What most people missed is the fine print: the Bank described future hikes as "consecutive increases" while easing got a single "cut" — and central bankers choose those words deliberately. In the full episode, I break down why the bond market is pricing a hike by December, and why fixed-leaning terms now model out cheapest even if hikes don't arrive until 2028. Today, Les, Jess, Morgan, Matt, and Marc examine what to expect — and what to be skeptical of — as President Trump travels to China this week for a face-to-face meeting with Xi Jinping on Thursday. The summit follows their last encounter in the fall, but this time on Chinese soil, with trade and economic tensions dominating the agenda even as flashpoint issues like Taiwan and Iran linger at the margins. Expectations in Washington are deliberately low, and the pattern of Beijing treating agreements as temporary pauses rather than binding commitments remains a live concern. Will Xi use the meeting to press Trump on ending the Iran conflict to protect China's oil supplies, and how does that square with Beijing's simultaneous support for Iran's nuclear program? Will national security issues get serious airtime or be quietly traded away for economic wins? Given China's track record of opacity and broken promises, from trade deals to the Spratly Islands, how should the Trump administration distinguish genuine progress from the appearance of it? Relebogile Mabotja speaks to consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler about the hidden terms and conditions that can leave consumers out of pocket. First, they unpack Caitlin’s frustrating Booking.com experience. She booked five Emirates flights through her husband’s Booking.com account for travel between 4 and 9 April. On 18 March, Emirates announced that customers with departures between 1 and 15 April could apply for full refunds on cancelled flights but securing that refund proved far from straightforward. They also dive into the controversial “stain exclusion” clauses used in mattress warranties. 702 Afternoons with Relebogile Mabotja is broadcast live on Johannesburg based talk radio station 702 every weekday afternoon. Is following Jesus really free, or are there hidden expectations? In Acts 15, the early church faced a critical question: Is faith in Jesus enough, or do we need to add more? US results season opens with Goldman Sachs and Johnson & Johnson both beating expectations — but the more interesting story is what those results don't show yet: the full impact of Middle East conflict and Trump's drug pricing pressure. Simon also unpacks South Africa's looming fuel crisis and makes the economic case for working from home, a new 100% offshore ETF listing on the JSE from ETFSA, and an ASP Isotopes update for those holding a speculative position. FNB's FCA-mandated R11.9bn provision for undisclosed UK vehicle finance commissions gets a full breakdown, as does the nuanced reality of the Straits of Hormuz "blockade" — it has T's and C's. Sleep fixes are everywhere—magnesium, melatonin, mouth taping, CPAP, turmeric, even that glass of wine before bed. And the truth is, most of them work. But what often gets left out is the fine print: the dosing, the timing, the patient selection, and the unintended consequences that can quietly turn a good idea into a bad outcome. In this episode we will: Examine how magnesium supplementation can drift into unsafe territory, especially in the setting of renal impairment Review the risks of mouth taping, including aspiration, skin complications, and worsening undiagnosed sleep apnea Explore the nuanced role of CPAP, including where it helps—and where it may not improve cardiovascular outcomes in milder cases Break down turmeric and “golden milk” trends, including dose creep and emerging concerns around hepatotoxicity Discuss the underappreciated risks of modafinil, including effects on contraception and potential teratogenicity Provide a clear-eyed look at hypnotic medications and how they alter the perception of sleep more than sleep itself Clarify why melatonin is best understood as a circadian signal—not a sedative—and how mistiming can backfire Highlight additional “sleep fixes” like alcohol, naps, weighted blankets, and sleep trackers that come with their own caveatsOriginal intro music Vigilanteology by Abhinav Singh (copyright 2026) Original outro music Vigilanteology (reprise) by Abhinav Singh (copyright 2026)Produced by: Maeve WinterMusic by: Dr. Abhinav Singh (@sleep_vigilante), all rights reservedMoreTwitter: @drchriswinterIG: @drchriwinterThreads: @drchriswinterBluesky: @drchriswinterThe Sleep Solution and The Rested ChildThanks for listening and sleep well!

