Pack your bags and turn in your keys, friends, because our time in this neighborhood has come to a close. We’ve finally reached the season finale as we discuss episode 46 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Can you believe I’ve written forty-five of these things?
Our time with the Boys & Girls is coming to an end, and it’s time to address the things left unsaid. We’re thinking about the future this week as we discuss episode 45 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Masako gives her answer, Riko enjoys small town fame, and Hayato decides to live his life like a shojo manga hero.
Life in the neighborhood got thrown into chaos last week and now we’re here trying to pick up the pieces. Emotions ran high, and now it’s time to process it all as we discuss episode 44 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Riko gets trampled, Hayato puts his big villain shoes on, and somehow, despite it all, Arman keeps us rooting for heterosexual love.
Not from successful love alone, Nor wealth, nor honor'd middle age, nor victories of politics or war; But as life wanes, and all the turbulent passions calm, As gorgeous, vapory, silent hues cover the evening sky, As softness, fulness, rest, suffuse the frame, like freshier, balmier air, As the days take on a mellower light, and the apple at last hangs really finish'd and indolent-ripe on the tree, Then for the teeming quietest, happiest days of all! The brooding and blissful halcyon days! (We’re discussing episode 43 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City, and it has possibly broken us.)
We’re in the final stretch of the season and things are getting dire in the neighborhood as we discussed episode 42 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Arman has a scare, the camera loves Masako, and Hayato proves that he might actually have a bit of a spine after all! It’s another odd one, lads.
Please, listener, what time is it? Episode forty, you say? But that cannot be right, it’s been episode forty for twenty years!!! The concept of time itself falls apart around us as we discuss episode 41 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Misaki laughs too much, everyone gets weirdly frisky, and Masako is just about ready to set the world ablaze and watch it burn.
Strap on in, friends, for one really weird episode. There’s something in the water this week as we discuss episode 40 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Byrnes doesn’t think things through, Masako poisons the house, and EVERYONE gets familiar. Like really, really familiar.
Turn in your pointe shoes because it’s time for what we hope is the last big member shake-up of the season! There are only a handful of episodes left as we discuss episode 39 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Momoka has a harsh realization, Arman goes for a swim, and Misaki and Byrnes continue to be entirely wholesome. Healthy communication and boundaries in *my* Terrace House??? It’s more likely than you’d think.
(This is an audio rip of our special video episode. We recommend you stream the video here: https://youtu.be/dfIfkONksYQ The audio is slightly less horrendous.) We’re coming to you live* from Tokyo, AND on video, AND with terrible audio quality!!! We’re really really quite sorry about that, but hopefully being able to see our expressions can take the edge off? This week, we’re discussing episode 38 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Momoka faces her future face-on, Hayato finds himself at a crossroads, and Byrnes is probably too smitten for his own good. *not live, very much recorded
‘Tis a time of change here in the neighborhood as new bonds are forged and old ones are shaken. Prepare thyself for emotional highs AND lows as we discuss episode 37 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Hayato has a realization, Byrnes is easily delighted, and our hosts screech into the heavens, “we told you so!”
Blow your nose and wipe away your tears because it’s time to put the past behind us and look into the beautiful, chiseled future! It’s Yuuto who??? here in the neighborhood as we discuss episode 36 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Riko has craft time, Misaki gets a second chance, and our new housemate is so dreamy that we all think we can learn to love again.
All good things must come to an end, friends. We finish another chapter this week as we discuss episode 35 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Riko continues to fret, Yuuto confesses his love, and we all have a good cry. Catharsis!
You know that gene that makes cilantro taste like soap? And no matter how little cilantro is in a dish, the soap taste is so strong that it dominates everything else? Just like cilantro, we’ve got one talking point as we discuss episode 34 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Arman gets involved, Taylor talks idols, and Hayato somehow has not even been a little bit murdered yet.
It’s a post-Hayato world and we’re just living in it. We fully embody that Larry David gif this week as we discuss episode 33 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. The tenets of yakiniku are broken, Arman powers up, and Hayato continues to make everything deeply uncomfortable. This is just our lives now, I guess.
It’s another week of emotional whiplash as we get yanked from despair to excitement to despair again. Strap on in, steel yourself, and join us as we discuss episode 32 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Hikaru has more friends than we thought, two new additions join the house, and Natsumi goes out in the most poetic way possible: not with a bang but a whimper.
