Nad Frekvenco X bo tokrat oblačno nebo. A ti oblaki ne bodo iz vodne pare, ampak iz tisočev strežnikov. Kar navadili smo se reči, da je nekaj shranjeno v oblaku, pa bolj redko pomislimo, kaj oblak sploh je. Razmislili bomo torej o shranjevanju podatkov, delovanju strežniških centrov, nadzorom nad njimi, njihovo fizično lokacijo in predvsem porabo energije. Veliki podatkovni centri bodo namreč do leta 2030 porabili dvakrat več električne energije kot danes - pa že danes največji med njimi porabijo toliko energije, kot je proizvede NEK. V Frekvenci X torej tudi o vplivu vaših starih elektronskih sporočil na okolje. Gosti: dr. Matej Huš, Kemijski inštitut dr. Kako vemo, da voda, ki priteče iz pipe, ne vsebuje zdravju škodljivih snovi? Ali pa, da nesreča, pri kateri se razlijejo nevarne kemikalije, ne bo ogrozila našega zdravja ali okolja? Vsaka nesreča - naravna ali ne - pri kateri obstaja sum na prisotnost škodljivih snovi, zahteva hitro odzivanje. V takšnih situacijah nam na pomoč ne priskočijo zgolj gasilci, reševalne službe ali ekipe prve pomoči, temveč tudi znanstveniki in znanstvenice, ki na licu mesta izvedejo meritve. Z nami je profesorica doktorica Tea Zuliani, raziskovalka na Odseku za znanosti o okolju IJS. Poleg njenega osrednjega raziskovalnega področja, ki je vezano na raziskovanje škodljivih snovi v okolju, že dobro leto vodi Mobilni kemijski laboratorij - terensko enoto, ki se ob različnih nesrečah, pri katerih obstaja možnost onesnaženja, odpravi na teren, oceni stopnjo nevarnosti in predlaga možna ukrepanja. Spoznali bomo, kako dobro je za nepredvidljive situacije na terenu opremljen takšen - mobilni - laboratorij. Kako se terensko delo razlikuje od običajnega dne na inštitutu? In kako se znanost spopada z neznanko, kot je nevarna neznana snov. V času, ko v okolje spuščamo vedno več potencialno škodljivih snovi, pa je na mestu tudi vprašanje, ali je nevarne snovi, ko so enkrat v okolje vnesene, te iz njega sploh možno odstraniti oziroma omejiti njihovo razširjanje.

Kvantni računalniki bodo kos nalogam, ki jim niti najzmogljivejši superračunalniki niso. Med drugim bi kaj zlahka strli enkripcijo, ki danes ščiti naše digitalne podatke. Prav zato se zdaj zelo intenzivno, tudi pri nas, razvija kvantne komunikacije, ki bi bile varne pred tovrstnimi vdori.Možnosti, ki se bodo odprle z zmogljivostmi kvantnih računalnikov in z drugimi kvantnimi tehnologijami, bodo temeljito poglobile naše razumevanje dogajanja na nano nivoju, na ravni molekul in atomov torej, ter s tem prinesle izreden pospešek na številnih področjih; od razvoja zdravil do novih materialov. Prav zato govorimo kar o drugi kvantni revoluciji. O drugi pa zato, ker je že samo odkritje principov kvante mehanike pred sto leti prineslo ne samo novo razumevanje, kako deluje vesolje na najmanjšem nivoju, ampak je to znanje tudi nujni sestavni del cele palete danes samoumevnih tehnologij; od računalniških mikročipov, GPS-ja, sončnih celic, laserjev, slikanja z magnetno resonanco in številnih drugih.Kaj dejansko prinaša druga kvantna revolucija in kaj vse se razvija pri nas, so v tokratni Intelekti osvetlili prof. dr. V današnji oddaji se bomo spomnili pred 12 leti preminule slovenske raziskovalke in znanstvenice prof.dr. Marije Kosec. Bila je priznana strokovnjakinja za napredne materiale, med drugim tudi predsednica Znanstvenega sveta Inštituta Jožef Stefan. Rojena je bila 2 leti po koncu 2. svetovne vojne, odšla pa je med božičnimi prazniki konec leta 2012. Za seboj je pustila kopico rešenih in zastavljenih raziskovalnih ciljev, predvsem pa svojo neizmerno človeško energijo. Dejavnik, ki ga ne morejo zaobjeti nobene raziskovalne točke katerega koli urada za raziskave tega sveta. Bila je profesorica za materiale na ljubljanski Naravoslovno tehnični fakulteti, Mednarodni podiplomski šoli Jožefa Stefana in gostujoča profesorica na javni tehnični univerzi École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, na univerzah Šizuoka in Hamamatsu. Bila je vodja Odseka za elektronsko keramiko na IJS in vodja takratnega Centra odličnosti NAMASTE. Bila je Ambasadorka znanosti Republike Slovenije in dobitnica državne Zoisove nagrade ter Puhovega priznanja za razvojne dosežke. Bila pa je tudi ena redkih Evropejk, prejemnic nagrade "Ferroelectrics Recognition Award", ki so ji jo kolegi podelili leta 2010. Takrat je tudi nastal pogovor, ki ga bomo predvajali v spomin na pokojno znanstvenico Marijo Kosec. Sogovornica je bila po osnovni izobrazbi kemičarka, ki se je zaradi profesionalnih izzivov že na začetku svoje raziskovalne poti soočila z vrhunskimi raziskovalci na področju fizike.

