Balogh Mari Aranytoll-díjas újságíró, szerkesztő, az első magyar női tévériporter, a Magyar Televízió örökös tagja volt. Munkáscsaládból származott, apja Csepelen vasöntőként, anyja gyári munkásként dolgozott. Származására egész életében büszke volt, a közösségért felelős gondolkodást, magatartást és a szociális érzékenységét otthonról hozta magával. 1953-ban az akkor alakult pécsi rádióhoz került riportergyakornoknak. Budapesten előbb a Magyar Rádió, majd 1959-től a Magyar Televízió munkatársa lett. A televízióban először a nőkről készített műsorsorozatot, amelynek címe Lányok-asszonyok volt. Riportjai többségükben a hétköznapi emberek sorsával, problémáival foglalkoztak. Legendás televíziós műsorában, – amelynek címe Ebédszünet volt, – riportalanyai, többnyire kétkezi munkások a saját környezetükben beszéltek - ebédszünetben - a hétköznapi életüket, munkájukat érintő gondjaikról, problémáikról. Hofi Géza ennek nyomán nevezte Balogh Marit "Ebédszünet Máriá"-nak. Kétségtelen, hogy leginkább a gazdasággal, iparral foglalkozó témákhoz vonzódott, az emberi sorsok, a munkások érdekelték, akikkel mindig szót értett. A nyolcvanas években A Hét című tévéműsor új főszerkesztője, azzal az indokkal, hogy neki csak szép és okos nők kellenek, gyakorlatilag utcára tette. Egy év kényszerszünet után Sorsok címmel kapott új műsort. 1995-ben ment nyugdíjba, amikor már beosztott riporterként dolgozott, és egy fiatal szerkesztő megmondta neki, mit kell kérdeznie. Ekkor döntött úgy, hogy abbahagyja a szakmát. Sokan keménynek, férfiasnak hitték, pedig nagy lelke volt, aki szabad idejében Tóth Árpádot olvasott, Beethovent hallgatott, és mindig boldog volt, ha tehetett valamit másokért. Négyéves korától egymaga nevelte halmozottan sérült unokaöccsét, mert szülei intézetbe adták volna. Balogh Mari még aktív tévés volt, amikor a Pető Intézetbe járt a kisfiúval mindennap. Fenekestől felfordult az élete, de érezte, amíg él, dolga van a gyerekkel. A fiúból felnőtt lett, túl a negyvenen. Balogh Mari élete utolsó éveiben Székesfehérváron egy intézetben élt, unokaöccsével együtt. 85 éves korában, 2021 őszén halt meg. 40 évig volt a Magyar Televízió munkatársa.