Dr. McDonald shares his perspective as a psychiatrist on how prolonged fear messaging, social pressure, and institutional narratives have influenced behavior, relationships, and individual autonomy. The discussion touches on the psychological impact of recent global events and what it means to live with integrity when cultural pressures push in the opposite direction. The conversation challenges listeners to think critically about courage, responsibility, and the role individuals play in restoring common sense and moral conviction in their families and communities. What You'll Hear in This Episode Why courage is a foundational virtue in both medicine and society The psychological effects of prolonged fear messaging How cultural narratives influence individual behavior and belief systems The role masculinity plays in leadership, protection, and responsibility Why questioning authority has become socially difficult The importance of moral clarity in chaotic cultural moments How individuals can reclaim agency and personal responsibility Key Takeaways Courage is not simply bravery in crisis — it is the willingness to speak truth when social pressure demands silence. Fear can be a powerful tool of social control when amplified by institutions and media. Cultural confusion around identity and responsibility can erode common sense decision-making. Strong families and communities depend on individuals willing to stand for principles even when it is uncomfortable. Restoring common sense begins with individuals reclaiming personal responsibility and moral courage. About Dr. Mark McDonald Dr. Mark McDonald is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in both child/adolescent and adult psychiatry, with additional training in psychoanalysis. His clinical work focuses on trauma, autism spectrum disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and mood disorders. For decades, conventional medical guidance has emphasized lowering cholesterol—often with statins—to reduce cardiovascular risk. Statins are widely prescribed and have been shown to reduce cardiovascular events and mortality in many high-risk populations. But emerging research is prompting a deeper conversation about lifestyle factors that may play an equally important role in health outcomes. In this episode, the hosts examine evidence suggesting that sunlight exposure may influence mortality through mechanisms such as vitamin D production, circadian rhythm regulation, and metabolic health. They discuss a large observational study from Sweden indicating that women with higher sun exposure lived longer than those who avoided sunlight—potentially rivaling the benefits attributed to some pharmaceutical interventions. The conversation challenges listeners to reconsider long-standing assumptions about cholesterol, statin therapy, and the role of sunlight in overall health. Rather than presenting a simple “sun vs statins” answer, the episode encourages critical thinking about lifestyle, environment, and how modern medicine balances prevention strategies with broader determinants of longevity. In this episode, Dr. Sheila Carroll—pediatrician, obesity medicine physician, and certified life coach—explores the psychological and cultural forces behind unhealthy weight narratives. Rather than focusing on numbers on the scale, she argues for a broader approach to health that includes mindset, family habits, emotional awareness, sleep, and environment. The discussion highlights how parents and physicians can shift from weight-centric thinking to sustainable lifestyle modeling that supports children's long-term physical and mental well-being.. May and Tim sit down with Nicole Laurent, a licensed mental health counselor who brings a fresh lens to treating psychological conditions through dietary intervention. Nicole walks listeners through why the ketogenic diet — more traditionally linked to seizure control — is gaining traction as a supportive therapy for mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, and brain fog. Through real client experiences and clinical insights, she maps a bridge between metabolic regulation and emotional balance, helping people see food not just as fuel but as a tool for neurological resilience. The conversation weaves practical takeaways — from how ketosis influences brain chemistry to integrating keto with traditional therapy — all while challenging conventional treatment boundaries. Welcome to another wild and wacky instlalment of Mondays With Macron. This week it's all about the petty complaints! Ron gets called a scammer by one man who then proceeds to tell his life story, one lady dedicates a hell of a lot of her time and energy into getting some free credit from a discount makeup retailer, one man is not happy about his slightly late package, Bob causes mayhem in The Manhole, Scoby gets himself a fancy new 3D printer to make certain things with, one man is very happy to wait forever for his sunglasses lenses and we have a long discussion with a man who's life has been totally ruined by a lack of BBQ sauce. Oh and we invited ourselves into a few more meetings too where we are still differently welcomed. Thank you to all the people that listened live on YouTube and everyone checking out our podcast. I love you very much and keep it locked to macronshow.com where Ron will be doing more supporter's shows!
Dr. Susan Landers joins the conversation to dismantle the myth of the “supermom.” Drawing from her decades as a neonatologist and mother of three, she explains that success for working mothers isn't about endurance — it's about infrastructure. From spouses and childcare to mentorship and emotional reinforcement, Dr. Landers makes a compelling case that support systems are not optional add-ons. They are the foundation. Without them, burnout is predictable. With them, fulfillment becomes sustainable. GET SOCIAL WITH US!