Rabbi Josh Feigelson was appointed Executive Director of IJS in January 2020 and became President & CEO in April 2022. He received ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School in 2005, and served for six years as the Hillel Rabbi at Northwestern University, where he also earned a PhD in Religious Studies. In 2011, Josh helped found and served as Executive Director of Ask Big Questions, an initiative of Hillel International, which won the inaugural Lippman-Kanfer Prize for Applied Jewish Wisdom. Josh has also been a consultant and Senior Fellow at The iCenter for Israel Education. Most recently he served as Dean of Students at the University of Chicago Divinity School. Josh is a Wexner Graduate Fellow and was the founding co-chair of the Wexner Fellowship Alumni Committee. He is the author of Eternal Questions: Reflections, Conversations, and Jewish Mindfulness Practices for the Weekly Torah Portion (Ben Yehuda Press, 2022). Josh lives with his wife Natalie and their three sons in Skokie, IL.

De nachtmerrie van Google komt uit: het krijgt er nog een concurrent bij. Van een bedrijf dat al bewezen heeft heel succesvol te kunnen zijn. ChatGPT-maker OpenAI komt namelijk met SearchGPT, een zoekmachine die informatie van websites voor je kan samenvatten. Google drijft op de inkomsten van de zoekmachine, kan het wel de aller grootste blijven? Verder deze aflevering: een beursbedrijf dat geld afpakt van aandeelhouders. We hebben het over FlowTraders dat toch geen dividend gaat uitkeren, maar dat geld gebruikt om te handelen.  Je hoort over Nike, dat op slinkse wijze belasting ontwijkt. Dat doet het via Azië, maar ook via ons land.  Apple is in China uit de top 5 van grootste smartphoneverkopers gevallen. Tegen de eigen regels in verlaagde het al eens de prijzen van iPhones, gaat Apple dat nog eens doen? Minder vragen zijn er bij Heijmans en Basic-Fit. Die lieten zien dat ze minder verdienden door streaming en abonnementen. Dus wilden beleggers wilden massaal van hun aandeel af. De beurskoers praktisch onthoofd. Brussel start een onderzoek naar de drie techreuzen. Met de nieuwe techwet moest er een einde komen aan hun monopolie. Maar amper twee weken na de invoering lijkt de EU ze al te betrappen. Apple, Meta en Google-moeder Alphabet zouden nog steeds niet aan de regels voldoen. En dus is de volgende stap: een boete van tot wel tien procent van de wereldwijde omzet. Blijven ze doorgaan met het negeren van de regels, dan wordt dat zelfs twintig procent. Hoe serieus moeten we dat nemen?  In deze aflevering bespreken we de impact van zo'n boete. En los daarvan moet ook het verdienmodel van de bedrijven serieus op de schop. Zo moet Apple concurrentie van buiten de App Store toelaten. En Meta's betaalde, reclamevrije abonnement wordt waarschijnlijk nu alweer de nek omgedraaid. In China pakken ze het nóg rigoureuzer aan. Overheidscomputers mogen niks meer te maken hebben met processoren van Intel en AMD, en het besturingssysteem van Microsoft, Windows. Dat is een reactie op eerdere maatregelen vanuit de VS. President Joe Biden verbiedt zijn bedrijven om veel van hun chips naar China te sturen omdat die zouden worden gebruikt voor spionage of zelfs militaire doeleinden. En bij Boeing is het einde verhaal voor de topman en twee van zijn medebestuurders. Die kondigen hun vertrek aan. Dat volgt allemaal op de problemen bij het bedrijf, er vliegen links en rechts panelen en wielen af tijdens vluchten. Dat voorspelt Nico Inberg van De Aandeelhouder. Apple kampt met een trits aan problemen. De week begon met een pijnlijke noodoplossing. Apple loopt zo ver achter op AI-gebied dat het moet aankloppen bij concurrent Google. Maar later deze week werd het pas echt pijnlijk: de Amerikaanse regering spant een proces aan tegen Apple. Na meer dan 100 jaar heeft Unilever geen trek meer in ijs. De ijsdivisie, met merken als Magnum en Ben & Jerry's, gaat in de verkoop. True friendship, just like service, requires inconvenience. If someone isn't willing to inconvenience themselves for you then you may have reevaluate your relationship with them. Doesn't mean they are bad people, but it could very well mean y'all not as close as YOU think y'all are. The same goes for you as well, if you aren't willing to inconvenience yourself for someone else then you probably don't consider them a friend. Ijs we all need to think about these things the older we get so we are fully aware of who is a villager and who is a visitor. When we know what circles we fall into we would be more at peace with the people around us. As Senior Core Faculty at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality (IJS), Rabbi Sam Feinsmith directs the Clergy Leadership Program and serves on the faculty of Yesod: Foundations for Deepening Jewish Mindfulness Meditation. He is passionate about practicing and teaching Jewishly-grounded mindfulness meditation and teaching Hasidic text through a mindfulness lens, making these texts accessible to spiritual seekers who don't have the knowledge or skill to access them on their own. Before joining the faculty of IJS in 2016, he taught Judaic Studies at Chicagoland Jewish High School, Illinois, and the Heschel School in New York, where he spearheaded initiatives to foster teen spirituality and mindfulness as foundations for lifelong thriving and love of Jewish learning.He is a co-founder of Orot: Center for New Jewish Learning, a hub for contemplative Jewish learning and living.