Hey, Listener, take a seat, we need to have a talk. It’s rejection week here in the neighborhood as we discuss episode 31 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. We got romantic rejection, platonic rejection, rejection for all occasions! Hikaru makes a choice, Misaki puts her foot down, and Natsumi am feel uncomfortable when we are not about me?
I have to warn you, there is nothing to be found in this episode but pure, unfettered heterosexuality. This is the kind of episode that prompted filmmakers in the 80s and 90s to wonder if men and women can truly be friends. It’s episode 30 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City! Natsumi refuses any and all character development, Hikaru continues to put in the least amount of effort, and Misaki takes a leap of faith. We will now be a Fire Emblem podcast from here on out.
You know how sitcoms will sometimes shoehorn in a new baby when the original baby starts getting too old? I don’t know where I’m going with this, but it’s something to mull over as we discuss episode 29 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. The house gets a new little sister character, Taylor talks school-sanctioned beauty pageants, and Misaki tries to do a Seduction. Yes, Terrace House is THAT kind of anime.
Sometimes real human relationships are sloppy, with no real sense of continuity or consistency. In fact, we’re ALL breaking character this week as we discuss episode 28 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Arisa invents the concept of hats, Hikaru is overcome with teenage angst, and Yuuto reveals a fault.
You know that feeling you get when things have been going TOO well lately and you keep waiting for something terrible to happen? Well, that’s the feeling we’re starting to have this week as we discuss episode 27 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Hikaru continues to act his age (12?), Misaki and Natsumi do a bamboozle, and Arisa makes a shocking announcement: that she knows how to use a hammer.
Oh my god, guys, you’ll NEVER believe what episode 26 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City texted us last night. I think it’s totally into us! This week, Hikaru commits a coffee crime, Arman is but a whisper upon the wind, and every single person in this dang house embodies the eyes emoji. You know the one.
Okay, guys, so if you want to be a member of the Prince’s fan club, you have to remember the number one rule: he belongs to ALL of us, so no trying to get him for yourself. Sound good? Okay, then let’s discuss episode 25 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Natsumi continues to make poor life choices, Hikaru finally acts his age, and the world lets out a collective sigh as it all at once falls in love with our newest housemate. Let’s make him president.
Patience will be rewarded, friends, and boy were we patient! Things are a little bit brighter here in the neighborhood as we discuss episode 24 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. An era comes to a close, we make a new friend, Hikaru continues to be the absolute worst, and our hosts confront their own mortality. The future is bright!
Terrace Neighbors officially turns one year old this week and yet we’re still trapped within the purgatorial hellscape that has become Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Arman does some soul-searching, Uchi takes the world’s longest stress nap, and things become Flirty in a way that no one should be comfortable with. Everyone needs to just go to bed!!!!!
This week’s episode is a short one, friends, because discussing the meat incident comes at a price that no man should have to pay. It’s episode 22 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City! Not a single person makes a good decision. That’s it. That’s the episode.
It’s our twentieth episode, and we completely forgot to get ourselves anything! In fact, there is absolutely no fun or excitement or festivity to be found this week as we discuss episode 21 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Natsumi continues to be great at making friends, Uchi changes allegiances, and Taylor gets various pets involved in the discussion. Take a seat, we have some things to discuss – as a family.
We had a good run, friends, we really did, but we all knew we’d have to face the harsh realities of life someday. This week, we say goodbye to the idealistic naivety of youth as we discuss episode 20 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Arman finally gets a job, Hikaru alarms us, and Natsumi decides to burn bridges before she’s even had a chance to cross. Real fun episode, you guys.
It’s out with the old, in with the new here in the neighborhood as we begin the second half of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. And boy, do we have a lot of ground to cover, holidays to speed run, and new friends to embrace. The Armanisa (we’ll workshop it) romance comes to a head, Taylor sings, and a new face learns about doorbells for the first time. We can tell, 2016 is really gonna be our year.
Dig out your rattiest college sweatshirt, prepare your most boring anecdotes, and get your ghosting finger ready, because it’s time for some bad dates! This week, it’s all about the pitfalls of romance as we discuss episode 18 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Christmas is fast approaching, Minori and Uchi FINALLY put on their Grown-up Pants, and Arman looks deep into the eyes of death, and by gum, if death doesn’t look him in the eyes back.