In this episode of BS Free MD, Walt Heyer shares his personal history, including childhood adversity, substance use, and the path that led him to medically transition and later reverse course. He argues that “affirmation-first” models in therapy and medicine often skip deeper assessment and fail to address root causes like abuse, PTSD, anxiety/depression, autism traits, or other psychological distress. Drs. May and Tim discuss how rapidly rising youth identification trends may be influenced by peer dynamics and online content, and they emphasize the need for careful evaluation, family involvement, and ethical guardrails—especially when irreversible medical decisions are involved. Whether putting a downpayment on a house, buying a car, or adopting a life insurance policy, you are asked to sign your name and agree to all the fine print. So much fine print! With such documents there are pages and pages of legal expectations and ramifications. It is all overwhelming at the moment and the best we can do in a few minutes is to briefly skim the headings to get a vague idea of what it is we are agreeing to. Names are signed in the hope that this will not come back to bite us. Agreeing to keep God’s law is similar. On the surface, God’s law might look simple. I mean, there are only ten commandments, right? But the more we dig into the fine print; we realize that there is much more than meets the eye. Even a quick perusal of God’s law to us in the Bible shows that we are held accountable for even our thoughts, in addition to our words and actions. Things like doubt and worry leave us just as culpable as theft or murder. It soon becomes evident that there is no way we can perfectly hold up our end of the bargain. Thankfully, we have someone who did it for us. Jesus knew all the demands of God’s law, and he signed his name on the dotted line of our contract. And then he was born into this world to take our place and to do the work of holding up our end of the bargain. He even did it perfectly! He never once sinned. He also gave his life in our place to pay the price that was demanded of us for the times we had broken the contract. Risk analysis rarely shows up in wellness conversations—but it should. Emma Tekstra brings an actuary's eye to health, questioning why modern medicine excels at intervention yet struggles with prevention. From pharmaceutical incentives to lifestyle tradeoffs we'd rather ignore, this conversation strips wellness down to first principles: data over dogma, accountability over convenience, and long-term human flourishing over short-term fixes. A pragmatic, sometimes uncomfortable rethink of what it actually means to be healthy.GET SOCIAL WITH US!

Why do some TikTok Shops explode… and others die in 90 days? This episode breaks down the foundational moves most sellers skip and the fixes that change everything. TikTok Shop isn't “Amazon with videos”—it's entertainment first, shopping second. In this TikTok Thursday episode, TikTok Shop strategist Michelle Barnum-Smith explains the non-negotiable foundations sellers need in 2026, whether you're launching from scratch or trying to scale what you already started. The big mindset shift: people open TikTok to scroll, not to search-find-and-buy, so your strategy has to be built for discovery and impulse, not intent-based shopping. Michelle breaks down what actually wins on TikTok Shop: products that are instantly understandable, visually demonstrable, and ideally show a quick transformation or solve a clear pain point fast. She also calls out a costly structural mistake, having too many separate listings. Since most discovery happens through videos, every listing becomes its own content, affiliate, ads, and promo machine. Consolidating into a master listing with variants can protect momentum (especially when one variant goes out of stock) and make it easier to stack orders. From there, it's all about converting scrolls into purchases with a simple offer stack: free shipping, product discounts (like flash sales), clickable coupons, and TikTok Shop campaigns that add visibility and “deal” badging. She also warns against manually lowering the listing price because you lose the visual cues that help shoppers feel urgency. Finally, she outlines the content and ads engine that feeds the algorithm, optimizes for thumb-stopping hooks, watch time, completion, rewatches, and engagement, then iterates at volume and is prepared for a pay-to-play reality where ads and budget can be the difference-maker. This episode is a blunt, no-apologies examination of why healthcare feels expensive, impersonal, and broken—because it is operating exactly as designed. Tim argues that the system thrives on fear, inflated pricing, and the removal of consumer agency. From end-of-life care to insurance “psyops,” the conversation highlights how divorcing patients from cost, choice, and responsibility fuels inefficiency and moral hazard. The episode closes with a clear message: you don't fix this system from inside it—you opt out where you can, take ownership of your health, and stop feeding the machine.GET SOCIAL WITH US!
In this installment of DocTales with Cocktails, Tim and May open with a bizarre deep-dive into a flatulence study that claims women's farts smell worse than men's, riffing on hydrogen sulfide, “the king of farts,” and the absurdity of lab-based sniff testing. The tone turns sharper as they debate changes and implications around the childhood vaccine schedule, especially what “choice,” incentives, and liability could mean for pediatric practice and future lawsuits. They pivot back to “doctors behaving badly” with a chaotic story out of South Florida involving a physician arrested after an intoxicated roadside incident. Then it's back to comedy with a McDonald's McRib legal claim over allegedly misleading marketing. They wrap with a pointed “comment of the week” reacting to Oregon gun-law headlinesGET SOCIAL WITH US!

What starts as laughter over some of the most unhinged medical stories imaginable—think penis surgery in a Toyota Corolla and Ozempic for cats—slowly evolves into something deeper. Tim and May connect the dots between modern medicine, fear-based decision making, and the loss of personal responsibility, both in healthcare and in life. They revisit insights from their conversation with Dr. Peter McCullough on long COVID and real-world patient outcomes, then land the episode with a powerful reflection on fear versus love, faith, and why “safe” is an illusion. As always, it's irreverent, honest, thoughtful—and a reminder that medicine (and life) works best when we keep it BS free.GET SOCIAL WITH US!
This is my most honest end-of-year episode. I'm talking about what it really costs to stay open, why silence isn't maturity, and how I'm learning to trust myself as the narrator of my own experience. I share what I'm seeing in my work, why hard work still matters, and what people are actually looking for when they say they want more. If something in your life doesn't feel fine, this episode is an invitation to stop pretending it is.
