A Baptism service today, Ps. Paul is bringing the message from Romans 6:11-23 “Dying To Live”.
Pastor Becky teaches out of Romans 6 and reminds us that our old nature was crucified with Christ—who we were before Jesus is not who we are now. As we reckon the old man dead and obey our new Master, we step into the freedom and new life He's given us.
Pastor Ty Neal By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. Benjamin Franklin When it's time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived. Henry David Thoreau Big Idea: Death teaches us how to live. Revelation 6:9Romans 12:1-2 1 . You are seen. Revelation 6:9 Isaiah 5:20 When our hearts are increasingly warmed by the gospel, our witness sounds less and less like the work of a lawyer and more like the songs of a poet.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is meant to transform our daily lives, not just be celebrated once a year. Living a resurrection life means experiencing freedom from sin's power and embracing new life in God. This transformation requires choosing between two masters: either sin rules your life, or God does. True freedom comes through submission to God, simplifying our lives by removing distractions, putting sinful habits to death, and actively serving others. The same resurrection power that raised Jesus is available to transform how we live each day, helping us become who God created us to be.
In this episode, I talk to Andy Chaleff about his book Dying to Live, which explores our societal discomfort with death and how confronting mortality can lead to a more meaningful life. We discuss the "3 AM panic" of existential dread, the concept of "little deaths" as moments of letting go of identity and attachment, and the importance of "sitting with the question" rather than seeking definitive answers. Andy shares practical insights on how embracing uncertainty and practicing presence, even in difficult moments, can help us live more fully and authentically, transforming our relationship with life by accepting the inevitability of death.Explore more at eightfoldpath.com: full transcripts, guided meditations, courses, and Noah AI, an AI you can chat with about any episode or teaching. The invitation of Jesus is not to become a Christian, but to become a disciple, to walk in His steps: learning to be with Him, become like Him, and do what He did. This message, the first in the series called In His Steps: Practicing the Way of Jesus, challenges the idea of casual faith and calls us into true discipleship—learning to walk in the way of Jesus. Following Christ means more than knowing about Him; it means surrendering our own way, taking up our cross daily, and allowing our lives to be shaped by His truth and His practices. Watch to see what the call to follow Jesus requires.Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=H1WeYgySZxSmall Group Discussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/111PTW1.pdfFind us on:YouTube: YouTube.com/TheHarborInstagram: Instagram.com/TheHarbor_lifeFacebook: Facebook.com/TheHarbordotlifeWebsite: https://www.TheHarbor.lifeWatch/listen on The Harbor AppNew episode every week!

The Catholic Archbishop of Birmingham, the Most Reverend Bernard Longley, opens our discussion, and the Right Reverend Patrick McKinney, Bishop of Nottingham and Lead Bishop for Interreligious Dialogue for the Catholic Church in England and Wales, offers concluding reflections.Whether you're a healthcare professional, someone supporting a loved one through their final journey, or simply interested in how different traditions approach this universal human experience, this conversation offers wisdom, compassion, and practical insights.
Matthew 2:1-12 On this Epiphany Sunday Susan began with a portrayal of the wise men's perspective crafted by Frederick Buechner. Why did the magi follow the star to where Jesus was? "To be wise is to be eternally curious." Is to live without Christ the real death, and to die with him the only life? Jesus invites us to pick up our cross; not an appealing image... When we take up the cross we empty our hands and bid goodbye to our old lives, both good and bad. Paul is an example of giving up his old life with much esteem, to follow Christ. When we die unto Christ, we surrender our identities. Pay attention to the names you call yourself and see what they say about your identity. What is there that you need to surrender to fully embrace your new identity?

Rev. Charley Reeb will be preaching on John 12:24-25.
The sermon centers on the pivotal moment in Jesus's ministry as He enters Jerusalem, marking the beginning of His final week, where the crowd's enthusiastic welcome contrasts sharply with the religious leaders' growing hostility and the ultimate rejection of His true identity as a spiritual Savior rather than an earthly king. Through the contrasting responses of Mary, who anoints Jesus in humble worship, and Judas, who scorns her act out of greed, the text reveals the fundamental dichotomy between genuine faith and self-serving rejection, culminating in the surprising arrival of Gentile seekers who symbolize the broader mission of salvation beyond Israel. Jesus responds to their request not with immediate access but with a profound declaration that His glorification comes through death, using the parable of the grain of wheat to illustrate that true life is found only through self-denial and sacrificial obedience. The passage calls believers to a radical discipleship defined not by self-preservation but by dying to the flesh, following Christ faithfully, and embracing a life of service that leads to eternal life and divine honor, all grounded in the redemptive necessity of Christ's crucifixion.
Reader: Danita O'Loughlin Preacher: Josh Hennessy This is week two of a two part mini-series titled “Dying To Live”. Last week Josh spoke of the worldy ideals we need to let die in order to live for Christ - worldly possessions, worldly dignity and worldly identity. Today Josh tells us what we should replace these ideals with. We should build treasures for heaven, become fools for Christ and live in our identity as children of God and heirs with Jesus in the kingdom. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. In this episode, Paul boasts in the cross rather than in keeping the law! We are reminded that to lose our life is to find it!

Reader: Jacob Elzo Preacher: Josh Hennessy Matt 13:44-46 In this two part mini-series, Josh speaks to us about Dying To Live. As christians, we should not have a fear of death because Jesus has conquered death and has promised us a better everlasting life after this one. However, we don't always live like this. We often cling onto this life out of fear of death, almost like we do not believe the truth promised by God. Josh challenges us on the things that we hold too tightly, which we need to let die in order to live this life (and the next) to the fullest. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make allbecau of life all about Jesus.