The first act of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City is coming to a close as we discuss episode 17, and important questions are finally being asked this week. Will Uchi and Minori’s love stand the test of time? What will Mizuki and Yuki do next? Why do all these city kids have driver’s licenses? We don’t really get clear answers, but Arman does punch some people! That should tide us over for the time being.
The world is made up of losers and winners, kid, and the only thing that decides where you end up is how badly you want it. Alphas and betas, my child, alphas and betas. This week, we’re discussing episode 16 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City, and the line between the two has been drawn. Yuki makes a last-ditch effort, Arisa wields the power of a wholesale juggernaut, and Mizuki settles into her role as “best friend” in this romcom posing as reality television. It’s all about the haves and the have-nots. Please buy my book.
It's a quiet week here in the neighborhood, a little break after the emotional turmoil of last episode, as we discuss episode 15 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Every good story needs contemplative scenes between the action, and this is indeed a week of contemplation. Mizuki does some soul-searching, our hosts face old age hurtling toward them, and Uchi/Minori have an important talk, presumably before fading into the Void, because we cannot dedicate anymore of our lives to this relationship!!!!!
All good (?) things must come to an end, and it’s the start of a new era in the house this week as Taylor and Courtney discuss episode eleven of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Makoto gets replaced, our hosts explain foreigner etiquette, and Mizuki finally starts to get the recognition she deserves. Also, to celebrate our tenth episode, Courtney and Taylor answer your questions! Thank you so much for listening!!!!
It’s time for another new episode, and our hosts have braved HURRICANES and MILD CALIFORNIA WEATHER to bring it to you. This week, we discuss episode ten of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City, and the people in the house are finally starting to really pair off. Our faves continue to be wholesome and perfect, Taylor talks J-pop, and Makoto is cutting his losses while he’s ahead.
It’s been a tough race, guys, one with lots of close calls and surprise twists, but the votes are in and it’s time to crown the Best Boy of them all. Will it be Uchi? Will it be Yuki? We know it’s not Makoto. It’s very likely it’s Mizuki! This week, we discuss episode nine of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Courtney teaches us how to make soba, Taylor delivers a soliloquy, we put on our conspiracy theory tin foil hats, and the day ranges from GOOD to… well… at least tomorrow might be better.
It’s pool day you guys!!!! Pool day!!! It’s in the title!!!! POOL!!!!!!!!!! This week, we’ve got our swimsuits on and our inner tubes inflated and we’re here to talk about episode eight of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Makoto goes through a rebellious phase, Uchi reaps the fruit of his Uchi labor, and Courtney unravels the greatest bedding mystery of all time. Pun intended.
We’re almost two months in and the dating drama continues as we discuss episode seven of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. This week, rivals bump heads, Courtney is pool-thirsty, the girls in the house demonstrate bad taste in boys, and Taylor discovers her new life calling. Love being back in high school.
It’s Uchi Week, and Courtney and Taylor are here to walk you through dating in Tokyo as we discuss episode six of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Yuki tap dances, Taylor talks shonen manga, and the boys in the house continue to be awful. With so many dates this week, who will be crowned Goofus and who will be crowned Gallant? Spoiler alert: they’re both Uchi.
Listen, every great institution is built on rules. Where would humanity be without them? This week, Courtney and Taylor bring some wisdom to the unwashed masses as we discuss episode four of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. The excitement is finally starting to ramp up, there’s drinking in public, and we go on a tour of Tokyo wildlife that absolutely no one asked for but we are more than happy to provide.
Things take a sharp turn for the bummer as we discuss episode three of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Relationships progress, dreams are challenged, and a villain comes to rise, which is a lot darker than we thought our second episode would be. Maybe if we talk about food enough, we’ll feel better.
Welcome to the maiden voyage of the Terrace Neighbors podcast! This week, we discuss episodes one and two of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. There are a lot of new faces to learn, names to mess up, and character types to establish, but one thing for sure is clear: we’ve got a crush on everybody. And we mean EVERYBODY. Thanks again to @cutethlulu for our adorable artwork!
The chopping block: Ex Machina (2014), Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City (2015) Jacob tells us of Hawaiian Prince Valiant, Sam finds a villain (if you must have one), and we get a little lost in the AI stuff, honestly. Theme by Irritating Rainbow (iTunes) Produced by Sam Young
