From its earliest concept stages, Star Trek: The Next Generation set out to break new ground, including the intentional addition of a disabled crewmember to the Enterprise-D. Inspired by and named for a real fan, George LaForge, this character was part of a push for greater representation and inclusivity on screen. This week, The Trek Files welcomes actor and artist Bruce Horak, known to fans as Hemmer from Strange New Worlds. Bruce shares his personal journey as a blind actor stepping into Star Trek's universe, the impact of authentic representation, and his new documentary Boldly Going, where he paints portraits of people who have overcome significant challenges in their own lives. Content note: The historical document featured in this episode contains outdated language and descriptions of disabled individuals. While we do not endorse these terms, we present the full text in the interest of transparency and historical context. In this caffeine-fueled installment of News & Brews, we're back from D.C. and brimming with Trek news, wild ideas, and hot partnerships! We kick things off by celebrating William Shatner's 94th birthday and announcing some huge news: partnerships with Fansets and Nubeo Watches—don't forget to use code OPP50 for 50% off! Then we dive headfirst into the world of Star Trek: from the curious case of a Deep Space Nine musical that almost happened, to whispers of a romance that never made it to screen between Damar and Kira. (Seriously, it's juicy.) We've got thoughts on Jonathan Frakes' insights into Starfleet Academy—including why it's aimed at the "hardcore" fans and what a spaceship the size of your mom's disappointment has to do with it. Plus, we warp into Universal Studios' upcoming Fan Fest Nights and the return of the real Enterprise-D bridge set. Add in some Klingon snacks, Earl Grey tea (hot and cold), and a nod to the underrated brilliance of the current IDW Star Trek comics, and you've got yourself one jam-packed episode. Strap in. Drink up. Engage.
The crew of the Enterprise D is used to Riker bringing something back from Risa, but this time it's a little more sinister than a run of the mill space STD. It's something even more contagious, a game! Soon it's sweeping the ship, and all the crew members and the families and the puppies are addicted to it, and we mean addicted! So addicted, Bev and Riker knock out Data, so the workaholic robot doesn't spoil their fun. Good thing Wesley Crusher is back, and good thing Ashley Ju . . . Uh, Robin Lefler is here, so they can team up and save the day. Unfortunately for them, the crew ain't having it, and the chase is on. Will Wes and Robin be able to get the crew into rehab? Will the Ktarian named Etana be successful in hijacking the Enterprise? Will some please, please, please stop Riker from going to Risa? Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

On this week's episode of our show, me and special guest Ambassador Justin Toner set a course for the 24th century and one of the greatest episodes in all of Star Trek. When the Enterprise-C emerges from a time vortex, history is changed and the Enterprise-D is no longer a ship of exploration, but a ship of warfare in a long-standing conflict with the Klingons. Our faithful bartender Guinan senses that something is wrong with this new timeline, and must convince the crew to set things right. Join us as we go boldly!
Ever have your hot date ruined by some lousy ass entity? Riker feels your pain in “Silicon Avatar.” It's another all-new episode of ST:TNGeez Not Another Star Trek Podcast and it's coming at you right about . . . What starts as a lovely day on a beautiful new colony quickly becomes a terrifying race for survival as Riker and the Away Team are helping to settle Melona IV when the Crystalline Entity strikes! Remember the Crystalline Entity from season one's “Datalore”? It's back and cock- blocking Riker! The Enterprise D decides it's finally time to do something about this genocidal snowflake, and welcomes Dr. Kila Marr, a Xenologist and expert on ole Crysty. Seems the doctor has issues with Data because her beloved son, Renny, was killed when Crysty destroyed Omicron Theta at the behest of Data's errant twin Lore. She gets over it once she realizes all her hate is being spewed in futility. It also helps that Data has a repository of her son's journals in his computerized noggin. Soon the two are working together to find Crysty and confront it once and for all, but to what end? Seems Picard wants to chat with the thing while Dr. Marr wants to pop a cap in this punk ass entity once and for all. Awkward! Will Picard be able to convince everyone that Crysty deserves a chance? Will Dr. Marr take a chill pill and learn to love the alien? Will Riker ever get another chance at the late colonist's promise of dessert? We dive into all of that and more as we finally get down to ranting about this movie. A new era of Holodeck Divas has begun, and we are gonna be in this era for a while! In this episode of our podcast we are discussing the first episode of Star Trek The Next Generation, Encounter at Farpoint (s1e1). Technically we are only talking about the first half because the first TNG episode was almost two hours (if you include commercials). We meet Captain Picard, Data, and a few other members of The Enterprise D, and we also meet one of the best villains(?) in all of Star Trek. Listen and find out what the divas have to say!
