Currituck Beach Lighthouse, photo by Jeremy D’Entremont This is an edited version of an interview that was first heard in August 2021. Our guest is Meghan Agresto, manager of the Currituck Beach Light Station in Corolla, North Carolina. Currituck Beach Lighthouse—the northernmost of six light stations on the Outer Banks—began service on December 1, 1875. It was the last of the tall brick lighthouses built on the Outer Banks. The 162-foot-tall tower has an unpainted red brick exterior. After automation in 1937, the site fell into disrepair until the nonprofit Outer Banks Conservationists renovated the station's buildings and opened the site to the public in 1990. Meghan Agresto with Light Hearted host Jeremy D’Entremont Meghan Agresto has been the resident site manager of the Currituck Beach Light Station for more than 20 years. Meghan is the modern day lighthouse keeper, along with her partner, Luis Garcia. They raised two sons in a house on the property. When the boys were young, Corolla had no school of its own, so Meghan started a school for local children.
Growing Your Firm | Strategies for Accountants, CPA's, Bookkeepers , and Tax Professionals
Are you an accounting firm owner, managing partner, or CPA starting a firm who wants to achieve rapid growth without losing your sanity? In this episode of Growing Your Firm, host David Cristello sits down with Ben Curtis, co-founder and CEO of Good Measure Financial. Ben shares the inside story of how his firm transitioned from a slow, intentional build to adding 4 full-time employees in just 90 days during a massive growth spurt. Whether you are an operations manager looking for better workflow systems or a leader interested in the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), this episode provides a tactical roadmap for scaling a remote-first accounting business. What You'll Learn in This Episode: 1. The 50/50 Partnership Model: How Ben manages a firm with a "fractional" co-founder while maintaining clear role definitions and a healthy 50/50 ownership split. 2. EOS Lite for Accounting Firms: Why Ben uses the Vision Traction Organizer (VTO) and L10 meetings to keep his team of 10 aligned, and what parts of EOS he chose to discard. 3. Capacity & Production KPIs: A deep dive into why Good Measure Financial still tracks time and how they use Effective Hourly Rate and Actuals vs. Budget to protect profit margins. 4. Smoothing the Workflow: Tactics for implementing weekly workflows to eliminate the "peak and valley" stress of month-end close. 5. Founder-Led Sales & Relationship Deposits: How Ben's long-term "relational deposits" led to a flood of new clients from churches and nonprofits.
They start with basically talking about nothing and this quickly explodes into a conversation about West Coast drone attacks, government press protocol, and bingeing Netflix. It's a lot to do about nothing. Great Law. Less Legal. Law Done Lite!

But Dmitry's story goes far beyond 'Groove Is in the Heart', and this conversation goes all the way back to the beginning.Dmitry grew up in Soviet Ukraine as a third-generation musician. His grandmother — unable to afford a piano during the disruptions of the Russian Revolution, Civil War and World War Two — cut piano keys from paper so she could practise by hand. That love of music carried through the family, and Dmitry began lessons at five, was attending a conservatory music school by seven, and was already writing his own compositions in the style of Gershwin and Scott Joplin by eight.Western music was tightly controlled. Records could only be obtained on the black market — for around $50 each — and were copied onto reel-to-reel before being traded on. A track from Jesus Christ Superstar introduced him to something funky he couldn't yet name, and the search for that sound would shape the rest of his life.At 14, Dmitry and his family left the Soviet Union — the first in their town to do so, and treated as traitors for it. After periods in Austria and Italy, where he discovered punk (the Pistols, the Damned, X-Ray Spex, Iggy Pop), the family arrived in New York in 1978. On Halloween. In a Black neighbourhood in Brooklyn. Having never seen Black people before. From a 50-cent bin in a record shop, he picked up 'The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein' by Parliament because the cover looked insane. That was the moment. 'There it is,' he thought. 'That's the sound I've been looking for.' He's been a funkateer ever since.New York in the late 70s and early 80s was extraordinary — punk, disco, hip hop, and house all converging in the same sweaty rooms. Dmitry became an elevator operator at Danceteria, practising guitar in the lift between floors while Sisters of Mercy and the Sugar Hill Gang did soundchecks below. He ran into the pre-fame Beastie Boys regularly, worked at the Pyramid Club (run by drag queens, and a real education in showmanship), and played for Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash at block parties in Harlem and the Bronx.Dee-Lite formed as a direct attempt to bridge the gap between house and funk. They built a following through monthly shows drawing up to 1,500 people, which caught the attention of a Billboard writer and eventually sparked a label bidding war. They signed to Elektra — choosing them because their A&R, Nancy Jeffries, had signed Iggy Pop and Bjork, and that felt like the right kind of open-mindedness.Elektra didn't believe 'Groove Is in the Heart' had any traction. They let Dee-Lite do the video anyway, and Dmitry remembers the precise moment he knew it had crossed over: standing in a grocery store queue when it came on the radio and the cashier started dancing at her till. 'That's my jam,' she said. 