Peter’s need for repentance showed how we need time to turn around like the people of Ninevah or the Israelites wandering in the desert
Sometimes we get to choose the crosses we bear. At other times, our crosses choose us. But either way, we’d best bend down, take our cross up into our arms, place it over our shoulders, and begin our walk with it, because in God’s infinite wisdom, God has designed it to fit us, like a tailor designs a suit or dress and hangs it in our closet, awaiting our donning of it. Rev. Larry Hayward preaches on the Second Sunday in Lent. The Scripture lesson is Mark 8:27-38.

Who Do You Say I Am? Mark 8:27-38 Rev Keith Morrison
Jesus invited men to follow Him, to learn from Him, to observe and emulate Him. Jesus sent them out to practice what He was teaching them and brought them back together to coach and correct. In this message we learn that Jesus’s invitation to follow is also an invitation to go through all of what He went through – to suffer, to die, to live again, and to receive a reward. To follow Jesus we must die to ourselves, give up control, and allow Him to live through us. Jesus invites you to Die With Me.

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost al things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ... -Philippians 3:7-8

"Who do you say that I am?"
Continuing with Mark's Gospel, Pastor John outlines how Jesus' asks his disciples who they say that he is and how He is confident and assured about his identity and destiny.
Are you prepared to follow Him to the cross?
I believe our passage to be the key passage, the pivotal passage of the Gospel of Mark. We are going to hear words from Jesus that must ring in our ears everyday, all day.
Many people understand why Jesus had to go to the cross, but what does it mean to follow him and also carry our cross?
