Tanya Talaga does not need an introduction at this point: she is an award-winning Canadian journalist and author of Polish and Indigenous descent, and the First Ojibway woman to deliver the CBC Massey Lectures. Her book Seven Fallen Feathers, a national bestseller that tells the story of even Indigenous high school students who mysteriously died in Thunder Bay, won the 2018 RBC Taylor Prize. Through her work, Tanya shares Indigenous stories from across Turtle Island and the world, humanizing the legacy of residential schools and colonization and sharing her hope for a more inclusive and equitable future. Tanya’s great-grandmother was a residential school survivor and her great-grandfather was an Ojibwe trapper and labourer. Today Tanya works for The Globe and Mail, after spending most her career at The Toronto Star. In this conversation, Tanya speaks to host Shayla Oulette Stonechild about her motivation to write and share Indigenous stories for greater representation, of the impact her writing can have to defend human rights, and she speaks of the matriarchs who have influenced her along the way. And you'll definitely want to hear her intro to the Seven Truths. ... Follow Tanya on Twitter Follow Shayla Oulette Stonechild on Instagram Visit thebrandisfemale.com.

Is the present-day overcome with self-doubt, self-criticism, comparison, and thoughts of unworthiness? Tanya Ouhrabka is a Life Coach for women and girls struggling with inner alignment and connection to self. Tanya’s mission is to support women in REGAINING their sense of self and inner power, and support girls in RETAINING it before it fades away. Having grown up in an alcoholic home and subsequently suffered feelings of worthless, not being enough, being too much, and disconnected from herself for much of her life, Tanya knows firsthand what it means to live life without an inner connection. She also knows that the moment we stop looking for answers externally and turn inward, transformation happens. Today Tanya is a married mother of three children, raising her family in Rhode Island. She supports women and girls through one on one and group coaching, workshops, and speaking engagements. In this episode, Tanya digs deep, reveals her story, and explains how she went from feeling powerless into feeling powerful. We can make our lives the way we want them to be; it needs to come from the inside. Sometimes we feel like we are on a conveyor belt in life; when we are continually trying to fix what is going on, we get so drained. Peace is always within us; we have to slow down, trust, and surrender. Stay tuned to hear Tanya explain how to connect with our powers, the importance of gratitude, and the ways we can start to trust ourselves. Tanya Chernova is an accomplished and passionate professional speaker, coach, and author. Tanya, originally from Russia, has traveled all over the world to help her clients get to the next level in their business. Today, she currently resides in Toronto, Canada, where she was awarded Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, in 2013. Today Tanya and I discuss how to overcome limiting beliefs and become a better leader. The brain processes the goals that you set from two different places -- the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. The conscious mind, the logical mind, only operates between 1-5% of the day. The unconscious mind, which holds our habits, patterns, and emotions, dictates about 95-99% of our day. Our conscious mind is the one that logically sets our goals, and our subconscious mind helps us go after those goals; it is the goal-getter. However, if you have a limiting belief, your subconscious mind could work against you, and sabotage you, to the point where you feel like you’re procrastinating on your goal. The way we even say our goals can be a trigger for self-sabotage. We used to think self-sabotage, self-doubt, and procrastination were an act, but they’re actually based on your childhood experiences. These young experiences can drastically change how you and your subconscious views the world. So, how can we change our tendencies to sabotage ourselves? By consciously using language to help us reframe our mindset in a way that builds strength. When you’ve set a goal, focus on the journey and the growth it gives you, more than the actual completion of the goal.