'That's my jam.'Q-Tip turned up to the studio, listened for 15 minutes, jotted notes, and nailed it in two takes. Bootsy Collins casually mentioned he had 'some friends' who might be able to play horns — those friends were Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker, who arrived as near-strangers to each other after five years apart and immediately played like they'd never stopped.Their first proper gig with a full live band was in front of 300,000 people at Rock in Rio. The second album was recorded expensively in a big studio; Dmitry considers it their weakest. The third, Dewdrops in the Garden, went back to basics and home recording, and he's proud of how well it still sounds. The band broke up when Dmitry and Kier's relationship ended, and he eventually made his way to Berlin — partly drawn by its thriving club culture, partly pushed out of New York by Giuliani's crackdown on clubs. He played Tresor, won a Best Techno DJ award at Ibiza despite not really being a techno DJ, worked with Julie Cruz, remixed Chaka Khan and Ziggy Marley, and kept making music. Then during the pandemic, a friend sent him a vocalist called Jessie Evans. He sent her some dub tracks that had been sitting on his computer for years. She recorded them one by one, sending back a finished song every couple of days from Brazil — while caring for two young children. Before they had ever met on video, they had an album's worth of material. That project became Nauti Siren. She moved to Germany, they got married, and they now have around five albums' worth of music ready to release. The first, 'Rising', is out now. This is a remarkable conversation with someone who has lived inside the history of popular music for fifty years — and who still has plenty more to say.Find DJ Super Dmitry:Instagram: @superdjdmitryNauti Siren 'Rising' — out on Bandcamp and all streaming platformsOnce A DJThe podcast that looks at what brings us together and what sets us apart. Errori Comuni "Luigi è molto rispettato verso i suoi professori." → "Luigi è molto rispettoso verso i suoi professori." I dirigenti prendono decisioni strategiche,
Leading digital bank Monzo has released the second edition of 'The Monzo Money Pulse', a research-led series exploring how Ireland feels about money. Following its pulse check on savings, Monzo now examines the hidden economic and emotional toll financial admin takes on Irish small business owners. The research, surveying 500 Irish SME owners, reveals that on average, they spend 2 hours and 43 minutes per week on financial admin. With their time valued at an average of €61 per hour, this equates to approximately €165 per week, or over €8,500 per year in lost time per business. Scaled nationally, this amounts to an estimated €2.1 billion per year in lost productivity. "The Monzo Money Pulse found that financial admin is swallowing Irish SMEs' time, with 55% of owners citing expense management as the most time-consuming task.[2] Chasing payments from customers and suppliers (38%), and tax planning as a close follow", said Elaine Deehan, Monzo's Irish Country Manager. "We're removing that friction with a range of plans that include automated tax pots, invoicing and many different methods to pay and get paid. We're turning complex admin into a few simple taps. Businesses can join the waitlist to sign up for an account soon at monzo.com/ie/waitlist." The Stress of Success SMEs form the backbone of the Irish economy, employing around 1.6 million people, or 68% of the business workforce. Yet financial management imposes a heavy emotional toll on them, with 94% of SME owners surveyed, reporting that it makes them feel stressed, with business owners more than twice as likely as sole traders to feel "very stressed." The burden is so significant that 55% of owners who handle financial admin personally would sacrifice playing or watching sports for a month to avoid a year of financial admin. Others would trade away their favourite takeaway (43%) or social media (25%) just to offload the task. Freeing up this time through better banking tools would be transformative: 56% of owners would reinvest that energy into customers or clients, 32% would focus on growth, and 47% would prioritise time with family and friends. Time and Translation Tax Financial admin is a significant time sink for SME owners d, with 47% of those surveyed losing three to four hours weekly and another 36% spending up to two hours. Because 92% of owners surveyed handle these tasks personally, the operational drain is constant: 9% are distracted from core business daily, 40% weekly, and 33% monthly. This burden is compounded by a massive "complexity gap" with 41% of owners feeling they need a translator to understand bank products, terms, or communications.[6] 58% claim untangling a box of cables is easier than managing their finances and over half (55%) even believe predicting the Irish weather is more straightforward than navigating business banking. Frustrations vs Fixes Sharon Malone, CEO and Founder of Finerty said, "Managing financial admin is a stressful, time-consuming part of running your own business. I was spending 5 to 7 hours a month stuck doing manual VAT calculations, categorising and managing receipts, and processing payments through fragmented systems. I recall my early days as an Entrepreneur trying to set up a business bank account, it took weeks and it felt like there wasn't much help or support available". "With Monzo I was able to open an account within 10 minutes and for the first time ever, we have all our payments, merchant services, receipts, invoice management, and transaction categorisation in one place. It has drastically reduced the time and stress I previously spent on admin, giving me more time to focus on growing the business which is exactly how I want to spend it." Sharon's experience echoes the frustrations from SME owners with three quarters (76%) saying it's important that their bank reduces the financial admin of running their business. Monzo Business will soon be offering a range of plans from Lite (free), to Pro (€7/pm) to Team (...

