The sometimes strained and sometimes incredibly powerful crossover between industrial and hip-hop is the subject of this week's We Have A Technical. From both genres' shared roots in sampling to thorny questions of MCing to current forms of hip-hop which create noise ex nihilo, we're aiming for a relatively subjective discussion of this unique intersection rather than an authoritative history thereof. We're also touching upon a recent article detailing connections between noise/power electronics artists like Dom Fernow and the far right.

Whether you've attended a friend's wedding or had a wedding of your own, you know that the music vibe can absolutely make or break a wedding experience. No matter the genre of music, it's important to know how to create a magical experience for not only the Bride and Groom but for the guests as well. This week, I am talking with Dane Leveton, Professional DJ, MC and Owner of Levitate Weddings. Levitate Weddings provides an all inclusive, premier wedding planning experience, located in Danvers, MA. Dane has been a top DJ and MC for over 20 years and was actually the DJ at my own wedding. In this episode, Dane shares the artistry behind perfecting the “Start and Stop” transition to keep the music and vibe going, how to keep the crowd moving, and the power of easy listening, intimate music before the dance floor opens up. Even when Dane isn't DJing or MCing events, he is still pursuing his other passions and recognizes the power of pursuing your most ambitious goals. Topics Discussed: Differences between a Wedding DJ and Turntable DJ The artistry behind Beat-Mixing and Genre-Bending How the Wedding Industry community collaborated during Covid-19 Why video is an essential part of remembering your Big Day How DJing is more about provoking emotion rather than just a skill Reading the crowd and knowing how and when to open up the dance floor Understanding the Music Theory behind mixing songs Instilling a passion for music for future generations The importance of following your passions Connect with Levitate Weddings: Website: http://levitateweddings.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LevitateWeddings/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/levitateweddings/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtkaRbRa1FU Relevant Articles: Find Glocal - Levitate Weddings http://www.findglocal.com/US/Danvers/106793830801350/Levitate-Weddings Contact Levitate Weddings: Address: 10 Garden St, Danvers, MA 01923 Call: 978-836-0257 Email: Dane@LevitateWeddings.com Connect with Mark Condon: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BostonsBestPodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bostonsbest_podcast/ About Boston's Best: “Highlighting successful businesses in and around Boston, MA.” Go behind the scenes with financial planner, Mark Condon, as he asks industry-leading experts to talk about their businesses throughout the state of Massachusetts. Building a bridge between worlds, people, and cultures through leveraging technology, the spoken word, and the pen, Vernon T. Foster II is no stranger to adventure and defying convention. When the world valued specialization, he sought to become a generalist. Vernon opted to treat his 20's and early 30's as an experiment for building skills and honing his personal philosophy. Little did he know nor envision that his lifestyle would serve as a catalyst for creating a global movement and framework that would inspire others to follow suit. In the last 18 years, Vernon's knack for adventure has led to him starting an entertainment business at 19, two stints living in Central and South America, becoming an award-winning speaker, DJing and MCing world-famous EDM parties, moving to NYC with two suitcases to help build a tech startup, and now professional lacrosse. His work has been featured at Entrepreneur, General Assembly, The Good Men Project, and Podcast Movement. Lastly, Vernon is the host of a weekly podcast, I WANNA BE FAMOUS, where he mentors a community of game-changers seeking to develop diverse career skills and dormant talents for good. Questions Vernon answered in this podcast How can someone get "unstuck" in my life, business, or career? (Part 1) What's the best way to build skills to increase earning potential? (Part 1) How do you network and build relationships post-covid without being spammy? (Part 2) What are 3 essential career skills to level up in 2021? (Part 2) What is the P.I.V.O.T Method? From explaining the origin of his new moniker "Eddie" to voice acting almost daily. Mohamed Alsayed is a comedic force and really had to work his way around his chosen career to reach this point. Since his recent success in breaking the 100,000 follower barrier on Instagram, Mohamed has continued to create smiles and laughter around him. Mohamed started off his educational career in a choice that really didn't work out for him. Through this discovery but decision as well, he realized his love for voice acting, sound effects, organizing events, MCing events and even acting. Mohamed also notes his love of ensuring people laugh because of him, and is very well aware of the difficulty involved in doing that and becoming a fully fledged comedian. On top of all these different talents and challenges, it's important to note that Mohamed has a great story-telling ability in which he engulfed us in his life journey, telling about his attainment of black belts in various martial arts, as well as creating scenarios for the voices in his head. Join us in this one of a kind episode with truly the one and the only, Mohamed Alsayed aka They Call Me Eddie!

Panel discussions! You see some great ones, you see some ordinary ones. A few years ago I was really into the ABC TV show, Q&A with Tony Jones. Some people didn't enjoy his style. I loved it. He was direct, funny, great at segueing the conversation and getting panellists to add, argue, contradict each other, which created fantastic drama. It's really funny, over 131 episodes down and today we explore a topic we've never discussed before: The skill of moderating. That's what we talk about with today's guest, Kjell Lutz In this one, you'll hear how Kjell got his start with moderating panels and MCing, how he creates a dynamic conversation between panelists and audiences; how he gets large audiences interacting with content as well. About our Guest: Kjell Lutz Kjell is fascinated by how people learn. During his studies in organizational psychology, he immersed himself in the theory of knowledge transfer, how can you help people learn. He first applied this with small groups during training, then online with e-learnings and then with large groups during meetings. He further immersed himself in the psychology of making choices, how do we make choices and especially how can we make better choices. Kjell as a chairman is full of energy and enthusiasm. With an appropriate dose of humour and the right interaction, he connects the participants to the theme of the day and the current topics. He loves to lead different work forms that contribute to the learning process of the participants. Let people experience something meaningful in a playful way. As a speaker, he ensures that the dialogue session is properly initiated with an appropriate keynote. As a moderator, he facilitates the rounds of conversations to create the space that is needed. His newspaper ads read 1-800-WANT-POT, promising New Yorkers quality cannabis at a fair price, delivered in under an hour, by bicycle, at a time when legal cannabis was still a distant dream. Known as the Pope of Pot, Mickey Cesar had first learned how to navigate the illicit weed business in the 1970s while living in Amsterdam, before coming home to start America's first underground delivery service. What followed was a tale of overcoming arrests, getting shot, and a snitch calling Howard Stern, all to bring the cannabis sacrament to his growing flock. This episode features special guest Ben Sinclair, star and co-creator of High Maintenance on HBO. On High Maintenance, Ben plays a NYC weed delivery guy who makes his rounds on bicycle, so naturally Abdullah and Bean were thrilled to share with Ben the story of his real life predecessor.  We recorded live in front of a standing-room-only crowd at the Bell House in NYC as part of the 2020 Brooklyn Podcast Festival.
