SHY, LOW are true masters of the exquisite craft of stark contrasts and broad dynamics, from delicate crescendos to the grandiose power of the riff… a craft that lies at the heart of every outstanding instrumental rock record. With Snake Behind The Sun the Richmond, Virginia-based four-piece has made an epic album brimming with creativity, groove, heaviness, and truly outstanding songwriting -- a record that is intricate and mature, yet gloriously anthemic at the same time. Indeed, Snake Behind The Sun is an astounding and immensely diverse record that will appeal to fans sitting on all ends of the broad spectrum of modern heavy rock music Snake Behind The Sun is available on CD, LP, and digital formats. Find preorders at THIS LOCATION. Fans of Pg. Lost, This Will Destroy You, Caspian, And So I Watch You From Afar, Russian Circles, Thrice, etc. pay heed. Recorded, mixed, and produced at Vudu Studios in Long Island, New York by Mike Watts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, Hopesfall, Tides Of Man), SHY, LOW's Snake Behind The Sun pulls from elements from previous eras of the band, but also pushes into new territory. The result is a slicker, more modern, layered three-dimensional sound. “The recipe for achieving that began with a lot of pre-production on our end,” comments guitarist Zak Bryant. “We demoed the entire record at home prior to entering the studio, reworking some songs several times before calling them done. From there, it was Mike [Watts]. After hearing his work with bands like O'Brother, Lume, Glassjaw, and others, we grew very fond of the drum sounds he got, and his ear for overall mix balance and production.” The other important ingredient was drummer Dylan Partridge -- who at the time of recording, was a commissioned drummer and is now a fix band member -- and the phenomenal drum room at Vudu Studios. These two elements were crucial in creating the overall vibe and atmosphere for the record. “Holing up in the studio for three weeks to track the record was extremely beneficial and something none of us had done in the past -- it gave us the ability to really fine tune the songs alongside a producer, and the ability to experiment with various gear not normally at our disposal,” recalls Bryant. The album title is a metaphor for the notion that darkness and negativity can remain hidden even among seemingly positive forces and positive beings in one's life. As a matter of fact, the snake crawled out from behind the sun, while the band was in the studio recording the album: “By week three, there were talks of New York state locking down; with one day left before the lock down was alleged to go into effect, it became a mad dash to finish tracking the record so we could book it home to Richmond, Virginia,” says bass player Drew Storcks. Hopesfall is a very influential post hardcore/spirit filled hardcore band. They emerged in the North Carolina scene and the greater Southeast with bands like Beloved, Stretch Armstrong, he is legend, Underoath and Luti-Kriss around 2000. they were a Furnacefest band and a Cornerstone band. They were signed to Takehold Records who was acquired by Tooth and Nail in 2003 but due to some changes in the bands lineup and other factors, Hopesfall rejected the opportunity to be on Solidstate at that time and was allowed to instead sign to Trustkill records. This conversation begins with me and Brandon Ebel talking about how he wanted Hopesfall, but it wasn't meant to be. Did you know that makeup and carnivals are actually really scary? We are dreadfully aware of this fact, and in order to make sense of the Swedish metal band Avatar, we had to call Geoff out of retirement to explain it. Had Avatar always planned on being a band strong on image, and small on substance? Or did they actually start out as one of Sweden’s premier melodic death metal bands? Nu-Metal May rolls on with P.O.D. on this episode of Discography Discussion. P.O.D. was the band in the late 90’s that made “Christian rock” acceptable for the masses. It’s hard to talk about a band that objectively had a major influence in the post 9/11 music scene. We decided to call in Bryan Patton of the “As the Story Grows” podcast to help us shine some light on these innovators. Also, Bryan gives his thoughts on Norma Jean, as well as some Hopesfall insight that Dan is especially interested in. #discussmetal #PayableOnDeath #POD #AsTheStoryGrows #BryanPatton Bryan Patton and As The Story Grows can be found at http://www.asthestorygrows.com && http://bit.ly/AsTheStoryGrows Join our Patreon: Discography Discussion on Patreon - http://bit.ly/discussmetalpatreonDiscography Discussion Podcast Homepage - http://bit.ly/DiscographyDiscussionSubscribe to RSS - http://feeds.feedburner.com/danandjoeshow Listen to Discography Discussion on Spotify - http://bit.ly/discussmetalspotifyDiscography Discussion on Apple Podcasts/iTunes - http://bit.ly/discussmetalitunesDiscography Discussion on Google Play - http://bit.ly/discussmetalgoogleplayListen on Stitcher - http://bit.ly/discussmetalstitcherWatch/Listen on Youtube - http://bit.ly/discussmetalyoutubeListen on TuneIn - http://bit.ly/discussmetaltunein Join the conversation on Discord - http://bit.ly/discussmetalDiscordFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/DiscographydiscussionTwitter - https://twitter.com/discussmetalTumblr - https://danandjoeshow.tumblr.com Questions? Episode 240 - Great show today with Josh Brigham from Hopesfall talking to me about melodic hardcore, religion and ultimately, not fitting in. Hopesfall was an important band to me and many others in the late 90’s and early 2000’s that were doing something slightly unconventional in combining atmospheric rock with melodic hardcore and pulled it off with great affect. Today we welcome Josh Brigham and Adam Morgan from Hopesfall. I got to see this band when they first started and been friends with them ever since. I was so happy to hear about their recent news of reissuing vinyl and new music. Josh, Adam and I discuss the reasons behind the return, what’s in store for the future, embarrassing stories and the eras Hopesfall went through and what they learned. Plenty of inside jokes and laughs in this one for everyone to enjoy. If you haven’t heard the band and want a starting point, check out Magnetic North or No Wings to Speak Of EP.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/washedupemo)

Ryan Parrish (Hopesfall, Celebrity, In Parallel) was able to have the rare privilege of recording an album produced by one of his favorite artists (Matt Talbott of Hum) and then later becoming part of a band he was a fan of when he joined Celebrity after being a founding member and guitarist of the band Hopesfall. But it all started with One Amazing Kid, Strongarm and the search for music with a message that was both beautiful and heavy.