Dave and Andrew, their mics wide open because it's time for Darmok! on this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez . . . Season 5 is in full gear as we reach one of the all time classic episodes! The Enterprise D is dispatched to take another swing at establishing communications with the Children of Tama, aka the Tamarians. Seems like previous attempts have failed, so why not send the man who schooled the Sheliak? Remember what a pain in the ass they were? Things get off to a rough start as neither side seems to understand the other. Then the Tamarians kidnap PIcard and send him planetside along with their own captain, who offers Picard a sharp blade and a smile. Captain and crew are seriously befuddled. Is this meant to be a captain-on-captain brawl ala Kirk vs. the Gorn? Or maybe some sort of group whittling project? Who knows? Certainly not Commander Riker and the rest of the crew who race to find a way to rescue Picard without starting a war. Will Data and Troi break the code and figure out how to communicate with the Tamarians? Will Geordi and Worf find a way to penetrate the field that prevents them from rescuing Picard? Is the bridge that chilly that Picard needs to wear a jacket indoors? Find out in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast.Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

Ready to boldly go and discover exciting new worlds? Yeah, sure, but first we have to run some errands. This time, the Enterprise D is dispatched to see why the very impressive, nuclear powered Argus Array isn't working. That's right! The Argus Array, a badass telescope! The flagship of the Federation staffed with the crew that single-handedly stopped the Borg from invading earth, is investigating when they discover a foreign probe floating near the array. Geordi takes returning guest star Reg Barclay in a shuttle to get a closer look at the giant space suppository. There's a flash of light that knocks Barclay unconscious, and after a merry chase, the Enterprise destroys the pursuing probe. Looks like everything is back to normal and they can focus on fixing the array. Isn't that a relief? Oh wait, we forgot to mention that Barclay is now a super genius who dazzles everyone with his newfound brains and charm . . . until he takes over the ship! Will pissy Picard manage to regain control? Will Barclay score with Counselor Troi? Will Data and Barclay face off in a game of Jeopardy!? TNG's beginningIs it possible to view something from long ago in the Trek canon as a new viewer might? The trio attempt to make the old come to life again by re-examining the pilot episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation."It is hard to begin a Star Trek series re-watch. Which one? Where to start? Do you go 20th or 21st Century shows? After a mix of picking their own series recently, the trio come together for a TNG rewatch. That means starting with that two-hour special "Encounter at Fairpoint." The introduction of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, its crew, the look and feel of the 24th Century ... and Q! There is a lot to take in, even if we ultimately know what production approaches (and characters) don't make it very far. They try to imagine all questions and mysteries this first episode would bring to either a new viewer or die-hard TOS fan. So join them and revisit 1987 with the re-birth of a Star Trek TV series!
