In this powerful message from Pastor Karl, we journey beyond the manger to discover the timeless roots of Christmas in the Garden of Eden. Christmas is far more than a seasonal vibe—it's the profound story of God's unchanging love, revealed through proximity, provision, and loving parameters.Drawing parallels between Eden and Bethlehem, Pastor Karl shows how God has always pursued us: walking closely with humanity, generously providing what we cannot obtain ourselves, and setting protective boundaries for our good. Yet, from the beginning, humanity has often rejected this love, doubting God's goodness and choosing our own way.The heart of the gospel shines through as Pastor Karl reminds us that even in our rejection, God's love pursues and covers us—first promised in Genesis with the crushing of the serpent's head through the seed of the woman, and perfectly fulfilled in the incarnation of Jesus, Emmanuel, "God with us."This message challenges us: Will we embrace not just the warmth of Christmas, but the weighty claims of Christmas—God's call to love Him fully with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength through belonging to His family, becoming like Christ, giving generously, and going on mission?A stirring reminder that God's everlasting love didn't begin in Bethlehem—it was set in motion from the very beginning, for you and me.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

In this stirring and deeply encouraging Advent message, Pastor Karl continues the series The King Has Come with a raw and life-giving exploration of the second great gift Jesus brings: peace.Turning to the familiar yet profound scene in Luke 2:8–20, Pastor Karl invites us into the midnight terror of ordinary shepherds—suddenly confronted by the blinding glory of God—and shows how the very first words from heaven that night were not “Merry Christmas,” but “Fear not.” That first Christmas did not begin with sentimental calm; it began with paralyzing, mega-fear. And right there, in the middle of stacked-on-stacked fear, the angel announced good news of great joy: a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord, the Prince of Peace. With pastoral tenderness and unflinching honesty, Pastor Karl unmasks fear as the mortal enemy of peace—how it magnifies threats, shrinks our view of God, and paints our future in colors darker than God ever intended. Yet the gospel is stronger: peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of a Person. Peace is not something Jesus gives; peace is who Jesus is—and He gives Himself.Through the shepherds' journey from terror to testimony, we're given clear, scriptural paths out of fear and into the unshakable peace of Christ: speaking God's truth over fear's lies, refusing to agree with the spirit of fear, drawing near to Jesus through spiritual disciplines, and taking bold steps of obedience that move us against comfort and toward surrender. This is a word for everyone whose heart has been ruled by anxiety, worst-case scenarios, or the quiet fears that steal joy—especially in this season. A tender yet urgent call to stop trusting the unknown future to our own control and start trusting it to the known God who entered our fear as a baby in a manger.Because the King has come, fear does not get the final word. Peace does. And when the Prince of Peace takes over a life, what spills out is no longer fear—but praise, testimony, and unshakable confidence in the goodness of God.Essential listening for anyone who longs to trade fear for the peace that passes all understanding this Christmas.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Set against the historical backdrop of Caesarea Philippi, a location steeped in ancient ties to the Greek god Pan, our Gospel is grounded in real-world settings. In addition to the geography, we'll examine the pivotal interaction between Jesus and Peter, a moment that transitions the Gospel of Mark from revealing Jesus's identity to uncovering his salvific destiny. Finally, examination of a single Greek word will reveal the unavoidable necessity of God's plan while offering solace that, even in suffering, God's purpose will prevail.

MATTHEW HENRY COMPLETE COMMENTARY Mark 8:34-38 Frequent notice is taken of the great flocking there was to Christ for help in various cases. All are concerned to know this, if they expect him to heal their souls. They must not indulge the ease of the body. As the happiness of heaven with Christ, is enough to make up for the loss of life itself for him, so the gain of all the world in sin, will not make up for the ruin of the soul by sin. And there is a day coming, when the cause of Christ will appear as glorious, as some now think it mean and contemptible. May we think of that season, and view every earthly object as we shall do at that great day.

David is the man who has defended Israel from invaders even while Saul was still king, and Saul hated David! Saul feared David! So it is likely that this Amalekite believes the hatred is reciprocated. This man likely thinks that he can receive a reward from the new, up-and-coming king. He just did him a favor, and has a crown and armband to prove it - he “killed” Saul! His reward is not what he expects though...

The last of our Deny Self series. This last month we've looked at denying ourselves through Paul's eyes. He wrote a wonderful, joyous letter to a church in Philippi. It was chock full of hope and good will. He was ecstatic for what God was doing for them and for him. All that positivity poured out of him as he sat shackled to two guards while he was in prison. That's crazy! He didn't have to pursue happiness in a traditional way. God gave him all that he needed and he found in in pursuing Christ.

Paul had every right to boast in the good things he had done. He had quite the resume. However, when he compared it to the glory of knowing God, he said it was all worthless. Do you consider your relationship with Christ to be the best thing in your life? It can be challenging to look at your life and see that you've not really put Jesus first. You may have every desire to do so, but good stuff just gets in the way. You have a job. A family. Hobbies. "Me" time. And all of these things are good, they're just not Jesus. They are worthless compared to the best thing. Compared to Jesus.

Jesus was the greatest hero of all time. He was the only one who truly gave everything to help others. Philippians 2 says that he "emptied" himself. Let's face it: we struggle with self-denial. Our philosophy in this country is to get what's coming to you and hopefully it is more than the next guy. We don't deny ourselves much of anything. But God called us to live a different life. Christ taught us a better way to live. His example is one of true sacrifice and self-denial. What would our lives look like if we really began to think of others before we thought of ourselves?

“Uncomfortable: The Cost of Following Jesus – Deny Yourself” Main Scripture:  Mark 8:34 NLT Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower (disciple), you must give up your own way (deny yourself), take up your cross, and follow me. Big Idea: We have to deny ourselves. Matthew 8:18-22 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around Him, He instructed His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then one of the teachers of religious law said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever You go.” 20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and the birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay His head.” 21 Another one of His disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus told Him, “Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.” Why Deny? Proverbs 27: 20-21 20 Just as Death (Sheol/Hell) and Destruction (Abaddon) are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied. 21 Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.  Jeremiah 17:9 9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? What does self-denial look like? Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. Mark 1:15 15 “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” Identifying with the Lord Jesus Philippians 2: 5-11 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.7 Instead, He gave up his divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, 8 He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
