Look around. The world is broken, and not just in small ways. Everything dies. Everything decays. Everything falls apart. No matter how much we try to fix it, history keeps proving that we cannot escape corruption, suffering, and death. But this isn’t just bad luck, it’s not random. The chaos, pain, deep ache inside every human heart all trace back to a single moment, a single man. And everything that was lost—everything sin has stolen—can only be restored by 1 man. Today, we’re not just asking why the world is this way. We’re asking where you stand in it. Because whether you realize it or not, your entire life is bound to 1 of 2 men. One brought sin, the other salvation. One brings death, the other gives life. One man ruins, one man restores. In the end, you’re either in Adam, or in Christ.

If you have read ahead in Romans 5 to the verses we will study this week, you probably noticed that there is a significant difference between verses 12-21 and verses 1-11. A few years back, the deacon body set out to memorize Romans 5. The first eleven verses were no problem. The last nine were incredibly difficult, not just to memorize, but also to understand. I even had the thought this week that I should have assigned these verses to Pastor Ryan, and then we could have just marched into Romans 6 this weekend. But, while these verses may be difficult to understand, their value cannot be understated. These verses are foundational to Christian thinking and Christian living. They help us to understand how God saves sinners and how what one man did on a cross has brought justification, life and salvation to a multitude of people. Understanding these verses will bring you into a greater appreciation of the magnitude of the salvation that is ours through faith in Christ.

There is nothing of value we bring to the table for salvation. But we do have to accept the gift. We have our sin nature and our personal sin. They're two sides of the same coin. We are prone to sin. We are hell bound, born in sin. We're in trouble as people because of our sin nature. The blood is controlled by the father when new life is created. Jesus didn't have the blood from a human father.

Part 9, Romans 5:12-21. This passage has a lot of 50¢ words, and it can be easy to miss why Paul explains how Sin & Death, Gift & Life came into the world. Simply put, so we can have power to live, truly live, today.

In today's message, Pastor Marc Sharp begins a series on the major characters from Genesis (1st book in the Bible). This will include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. You will hear that God had a plan from the very beginning, and that God always finishes what he starts. You will also see Jesus in their lives, because he is the point of their stories. The book of Genesis is the book of beginnings. In it we find the story of creation and God's determination to have a people for himself, beginning with Adam and Eve.

The second half of Romans chapter five could be summed up as "Two men in a one act play." Paul uses the picture of "two Adams"; a first Adam, the Adam in the garden, bringing original sin into humanity, and then the "second Adam"--Jesus Christ--who provides a remedy for this sin. Listen in as Pastor Steve teaches through this important theological description of both our original sin, but also our justification through the death and resurrection of the "second Adam," our savior Jesus Christ.

Paul describes as all people being in Adam and under death and sin because of their union with Adam. Adam's on act brought death and sin into the world. Christ's one act brings righteousness and life for those who are "in Christ" and have a relationship with Christ.

What does it mean to live in forgiveness? We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, but we have been forgiven through Jesus’ death on the cross. Jesus took our punishment, though we didn’t deserve it, and it was freely given! Because of His sacrifice, we are now standing in a right relationship with God and are no longer subject to His judgement! The same way God forgave us, we are to also forgive others. Because we are God’s people, we must act like God in our relationships by practicing forgiveness.

The greatest gift is the indescribable gift of salvation in Christ Jesus. May we not just receive this gift, but live out of its abundance in every step that we take in life.
