In the fourth episode of Lagered Tales our co-founder and CEO at Beau’s, Steve Beauchesne, talks to Ren Navarro, founder of Beer.Diversity about her work addressing the lack of diversity in the Canadian craft beer industry.    In the episode’s second feature, one of our producers, Patrick, sits down with Ottawa-based charitable organization, Operation Come Home’s executive director, Elspeth McKay, and Steve (separately) as they each recount the (exciting) story of having a law changed in Ontario in 2011, in the name of social enterprise!   In our third feature, Eddy Earwigg sits down with Louise Sproule, the editor and publisher of The Review, a local newspaper in Vankleek Hill. They discuss the challenges of being the first female publisher at a small-town paper, how Vankleek Hill has changed since Beau’s arrived, and much more -- expect the unexpected.    Finally, Steve joins the Toronto-based writer and beer expert Crystal Luxmore to discuss her favourite holiday beers.    Lagered Tales is a bi-weekly check-in from your friends at the employee-owned Canadian craft brewery Beau’s. Through interviews, storytelling and exciting regular features, we'll explore the intersecting worlds of craft beer, food, music, community and culture — and we’ll just generally talk to great people doing great things.   Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @beausallnatural, on Facebook @BeausBrewery. We initially spoke with Mike and Keegan of Microbrasserie 4 Origines about the seal they launched, and so for this episode, we chatted in-depth with Fred, the former president of the Quebec beer body AMBQ and Co-Founder of Microbrasserie Charlevoix, and Steve, Co-Founder of Beau's All Natural, who has been instrumental in spearheading a national Canadian beer trade group. This was a fascinating conversation with two highly regarded members of the brewing industry, and we'd love to hear your thoughts on where this is all going. Imagine quitting your career, selling your house and changing cities at the age of 29, just to move home (to a small town) in order to start a company with your father? Well, that's exactly what Steve Beauchesne did and he doesn't regret it one bit. By taking a leap of faith and "starting over" with his dad by his side, they were able to build one of the most successful craft brewery's in Canada. And to make the story even better, the duo decided to create one of the first all-sustainable brewery's. A decision that proved to be very rewarding. This is such a fun episode, as Steve shares how they got it off the ground- even with a lot of debt from his father's original business; what it was like finding a Brew Master when they couldn't afford to pay them a salary; how they built up a loyal following and why they are focused on making a global impact in lead up to their ten year anniversary. We also talk about how to make beer, where their recipes comes from, and so much more. Check out Beau's latest initiative- a Kickstarter Campaign to help fund a female run and operated brewery in Rwanda. If you love beer, business and creating impact, then you'll absolutely love this episode.
