Dr. Jessica Rochester: In an age where plant medicines are paraded like commoditiesand sacred sacraments are filtered through the sterile lens of profit and protocol, there stands a bridge—woven not from theory, but from decades of devotion, grit, and grace.Rev. Dr. Jessica Rochester is that bridge.Madrinha. President. Torchbearer.Founder of Céu do Montréal, the Santo Daime Church she brought into being in 1997—not as a rebellion, but as a restoration of sacred memoryto the North.A transpersonal counselor forged in the crucibles of Assagioli and Grof, she speaks the languages of the soul and the somatic, guiding seekers not around, but through the sacred fire of self-confrontation.She walked the bureaucratic labyrinth from 2000 to 2017,securing a Section 56 Exemption—not for fame, but to protect the sacrament of Santo Daime from the cold fists of the state. She is an ordained Interfaith Minister,a Doctor of Divinity, and an author whose two-volume opus—Ayahuasca Awakening—is less a book and more a mapfor those ready to take off their masksand meet the jaguar within. For over four decades she has led workshops, held private practice, stood at the crossroads of consciousness and culture, teaching not how to escape, but how to embodythe radical act of spiritual adulthood. And today, while the psychedelic renaissance sells peak experiences,Rev. Dr. Jessica Rochester whispers of something older, quieter, stronger—The long walk home. The humble medicine of self-care,self-mastery,and sacred discipline. So if you came for a keynote speaker, step aside. If you came for a true guidebetween the seen and unseen, prepare your heart.Because the Madrinha is not here to entertain you.She is here to remind you who you werebefore the world told you who to be.⸻https://www.revdrjessicarochester.com/https://psychedelicscene.com/2024/06/20/entheogens-psychedelics-nosc-and-the-search-for-wholeness/ Support the show:https://www.paypal.me/Truelifepodcast?locale.x=en_USCheck out our YouTube:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPzfOaFtA1hF8UhnuvOQnTgKcIYPI9Ni9&si=Jgg9ATGwzhzdmjkgGrow your own:https://modernmushroomcultivation.com/This Band Will Blow Your Mind: Codex Serafinihttps://codexserafini.bandcamp.com/album/the-imprecation-of-anima

Wellness expert and author Heather Grzych speaks with health innovator James Maskell about one of today's most pressing health concerns: cognitive decline. James shares his personal story of helping his father recover from severe memory loss due to mold exposure and explains why the current medical model is failing to address conditions like Alzheimer's effectively. The conversation explores the early warning signs of cognitive issues, the importance of community-based care, and how lifestyle factors like sleep, nutrition, and social connection play a critical role in brain health. James also discusses his work at the intersection of functional medicine, technology, and community, including new tools like AI-powered decision support and virtual care groups aimed at reversing cognitive decline and transforming how we deliver healthcare. James Maskell is on a mission to flatten the curve of healthcare costs and has spent the past decade innovating at the cross section of functional medicine and community. To that end, he first created the Functional Forum, the world's largest integrative medicine conference with record-setting participation online and growing physician communities around the world. His first organization, podcast and best selling book of the same name, Evolution of Medicine, prepares health professionals for this new era of personalized, participatory medicine. Since then he has created a number of organizations to scale access to health focused care. His projects include Knew Health (affordable alternative to health insurance acq. 2019) HealCommunity (virtual groups as a service acq 2023, and TruNeura (AI powered decision support for reversing cognitive decline). He also consults startups, healthcare systems and sovereign nations in their efforts to adapt to Non Communicable Disease. He is an in demand speaker, thought leader and impresario, being featured by the World Health Organization, TEDMED, HuffPostLive and TEDx, as well as lecturing to healthcare audiences internationally. He lives in Northern California with his wife and two daughters. www.jamesmaskell.com Heather Grzych, ADLC is an American author and expert in Ayurvedic medicine who was formerly the head of product development for a multi-billion-dollar health insurance company. Today, you're about to meet two people who have not only walked that path—but have become guides for those ready to burn away what no longer serves and to stand in the flame of their own becoming.Patrick and Michele Fishley are the founders of Soul Reflections, the world's first global online Iboga/Ibogaine community—a sanctuary for practitioners, providers, seekers, and visionaries alike. But their story isn't just digital—it's deeply spiritual, rooted in blood, bone, and ancient tradition. They are Ngangas—healers and seers—initiated into the sacred Bwiti traditions of Gabon, recognized by the elders themselves, not just for their knowledge, but for their courage, their humility, and their relentless commitment to truth.Patrick, known in the Bwiti tradition as DIBADI Mabunza Mukuku a Kandja—the warrior with the Bwete force and flames of truth from his mouth—is a Registered Nurse with over three decades of experience in Emergency Rooms, ICUs, and trauma bays. A Medical Director and lead facilitator, he has guided over 1,500 Iboga journeys with a perfect safety record. His work bridges the primal and the clinical, the ancestral and the modern.Michele, known as Yakéta—Mother of Twins, Mother of All—is a Licensed Practical Nurse and a transformational integration coach with over 18 years of acute care experience. She is a fierce and nurturing presence in the space, initiated into the sacred feminine lineages of the Nyèmbè and Mabundi traditions. Michele brings the power of the mother, the healer, and the spiritual midwife into every ceremony, retreat, and conversation.Together, Patrick and Michele have turned their lives into a living ceremony. They carry the medicine not just in their hands, but in their hearts. Through their annual pilgrimages to Gabon, they continue to deepen their commitment to the Bwiti traditions—honoring the land, the elders, and the sacred fire of Iboga.Their mission is simple yet profound: to weave ancient wisdom with modern healing, to create safe, soul-rooted spaces for transformation, and to remind us that real healing is not a transaction—it is a sacred initiation. So if you're ready to hear from two of the most grounded, experienced, and spiritually aligned voices in the Iboga space… buckle up. In this soul-soothing episode of The Skeptic Metaphysicians Present, Will invites us on a serene journey into the heart of mindfulness through a touching story called “The Mindful Fisherman,” drawn from the transformative book The Monk and the Butterfly by Kai T. Murano. Set in a quiet coastal village, the tale follows Esau, an old fisherman who lives with deep intention and quiet reverence for life. Unlike the other villagers rushing to sea, Esau moves slowly—not because of age, but from mindful awareness. When a young man from the city, worn down by the noise and pressure of modern life, encounters Esau, the two embark on a day of fishing that becomes far more than a simple boat ride. ✨ Along the way, Esau imparts profound wisdom:“The sea is like our minds—sometimes calm, sometimes stormy. But always, it is the sea.”