On this week's episode of our show, Captain Ingle and I and our special guest Justin Toner set a course for the 24th AND 32nd centuries and the voyages of both the Enterprise-D and the Discovery. The reason for this is that in addition to the classic two-parter episode "Unification" from The Next Generation, the story was given a sequel of sorts in the form of the Discovery episode "Unification III", wherein the story of the Romulans and Vulcans continues. Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) meet “The Muse” and we wish she would leave and never be heard of again. Just like this episode. We talk about everything we can to avoid talking about this episode including name dropping elder millennial shit like AskJeeves, Walkmans and Game Gears, we argue about nostalgia and the Enterprise D and we appreciate/elevate authentic, real life experiences over manufactured media we are fed on our devices. Also, we do talk about the episode itself. Eventually. Matthew rants about Paramount + and Jo speculates about the sexuality of everyone on Lwaxana's husband's planet. The Enterprise D is playing host to a special guest. Why, it's Leah Brahms, the engineer who created the engines that drive our favorite Galaxy Class vessel! Remember when Geordi created a hologram of her to help the ship escape a booby trap in the episode “Booby Trap”? Remember how cringey that got? Yeah, this is a whole lot worse as Geordi never bothered to delete his browser history. And while Geordi is in the midst of the Cringiest Moment of His Life, Jean-Luc is busy playing surrogate mom to a space pasta after he ignores Worf's advice and ends up killing its mom. Smooth move, ExLax! Now a giant space kid is using the Enterprise as a Galaxy Class nipple! (Picard: That's Captain ExLax, if you please!) Will Geordi be able to salvage his relationship with Leah and his reputation? Will Jean-Luc be able to wean the child off of his ship? Will Leah Brahms waste her whole visit in HR doing paperwork? Pitching a New Trek Series: Enterprise-CThere are "gaps" in Trek history, mostly between the launch of the Enterprise-B and the start of the continuing voyages of the Enterprise-D on "The Next Generation." The trio dives into creating a new series based during the earlier part of the 24th Century with the crew of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-C. Just like Captain Christopher Pike, fans already know the tragic ending for Captain Rachel Garrett, Lieutenant Richard Castillo, and the Ambassador-class ship (and alternate universe Tasha Yar!). But even though the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" tells us the end of the story, what were the missions and untold stories of this crew?In this proposed new series, Captain Garret leads a senior crew of commanders from various alien worlds, along with some familiar faces along the way. A young, wild, and close-to-losing-his-job junior diplomat Curzon Dax helps the Enterprise-C in its mission of patroling Klingon and Romulan space, with a new class of starship that seems more equipped for combat than diplomacy. Will the ship's communications officer be the last one in Starfleet? What lower deck shenanigans are occuring? And why does the Ambassador-class ships become less common in the later part of the 24th Century? All these questions and more are explored in the pitching of a Enterprise-C TV series!
Star Trek: The Next Generation, Series 5, Episode 9. First broadcast on Monday, 18 November 1991. The absence of Robin Williams and the presence of Rick Berman are both keenly felt this week, as a normal day at the office for the Enterprise-D becomes merely a mildly diverting day at the office. The cause: an elegantly named time-travelling confidence trickster, who nicks a bunch of stuff so he can put it on eBay and pretends that everything here is much more thrilling than it actually is. Let's say three-and-a-half stars, but two of those stars are for Marina Sirtis's performance.
You need the transwarp key to see THE MAJESTY I SEE X2M.150-162 The “word of the Lord is QUAESITUM, seeking for a resting place” a QUIDDITY, “the what that was to be” from the QUINTESSENCE encounter INGRESSIVE OR CONSTATIVE AORIST The ingressive essence moving for a constative permanent place to sit/rest In reference to Colossians 1:19, the aorist verb κατοικῆσαι (katoikēsai) could be taken as an ingressive, in which case it refers to the incarnation and may be translated as “begin to dwell, to take up residence.” It is perhaps better, though, to take it as a constative aorist and simply a reference to the fact that the fullness of God dwells in Jesus Christ. This is a permanent dwelling, though, not a temporary one, as the present tense in Colossians 2:9 makes clear. Between the tech manual I had back in the day for the Enterprise-D and my Enterprise blueprints, the following technologies are listed (perhaps not canon, but at least seem reasonable). - Warp (Constitution class): Warp number cubed was the velocity relative to speed of light, with the Enterprise having a max normal of Warp 12 listed and emergency max of Warp 14. - Transwarp (Excelsior class): Technology enabling the ship to drop into an alternate dimension where time flowed at a different rate. Effectively 2x as fast at each Warp number. - Ultra Warp (Galaxy class): A shifting pattern of warp fields that made greater velocity capable and also redefined Warp numbers as an exponential curve with 1 being speed of light and 10 being infinite. Now, obviously transwarp was redefined when the Borg came out. Perhaps a combination of Ultra Warp, but in transwarp space? Seems like sometimes they used conduits, but not always? Conduits accelerated the transwarp effect? I dunno, it got really fuzzy at that point in the Star Trek space. :-) Trans-warp is one of those generic terms that was thrown around a lot in the Star Trek Universe. In the case of