. We want to help people far from God to experience new life in Jesus Christ.
Accepting Christ as our Savior reconciles us to Him.
While Paul is insistent that Jesus Christ has reconciled all things to himself, both the things in heaven and on earth, he is just as insistent that such a cosmic act has come to make an impact in Colossae. Paul provides insight into that reconciliation in Colossians 1:21-23, as well as a warning for the young congregation.

If we don’t truly believe what Paul teaches in Col. 1:21-23, that when we receive Jesus as our Savior we become holy, spotless, and without accusation in God’s eye, then we are going to have a tendency to struggle with a guilty conscience. In an attempt to cope, many people who struggle with a guilty conscience wind up developing their own self-made religious activities and beliefs. In addition, they often struggle with self-abasement and harsh treatment of self. The goal of this message is to expose and heal any of these patterns that exist in our lives.

We believe Jesus Christ, in giving His ALL, can reconcile ALL, 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— Colossians 1:21-22 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:1-5 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:9-11 and it is in this that ALL of our hopes rest. 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. Colossians 1:23 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Titus 2:11-14
Jesus wants us to stand firm in the faith and not walk away. The hope of heaven awaits us if we continue in the faith (Col. 1:23). While we are assured that Christ does not lose those who belong to Him, He also warns us to not fall away.

To understand the good news of the gospel, we must first understand the bad news. Jesus saves us where we are in our sin and brokenness. Colossians 1:21-23 reveals the new identity and hope that Christ brings.
Christ has reconciled us to presented to God as holy, blameless and above reproach.