“Fishing is not just about the fish—it's about being present with every sense.”Through the ebb and flow of the ocean, the young man rediscovers something he thought he had lost—his peace. And in doing so, he learns that true tranquility isn't found in the escape from life, but in the presence within it.Why You Should Listen This episode is more than a story—it's a meditation in motion. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the speed of life, this beautifully told parable will remind you of the power in slowing down. It offers a timeless lesson: peace is always available, if only we stop to notice it. Whether you're listening during your morning commute, a quiet walk, or while sipping your evening tea, “The Mindful Fisherman” will anchor you in the present moment.Featured Book The Monk and the Butterfly: Stories of Zen and the Art of Change by Kai Team MuranoIf this story touched your heart, you'll want to experience the entire collection. We discuss the importance of maintaining fundamental wellness practices while considering medical interventions as complementary tools rather than replacements. Key Points from this Episode: Understanding the role of pharmaceutical supports, including hormone therapy, weight management medications, and prescribed supplements in modern wellness The critical importance of maintaining fundamental health practices like hydration, sleep, nutrition, mindset, and movement Why taking an integrated approach (combining medical interventions with basic wellness practices) leads to better outcomes This episode emphasizes that while modern medical interventions can be valuable tools in our wellness journey, they work best when built upon a strong foundation of basic health practices. In this week's episode of Sense by Meg Faure, we launch our brand new "Feeding Sense" segment! Paediatric dietician Kath Megaw takes over as guest host. She is joined by Nicole Comninellis, a paediatric physiotherapist. Nicole has a special interest in neurodevelopment and infant digestion. Together, they tackle one of parenting's most common challenges: constipation in babies and toddlers. Understanding Constipation from a Physio's Perspective Kath Megaw introduces the topic, noting that dietary advice alone doesn't always solve constipation. Nicole Comninellis explains how constipation presents differently depending on age. Factors include whether it's a new or chronic issue, and if the child was full-term or preterm. Nicole highlights that repeated stress can create negative neurological pathways. This makes constipation more likely to recur. The Mind-Body Connection in Constipation Nicole explains that stress triggers the "fight or flight" response which inhibits digestion. Helping infants feel safe and calm is key. This allows them to develop a positive internal sense (interoception) of their bodies. For toddlers, autonomy, sensory processing, and personality play a big role. New experiences like starting school or a new sibling can also cause withholding.Practical Strategies for Preventing and Managing Constipation Kath and Nicole discuss actionable tips for parents. For Infants: Understanding normal poo variations is important. Varied holding positions and allowing free movement are crucial. Responding to baby's cues when they need to poo, perhaps by picking them up to let gravity assist, can make a difference. For Toddlers: Beyond a balanced diet and hydration, establishing routines around natural body reflexes (like the urge to poo after meals) is helpful. Encourage chewing as this stimulates the gut. Ample movement, play, and exercise are vital. Tummy massage can aid motility and provide comfort. Creating a safe, supportive, and calm bathroom environment is essential. Positioning: For toddlers using a potty or toilet, ensuring their feet are supported and knees are above their hips is very important. Teaching children to relax rather than just push can also be beneficial. Why You Should Listen This "Feeding Sense" episode offers a holistic view of constipation. Kath Megaw and Nicole Comninellis provide expert insights. They explain that movement, posture, and emotional well-being are as vital as diet. The episode is packed with practical, compassionate strategies. These can help prevent constipation from becoming a chronic issue. It's about making pooing a positive, stress-free experience for your child.Kath Megaw is a leading paediatric dietician with over 20 years of experience in infant and child nutrition. She is the co-author of the book Allergy Sense and specializes in guiding parents through complex feeding challenges. Stacy shares insights from her first off-property trail ride with Ember, revealing a critical moment where riders unknowingly teach their horses problematic behaviors. By identifying the exact instant when most riders make a fundamental mistake at water crossings, Stacy demonstrates how arena training directly transfers to trail success. Key takeaways: When a horse hesitates at obstacles like mud or water, is "go now" REALLY what you want to say? Arena work that develops nuanced communication between horse and rider enables successful navigation of trail challenges Maintaining consistent guidance when horses encounter new situations prevents confusion, unlike the mixed messages This episode examines the direct connection between indoor schooling and outdoor application, demonstrating how the "high school" level subtleties developed in controlled settings become essential tools when facing real-world trail challenges. Riders who struggle with water crossings or similar obstacles will gain actionable insights into how their communication either resolves or creates these common trail problems.

