Josh Brigham is a guitarist from the Charlotte, NC Melodic Hardcore / Rock band Hopesfall. Josh and go back from the early days of the band, meeting up at Cornerstone Festival and Furnace Fest in the early 00's. I've alwayas admired Hopesfall for the penchant for melodic aggressive expansive songs and memorable hooks. Josh and I talk about the history of the band and the records you know and love. It was super cool to let Josh know how much the band has meant to me over the years, and It was amazing to hear his perspective on the success of the band in the past and the current. I really hope you enjoy this awesome episode from a rad dude from a rad band.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCllM0wf-4U https://open.spotify.com/artist/1FEgAMsvc3DM2OtT4dPn9i?si=yZt2iRjMQeihNkNY8i99GA Production by Brian Jerin @jerinkid Music by Brian Jerin @jerinkid Artwork by Brian Trummel and Mark Montgomery @chinamark

Hopesfall is a very influential post hardcore/spirit filled hardcore band. They emerged in the North Carolina scene and the greater Southeast with bands like Beloved, Stretch Armstrong, he is legend, Underoath and Luti-Kriss around 2000. they were a Furnacefest band and a Cornerstone band.   They were signed to Takehold Records who was acquired by Tooth and Nail in 2003 but due to some changes in the bands lineup and other factors, Hopesfall rejected the opportunity to be on Solidstate at that time and was allowed to instead sign to Trustkill records.    This conversation begins with me and Brandon Ebel talking about how he wanted Hopesfall, but it wasn't meant to be.     LABELED FEST: https://bit.ly/2WbN29h Use promo code: LABELED for 20% off   Music in this episode... Chad Johnson is a significant figure in this movement who was identifying next level talent that was yet to reach its potential and creating opportunities for them. He was quite successful in aggregating and attracting further talent primarily in the southeast region. Further Seems Forever, Underoath, twothirtyeight, hopesfall, and more. He created Furnace Fest which became in addition to Cornerstone, a Mecca and pilgrimage to legendary experience. His record label, Takehold Records, was acquired by Tooth & Nail in the early 2000's where Chad was A&R for many of the largest bands on the label. He left Tooth & Nail to start Come and Live! in 2009 and now has revived Furnace Fest in 2021.   https://labeledpodcast.com/ Support Labeled on Patreon Join Labeled on Facebook www.furnacefest.us SONGS YOU HEARD ON THIS EPISODE: twothirtyeight- Coin Laundry Loser Underoath - A Boy Brushed Red Live mewithoutyou- January 1979 Showbread- Mouth Like a Magazine Underoath- Never Meant to Break Your Heart   MORE FROM TOOTH & NAIL: * Labeled: Music From The Podcast: smarturl.it/labeledplaylist * DISCOVER IT: New Tracks from T&N Records: smarturl.it/TNNDiscover * This Is Solid State: New Tracks from Solid State Records: https://spoti.fi/2CUCsaH * Tooth & Nail Store (LABELED Patreon members get 20% off everything): tnn.lnk.to/store

Afterdark - Underoath Discography DiscussionWe’re switching things up this week. No interview. Instead I’m sharing last week’s episode of our Patreon Podcast, After Dark. Recently I’ve decided to take inspiration from our friends at Discography Discussion and deep dive different band’s catalogs for the Patreon show. Last week I was joined by longtime listener and Patreon member Ben Pike to discuss Underoath’s discography. Ben and I had some disagreements about the various records and I thought the dialog about nostalgia and how reunions can change your opinion about a favorite band was worth sharing with the larger As the Story Grows audience.----------Music:Underoath - "Reinventing Your Exit"Underoath - "Innocence Stolen"Underoath - "The Last"Underoath - "When The Sun SleepsUnderoath - "Young And Aspiring"Underoath - "A Moment Suspended In Time"Underoath - "A Fault Line A Fault Of Mine"Underoath - "In Division"Underoath - "It Has To Start Somewhere"Underoath - "Writing On the Walls"---As The Story Grows links:Help out at PatreonATSG WebsiteATSG Music and MerchJoin the Email ListATSG FacebookEmail: asthestorygrows@gmail.comYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNuP0_JUpT6DoIhhbGlwEYA?view_as=subscriber

Chapter 14 Today we continue on our early 2000’s journey with the very important and pivotal Anberlin (Stephen Christian).  I refer to Anberlin as pivotal, because they began as a pop punk band in the vein of late 90's Tooth & Nail, but made an image and musical pivot at just exactly the right time, along with a crop other emerging bands from the southeast, which in turn helped Tooth & Nail pivot and transition to a new era.  Tooth & Nail has just acquired Takehold Records and its founder, Chad Johnson, to be head of A&R, and his connections began to pay off.   Ad || Zip Recruiter: ziprecruiter.com/LABELED   https://labeledpodcast.com/ Support Labeled on Patreon  Join Labeled on Facebook   SONGS YOU HEARD ON THIS EPISODE: Anberlin “Feel Good Drag”Ghoti Hook “Body Juggler”Plankeye “Goodbye”The Juliana Theory “We're at the Top of the World”Further Seems Forever “The Moon Is Down”Watashi Wa “Ten Years and Separating States”SAGOH 24/7 “Days Of Our Lives”Anberlin “Ready Fuels”Anberlin “Foriegn Language”Anberlin “Hello Alone”Anberlin “Breaking”Anberlin “Paperthin Hymn”    MORE FROM TOOTH & NAIL: * Labeled: Music From The Podcast: smarturl.it/labeledplaylist * DISCOVER IT: New Tracks from T&N Records: smarturl.it/TNNDiscover * This Is Solid State: New Tracks from Solid State Records: https://spoti.fi/2CUCsaH    * Tooth & Nail Store (LABELED Patreon members get 20% off everything): tnn.lnk.to/store

Chapter 13 We now continue to move into the 2000’s era of Tooth & Nail Records. Brandon has sold half of the company to EMI and has purchased and absorbed Takehold Records, which brought its founder Chad Johnson on staff. Heavy music was continuing to explode, but also, in keeping with the Tooth and Nail style, Brandon and the staff continued to try to break and include a very wide variety of artists, including a very happy and poppy rock outfit from San Luis Obispo, CA, called Watashi Wa. Fronted by yet another young man who grew up as a Tooth & Nail kid, Seth Roberts joins Labeled to help paint the picture of that time and the unique challenges they faced. Iron sharpens iron? You'll have to be the judge. Chad Johnson, an old time friend of Matt and Toby's and founder of ComeandLive.com and TakeHold Records, joins us with David Pierce, Ben Pierce (Steiger.org), all three bringing a different angle of what it means to be a Christian.  Should Toby and Matt be more evangelical at Emery shows? Why did Aaron Gillespie, due to using some choice words, get the boot from speaking at a Steiger event?  How vital to the gospel is the message of sanctification? Do we pick and choose what qualifies as sanctification and overlook possibly more important examples? Lastly, Joey admits to a stark example of him being a sexist in the workplace.   Sponsors and Links: http://badchristianmedia.com  Join the BC Club - http://thebcclub.com Blue Apron - http://blueapron.com/badchristian  ProFlowers - http://proflowers.com Promo code BADCHRISTIAN Tooth and Nail - "Cold Winter Sun" by Demon Hunter from their album "Outlive" available now Wondery - Subscribe to "I Hate My Boss" wherever you listen to podcasts! http://www.emerymusic.com/ http://www.breakitdownpodcast.net/
