Sunday, October 23, 2022 - The title of this week's message is "Heaven's Perspective of Earth." One may not appreciate that Heaven has a vested interest in Earth. The reason is, everything about Heaven, except for God, depends on what happens on earth. Think about it this way, no one takes anything with them when they die. Whether a person is welcomed in Heaven or destined to suffer in Hell, they take nothing with them other than what they sent ahead while they were alive. This means Heaven's economic system begins first with the "free gift of God's saving Grace and Mercy" and secondly with the "works of men while they live on earth." When we understand Heaven's perspective like this, it helps us appreciate why we need to work hard in the Kingdom of God while we have opportunities on earth. As we set our eyes on Heavenly things, it also helps us live peacefully while going through the hard knocks of life, knowing that we are simply passing through this life as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob recognized. This is where the "peace that passeth all understanding" comes from. Worship and study with us as we nurture Heaven's tug on our heartstrings... Be blessed

Corn-field mazes have become popular tourist attractions. People will pay for the experience of trying to navigate their way through a labyrinth formed in a farmer’s field. Life can be like that maze. We take wrong turns that lead to a dead end. We have to turn around and go back to find the right path. Some of us have forgotten where we are going. Abraham did not know where he was going, but he trusted God. He knew that his ultimate destination was somewhere higher than what he could see. He knew the destination was worth the effort and the journey he walked on earth. Mazes are easier to solve if you start at the end. In the maze of life, heaven is our goal, and working backward from there is the key. Once we get our mind focused on the end, life is so much easier. If we keep our eyes on the goal, the twists, turns, and dead ends of life are easier to handle.

In this fourth and final sermon of Pastor Craig's response to our VISION 2020 sermon series, he returned to Hebrews 11:8-16 again. In the previous three sermons, we see several truths: 1. We must admit that we're strangers in this world. 2. We are temporary here. 3. We must focus on the future. 4. We must not look back; we must fix our eyes on Christ. Everyone is susceptible to the backward pull. Jesus himself was tempted in the desert to "look back." But he did NOT look back. He set his face like flint toward Jerusalem and the cross.

That is certainly true. However, a relationship with God on this earth is only the beginning. We were actually made for an eternal relationship. As Christians we believe that the journey to eternity is our ultimate destiny.

Hebrews 11 is a powerful book. I contains such a clear example of what faith can do in our lives. We need to be extremely careful about or faith. Just as the physical body can become sick, it is possible for our faith to become sick. Every time we come to the house of God, we strengthen our faith. Our faith will not be nurtured in the world, but in the house of God we receive strength. If we take care of our faith, our faith will take care of us. Life will not be perfect. We must not let life trip us up or grow weary of walking by faith. In our text, They made it plain, that in spite of their lack of success, they refused to go back. It was because of this faith that God said "I am not ashamed to be called their God." God did not identify with them because they were perfect, but because of their faith. It is not the amount of, but rather that they refused to abandon their faith. They had the opportunity to go back, but they chose to stay with the promise. God will honor that kind of faith. How many go back when the going gets tough. It is easy to give up. People give up on marriages, careers, relationships and even living for God. God does not give explanations for things that come into our life. Even Jesus ask questions on the cross. There is no indication that that question was ever answered. If God said it, it will be. If He promised it, it will come to pass. We must make it clear that we are people of faith. No matter what happens, God is in control. Hold on to faith. What is our life saying about what we believe? Are we living in a way that others will see our faith. Not just in the words we use, but how we react to life and all that it brings. We don't have to have all the answers and not everything has to be made clear to us. There are some things that will never be made clear. No matter what pressure we may experience, we maintain our faith. We must make it clear.