Our healthcare system treats us like it's one size fits all, yet that's not how true healing works, especially when it comes to chronic conditions. Today's guest will help us understand how to fill the gap we experience with Western medicine, including the difference between signs vs. symptoms, and empowers our individualized healthcare. On this episode of Salad with a Side of Fries, host Jenn Trepeck welcomes Functional Medicine Nutritionist and educator Andrea Nakayama to explore why chronic conditions require more than just a diagnosis and a prescription. They unpack Andrea's “three roots, many branches” model, revealing how digestion, inflammation, and genetics lie at the heart of chronic illness—and how nurturing the "soil" around them can lead to true healing. From nutrition habits to the importance of bio-individuality, this conversation empowers you to become an informed partner in your health care. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, who discusses wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE:(00:00) Intro: Our healthcare system is one size fits all(05:08) Andrea shares her motivation for her journey into functional nutrition, and a discussion of Western medicine(07:41) Should every person receive the same treatment for the same chronic condition(11:45) How to choose a guide in the health equation(16:40) Knowing the difference between your signs vs. symptoms(21:59) Andrea walks us through the “three roots and many branches” model(28:36) The roles digestion and inflammation play in our health(33:37) Tiers to nutrition mastery. Tier one is our non-negotiables(36:40) Don't neglect your passion and purpose(38:48) Andrea's non-negotiable trifecta: Sleep, poop, and blood sugarKEY TAKEAWAYS:Chronic health conditions must be understood through a systems-based lens, not just symptom management. Every chronic issue has three core roots—genes, digestion, and inflammation. Healing begins by nurturing these “roots” and the surrounding “soil,” rather than chasing individual symptoms alone. Western medicine excels in acute care but often falls short in managing chronic conditions. Patients are frequently seen through the lens of their diagnosis rather than as whole individuals, resulting in treatments that overlook their unique health histories and personal needs. One of the most powerful tools patients can use is specific, emotion-free communication based on personal health tracking. By clearly distinguishing between signs (measurable indicators like fever or rash) and symptoms (subjective experiences like fatigue or pain) and offering detailed timelines of when and how issues arise, patients empower providers to better understand and address their unique health needs.Supporting foundational health can start with three simple, non-negotiable nutrition habits: include fat, fiber, and protein at every meal or snack to help stabilize blood sugar; eat the rainbow to boost fiber and phytonutrient intake while feeding your microbiome; and know your yes-no-maybe list to understand better how specific foods impact your body. Tracking what makes you feel great, what doesn't, and what you're unsure about builds awareness and equips you to have more productive, personalized conversations with your healthcare provider.QUOTES: (07:41) “The first two gaps I encountered were that people are treated like their diagnosis. So, when you are in the medical system, you are your endometriosis, your fibroids, your breast cancer, your PMS. You are your symptom. The other gap was that everybody with the same symptom or diagnosis was treated the same.” - Andrea Nakayama(09:34) “A chronic condition means you're sick and you're not getting better. There's things going on for a long time, and our medical system isn't trained to address chronic conditions.” Andrea Nakayama(25:32) “The three roots of any chronic condition are always our genes, digestion and inflammation. All three need to be tended to for the branches to express themselves more fully.” - Andrea Nakayama(36:53) “We have an episode called the Longevity Equation, and one about Blue Zones and one of the big factors there that everybody seems to overlook is community and connection.” - Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramNutrition Nugget: Genes and EpigeneticsSalad With a Side of Fries: The Longevity EquationSalad With a Side of Fries: Blue Zones: A Blueprint for Physical and Mental HealthSalad With a Side of Fries: The Down and DirtyGUEST RESOURCES:Andrea Nakayama - WebsiteFunctional Nutrition Alliance - WebsiteAndrea Nakayama - InstagramFunctional Nutrition Alliance - YouTubeAndrea Nakayama - PinterestAndrea Nakayama, Functional Nutritionist & EducatorAndrea Nakayama - Functional Nutrition Alliance | LinkedInGUEST BIOGRAPHY:Andrea is a Functional Medicine Nutritionist and educator who has led thousands of clients and teaches even more coaches and clinicians worldwide. In this unforgettable episode, Robert sits down with the legendary Wim Hof, also known as The Iceman, for a transformative conversation on the true