Epomaker have sent us their HE68 Lite keyboard to take a look at, and we have been putting it through its paces both for office and gaming use over the last couple of weeks. What's in the Box? Inside the box, along with the keyboard, you get: A pack of Screws and Extra Switches A hand strap, the strap's accessories and a screwdriver 1 x USB A to C Cable A 2-in-1 Keycap-and-Switch Puller 1 x Multilingual Manual HE68 Lite Keyboard Design and Features The HE68 Lite is a compact 65% size keyboard, utilising a 68 key layout. In hand and in use, it is clear this keyboard is exceptionally well made given its relatively low price. It is also packed full of features that you would expect to find in more expensive gaming keyboards. Some of those featured include: Hall Effect (Magnetic) Switches – Contactless magnetic sensing for improved durability and precision. Adjustable Actuation – Fine-tune actuation points with extremely precise adjustment (down to 0.01 mm). Rapid Trigger Support – Ultra-fast reset and re-actuation for competitive gaming. High Polling Rate (Up to 8000Hz) – Very low latency input performance. Advanced Gaming Features – Includes Snap Tap (SOCD cleaning) and Dynamic Keystroke functions. Per-Key RGB Backlighting – Customisable lighting effects with shine-through keycaps. Multi-Layer Sound Dampening – Designed for a quieter, more refined typing sound. Wired USB-C Connection – Stable, low-latency wired operation (no wireless modes). Lightweight Build (~650g) – Portable and easy to reposition. The key strokes are super smooth, very quiet, but still have a satisfying click at the end of travel. The package comes with tools to replace keys should you need to in the future, and how the key performs can be adjusted via downloadable software for Windows and Mac. Each key is also backlit with programmable RGB lighting, which is really well implemented. The colours are vibrant but never distracting. We connected the keyboard to multiple different desktop systems as well as gaming consoles such as Xbox, and the HE68 Lite performed great. Software The software, which you can download for both Windows and Mac, is comprehensive. It is nice to see a Mac version available, as it is often overlooked for things like this. If you need to use the keyboard with a system other than these two operating systems, the keyboard retains its settings once set up with the software on a compatible system. Some of the HE68 Lite features available: Custom Keys Magnetic Switch Settings Advanced Key Settings Keyboard Report Rate Custom Key Settings Light Effect Settings Community Share for Keyboard Settings Conclusion We have been very impressed with the Epomaker HE68 Lite since receiving it. The keyboard is very well made, performs really well and is packed full of features you would expect to find in more expensive units. The software that comes with it is comprehensive and allows you to adjust all of the functions exactly to your liking. It's an easy recommendation at its price. It is a great place to start if you are looking to pick up a mechanical keyboard, and it is also a reasonably priced gift idea for any gamers that you know. You can find out more about the keyboard on the Epomaker site. The keyboard is also available to purchase from both Amazon and AliExpress.

Episode 345 – The Homeowner Show Hosted by Kevin Hackett and Craig Williams Time is flying… and so is technology. In Episode 350, Kevin and Craig kick things off talking about how fast the year is moving, what an El Niño season means for weather patterns, and even touch on a recent headline-making kidnapping case. It's the kind of real-life, real-time conversation you've come to expect — grounded, relevant, and honest. Then things get futuristic. Kevin shares how he used artificial intelligence — including ChatGPT and a voice AI called WhisperFlow — to diagnose and repair his refrigerator. Step-by-step troubleshooting. Real-time problem solving. No service call required. It's a fascinating look at how AI is becoming a practical tool for homeowners — not just a buzzword. From there, Craig fires up something a little more hands-on: a full review of the Gozney Arc portable pizza oven. He breaks down: Setup and accessories Performance and heat output (up to 950°F) Cooking technique (yes, you have to turn the pizza!) Dough experiments and topping combinations Portability and versatility (steaks, veggies, and more) What starts as a product review turns into a bigger conversation about food, family, and whether making pizza at home can actually beat ordering out. They dive into cost comparisons, ingredient quality, and the experience of cooking together — plus a quirky grocery store story involving pasta production and European food labeling. Bottom line? The Gozney Arc delivers. It's powerful, fun, and surprisingly approachable — whether you're a casual pizza night family or a backyard culinary enthusiast. Episode 350 is about more than AI and pizza. It's about modern tools, timeless skills, and creating better experiences at home. If you've ever wondered: Can AI actually fix real-world problems? Is a high-end pizza oven worth it? Is homemade really better? This episode answers all three. Tune in, experiment a little, and maybe make pizza night something your family looks forward to every single week. Produsent: Peter Daatland. Foto: Kenny Holston / New York Times

The Host (2013) is the divergent of our divergence month, because they ended at three instead of the four they were meant to have. It's a YA that came out in a similar era so we figured we'd be okay. How wrong we were. Having now watched it, we don't know if we would count it in that cycle. It's not a social allegory for anything that makes sense, which is an amazing feat for a body snatchers film. One thing is for sure, Stephenie Meyer sure loves making actors wear coloured contacts. Join us next week for our 200th episode!!!