the USS Excelsior, it is my understanding that trans-warp stood for an experimental technology that allowed a ship to jump from standstill to any warp velocity the ship was capable of without having to accelerate through the various levels (warp 1, warp 2, warp 3, etc). So, in that case, Excelsior could have caught Enterprise because it not only could accelerate instantly, but it also had a higher top sustainable speed. In other instances, the term trans-warp referred to any technology that allowed ships to travel "faster" than a normal warp speed ship. For instance, the Borg created wormhole-like conduits, in Voyager there was the slip-stream technology, and so forth. Going Boldly Where The Last Man has Gone Before! It seems the deal they made with the devil has come to term and she's come to collect! Wait, did I say “she”? That's right, baby! Ardra is her name, and she claims Ventax II and everything on or around it, including the Enterprise! Picard calls bullshit on that! In fact, he calls bullshit on the whole deal, especially on Ardra herself. Convinced she's nothing more than a con artist, Picard is dedicated to sending this devil straight to Heck! He demands arbitration, and Ardra agrees, but she chooses Data as the arbitrator and Picard as her prize! Will Ardra best Picard with Data's help? Will Geordi be able to figure out the secret to Ardra's magic? Will Picard ever just say fuck it and sleep in the raw? There's always been a feel-good, easy-times nostalgia for the 80s and 90s TV shows. More so now that we sometimes feel overwhelmed by the plethora of shows we have to pick from. If you feel me then you will enjoy this conversation. Our guest today is the award-winning screen and television writer, professor, and best-selling author, Pamela Douglas. Pamela is a member of the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America and a USC School of Cinematics Arts tenure professor for screenwriting. She is credited for her writing on shows/series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Ghostwriter (1992) to name a few.Aside from her awesome career as a screenwriter, she's an international writer with multi-lingual adaptations of her books (German, Mandarin, Italian, French, Korean, and Spanish). Pamela packed her expertise in her 2018 revised fourth edition of her 2008 book 'Writing the TV Drama Series: How to Succeed as a Professional Writer in TV'.The book is a complete resource for anyone who wants to write and produce for television drama series or create an original series, as well as for teachers in screenwriting classes and workshops. It leads the reader step-by-step through every stage of the development and writing process, offering practical industry information and artistic inspiration. The Fourth Edition leads readers into the future and engages provocative issues about the interface between traditional TV and emerging technologies. It's also the single most comprehensive source on what is happening in original television drama around the world, with surveys of 15 countries. As you will learn in this episode, Pamela's passion for writing goes back to her childhood. Even though she's dabbed in screenwriting for movies, she's discovered throughout her career that television carries a bigger pull in terms of communicating ideas, stories, characters, life, and experience. Its essence allows for vertical story-telling, expansion, and continuity to reveal newer plots and characters.Star Trek: The Next Generation is a classic sci-fi series set almost 100 years after Captain Kirk's five-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers set off in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on its own mission to go where no one has gone before - the exploration of the Milky Way galaxy.Ghostwriter is an American children's mystery television series that revolves around a circle of friends from Brooklyn who solve neighborhood crimes and mysteries as a team of young detectives with the help of a ghost named Ghostwriter who can only communicate through writing and words.Chatting with a seasoned screenwriter like Pamela, there is so much wealth of knowledge packed in every word. We talked about presentation reelers, the forex structure and her approach to it, and why she thinks The Wire is the best show of all time in terms of character, layering, and sterilized storytelling.Enjoy this conversation with Pamela Douglas. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2664729/advertisement

They got stuff to do, too, and Data is happy to tell us, or rather Bruce Maddox, all about it via his voiceover blog post. When the Enterprise D runs out of story ideas…. I mean, when the Enterprise D runs into a field of two-dimensional entities, the ship's resident empath loses her empathery! That's right, it's a Deanna Troi focused episode! She holds her forehead, she emotes, She buries her face in Riker's chest -- It's Deanna! Deanna! Deanna! Now at the Pantages! The Enterprise encounters invisible lifeforms that drag the ship in their wake. Eventually that dragging is going to take them into a Singularity String. You might say “ Singularity String, what the hell is that?” And the answer is “Who the fuck knows?” but it's bad… Real bad. It's going to destroy the Enterprise, all the kids on board, and Deanna Troi, too! Meanwhile, Troi has lost her powers and is dealing with what it's like to be a regular ol' human, aaaaand she's really not that good at it. Troi gets cranky, loses her shit, and gets down right tired of everyone not understanding how disabled she is. Will the Enterprise break loose of the two-dimensional threat? Will Deanna get her empathic powers back, Will Jean-Luc fondle a crystal while he's trying to figure things out? Find out on this exciting (I guess) episode of ST:TNGeeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast!Even more available at: https://tngeez.com
