Ordinary items take on new meanings when you cast them in different light. The origins of tea, coffee and sugar are well known, but when you discover that gym treadmills were pioneered on plantations or that denim jeans were once clothing for enslaved people, you can't help but ask where else the legacy of slavery hides in plain sight. Our featured guest in this episode is Leslie Lauer, Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at RBC Wealth Management. Leslie specializes in ESOPs, and shared some highlights of her years of experience as a trusted advisor. Leslie's background in banking and accounting was the foundation for her career path to advising on deal structure for ESOPs. She's also a former entrepreneur herself (a company owned by an ESOP) which takes her advice from a theoretical perspective to a practical one. Her Board positions with ESOP organizations like the National Center for Employee Ownership give her an edge that's rare in a space that can be misunderstood and therefore underutilized as an exit option. We unpacked some of the nuances of ESOPs and realized we'd need a Part 2, so look out for that soon. While she was on the show, Leslie took the time to explain what an ESOP actually is for our listeners who may not be as familiar:A Transition ToolA Retirement PlanA Tool for Deferred Growth. In addition, we talked about how ESOP is a Defined Contribution Plan, similar to a 401K Plan. ESOPs are governed by ARISA and follow compliance regulations set forth by the Department of Labor and the IRS. That may sound complicated, but if you have someone like Leslie to help facilitate and bring the team together, it can be a fantastic way for all stakeholders to win. You can contact Leslie here to get your questions answered, whether you are an advisor or business owner.Connect with Julie Keyes, Keyestrategies LLCFounder, Consultant, Author, Pod-caster and Instructor
In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes forty-seven through fifty of Fruits Basket (2019)! In episode forty-seven, Yuki and Manabe discuss Tohru and the nature of Yuki's feelings towards her. Tohru's class decides to rewrite Cinderella to fit their odd casting choices. In episode forty-eight, it's showtime! Cinderella-ish is a hilarious success, despite an out of character outburst from Tohru at the end of the show, causing Kyo to wonder about her true feelings towards him. In episode forty-nine, Yuki makes sure to include Machi in the student council's plans to celebrate the end of the school year together. It's also time for the New Year's banquet at the Sohma estate, which results in an unsettling exchange between Akito and Yuki around forgiveness of one another. Tohru spends the holiday with Kyo, Kazuma, and Rin at Kazuma's dojo. Tohru's wish for the new year is for the Sohma's curse to be broken. In episode fifty, Kureno laments to Tohru about his feelings for Arisa. Shigure and Tohru learn the true nature of Kureno's bond to Akito. It's finale time! Grab your spoon, and let's dig in! Note from Giana: I'm sorry for any background noise bleeding through! The apartment I moved into over the summer is next to a really busy intersection, and my neighbors are noisy both downstairs and next door. Episodes recorded here may have less than perfect audio until I move somewhere hopefully quieter in June of 2025. Thanks for understanding!
