Dave and Andrew, their mics wide open because it's time for Darmok! on this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez . . . Season 5 is in full gear as we reach one of the all time classic episodes! The Enterprise D is dispatched to take another swing at establishing communications with the Children of Tama, aka the Tamarians. Seems like previous attempts have failed, so why not send the man who schooled the Sheliak? Remember what a pain in the ass they were? Things get off to a rough start as neither side seems to understand the other. Then the Tamarians kidnap PIcard and send him planetside along with their own captain, who offers Picard a sharp blade and a smile. Captain and crew are seriously befuddled. Is this meant to be a captain-on-captain brawl ala Kirk vs. the Gorn? Or maybe some sort of group whittling project? Who knows? Certainly not Commander Riker and the rest of the crew who race to find a way to rescue Picard without starting a war. Will Data and Troi break the code and figure out how to communicate with the Tamarians? Will Geordi and Worf find a way to penetrate the field that prevents them from rescuing Picard? Is the bridge that chilly that Picard needs to wear a jacket indoors? Find out in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast.Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

A veszélyes sugárzás miatt kizárólag Data tud kapcsolatba lépni a felszínen található településsel, a közösség vezetője azonban határozottan elutasítja a távozás lehetőségét. Míg Data megpróbálja meggyőzni a helyieket, Picard kapitány időt szeretne nyerni az evakuálás lebonyolítására, a Sheliak ugyanis a teljes lakosság eltávolítására készül, mielőtt a kimenekítés megkezdődhetne. Somebody is always commanding when it comes to Starfleet, despite what the Great Bird thought, and of course it's Picard, no, wait – it's Number One! No, no, actually, it's Data! There's so much God-damned commanding! The Enterprise rolls up on a planet colonized by Earthies but wrongly so and their task is to remove these colonizers before the rightful heir of the planet (the Sheliak) show up to put down roots. For some reason Data alone is sent down to tell the inhabitants of Tao Signa Five that their asses are going to be rescued only to find that Signa Five inhabitants don't care about their asses that much. Meanwhile, up-top, Picard and company decide to head off the Sheliak and negotiate more time for evacuation. Picard has to Picard and God-bless-it he uses his councilor to council! Numbah One shouts orders at the robot they sent to negotiate the evac and Data has to posit-ronally figure out how to evacuate a planet of reluctant colonists all on his own – well, save for the help of his new flirty friend Marjory. Will Picard be able to stave off the impending doom of the colonists? Will Data be able to wake up after his ass gets zapped? Will Diana Troi finally get to shine? (Spoilers – this Empath shines!).
All hail the Sheliak! They want some pesky humans off their planet and Data gets his first away mission command. Let's all fall in love with Picard as he flexes his legal muscles. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thenerdtrekpodcast/support

Equality and Equal Rights. Equality in the United Federation of Planets is often taken for granted, that alien life forms are entitled to the same rights, privileges, and opportunities as humans. But to which beings does this equality extend? Humanoids? Only sentient life forms? Intelligent androids? Whales? Nanites? And equality in what sense? Political equality? Moral equality? Equality under the law? Equality of opportunity? In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Mike Morrison discuss the philosophy of equality in the Star Trek universe, from issues of accessibility for disabled Starfleet officers such as Commander LaForge (TNG) and Ensign Melora (DS9: "Melora"), to the rights of non-humanoid life forms, whether intelligent whales here on Earth (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) or non-human aliens such as the Horta (TOS: "The Devil in the Dark") and the Sheliak (TNG: "The Ensigns of Command"). When you're halfway to a new planet with a boatload of amorphous colonists only to find out that it's infested by human pests, what's a Sheliak director to do? Get a can of raid? Or talk tough about treaties with Starfleet's sexiest captain while wearing your blingiest wrap? Make the humies do the dirty work! Why is space poker like normal poker, but space chess is like crazy 3-d nonsense chess? Do they really dub "eh" at the end of Riker's lines in Canada rebroadcasts? What would Volkov do to protect a new world of customers? It's time for another round of "Guess that anatomy!"