potential of the human mind and body. Together, they explore how deliberate exposure to cold and conscious breathing unlock powerful physiological and spiritual benefits, awakening dormant capacities that modern society has long ignored. Wim shares how his journey began with soul-searching as a teenager and how his instinctive dive into icy waters led to 26 world records and groundbreaking scientific validation. From suppressing inflammatory responses to accessing subcortical brain regions, Wim explains how his method grants access to states once considered superhuman—but are, in truth, innately human. The two also dive deep into hormesis (growth through stress), the role of intention, the power of love over fear, and their shared fascination with the pyramids and the hidden musical geometry of the universe. This episode is a call to awaken, reminding us that the mind is not limited, and that fear, trauma, and suffering can be transmuted into strength, health, and purpose. He's written for medicine carriers and molecule makers, shaped language around trauma, healing, psychedelics, and transformation. But don't mistake him for a marketer. Adam is something else—a translator between the digital world and the ineffable. In this episode, we're not asking how to “scale” or “optimize.”We're asking what happens when the sacred enters the system. When ayahuasca meets analytics. When a keyword becomes a prayer. This isn't a campaign. It's a conversation between worlds. And you're invited to listen in.adammiezio.contently.comadammiezio.contently.comhttps://www.bizdelics.com/ Support the show:https://www.paypal.me/Truelifepodcast?locale.x=en_USCheck out our YouTube:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPzfOaFtA1hF8UhnuvOQnTgKcIYPI9Ni9&si=Jgg9ATGwzhzdmjkgGrow your own:https://modernmushroomcultivation.com/This Band Will Blow Your Mind: Codex Serafinihttps://codexserafini.bandcamp.com/album/the-imprecation-of-anima

Wellness expert and author Heather Grzych explores what it really means to address the root cause of illness – beyond symptoms and surface-level fixes. She shares two compelling case studies: a nurse with a Pitta imbalance and thyroid issues from shift work, and a high-performing executive who thought he had a gluten intolerance, but actually had weakened digestion from overusing supplement drinks. Heather discusses how healing often requires simple-but-not easy changes, and what to do when the source of imbalance isn't something you can just walk away from. Send us a textEver had one of those weeks where everything feels impossible—even the things you normally love? That's exactly what happened as I tried to record this podcast episode. Four separate attempts, four brick walls. But instead of forcing it, I decided to get curious about what was really going on beneath the surface. My body was sending signals through back pain and fatigue that something needed attention. As a Gen X woman, I was trained to power through discomfort—to ignore my needs until breaking point. People used to call me Wonder Woman because I just kept going no matter what. It served me well... until it didn't.Our bodies hold onto everything we've experienced—physical, emotional, spiritual. When we consistently ignore what we need, our bodies eventually force us to stop through pain or illness. But there's another way. By pausing to ask "what do I actually need right now?" we can break the cycle of pushing until we break. This simple practice of presence allows us to tune into our mind, body, and spirit before we reach crisis point. If you're running on empty and struggling to hear what your body is telling you, know that it's not too late to change the pattern. Grab my free guide "Five Ways to Practice Presence" from the show notes and start today. Remember, you don't need permission to take care of yourself—but if you do, consider it granted. The world needs what only you have to offer, but first, you need to take care of the vessel delivering those gifts.5 Ways to Practice Presence

Research suggests that better understanding the psychological and neurological components of chronic pain may lead to better treatments.Chronic pain is remarkably common: Roughly 20% of adults in the US live with it. And people with chronic pain are more likely to have depression, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders. But this relationship between physical and mental health is not as straightforward as you might think, and there's still a stigma attached to neuro-psychological causes of chronic pain. The latest research suggests that untangling the connections between mind and body is a key part of developing better treatments for people with chronic pain. Now, a new psychological treatment called pain reprocessing therapy has shown initial success in eliminating back pain in research participants.Producer Shoshannah Buxbaum joins Host Flora Lichtman to share her reporting on the intersection of mental health and chronic pain.Transcript for this story will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
