Beginning in 2020, Brad Braxton and Anthony Pinn exchanged a series of email conversations that together form the basis for the book A Master Class on Being Human: A Black Christian and a Black Secular Humanist on Religion, Race, and Justice (Beacon Press 2023). In this time of marked polarization in our communal life, the authors embarked on an experiment, attempting in-depth discussions that probed their deep differences about serious topics, with the ultimate goal of promoting constructive engagement, enhanced understanding, and more compassion among people with different identities, beliefs, and practices. Master Class is an exploration of what it means to be human, drawing on each authors' expertise in philosophy, religion, and African American studies. The book covers seven issues of social importance relevant to these theological-philosphical groups, including non-theism, violence against Black Americans and the Black Lives Matter movement, and whether religion does or should have a public role. The authors acknowledge the centuries-long opposition between Christian and secular humanist traditions. In their conversations, they seek to expose the assumptions each group makes about the other, with "intellectual rigor and compassion." While they don't claim that dialogue or mutual understanding is a panacea for the discord between the two groups, they do believe that the embrace of difference—not the elimination of difference—is an effective classroom for learning to be better humans. Their nuanced discussion lays the groundwork for constructive dialogue between all who wish to move from tolerance of differing opinions to celebration. In business and in life, Tracie Jae is The Quiet Rebel. Her work in the world is creating incremental and organic shifts to the status quo. In her work, she centers on humans, celebrates differences and honors lived experiences. The expertise of her proprietary approach is based on evidence-based practices in clinical and cognitive psychology, and communications research, and focuses on what makes us fully human, at both our best and worst. Tracie holds a BA in Business Management and MA in Strategic Communication and Leadership.

Applying Jesus to New Vision - Interview with Tracie Jae - The Quiet Rebel Today Amy talks with her new favorite friend - Tracie Jae - for the first episode of Season 2. Season 2 is intentionally different than Season 1. In this season, we are talking with folks hard at work re-imagining what it means to respond and reform the issues within our society. These conversations are going to help us, in the Church, re-imagine what it means to be a part of the solution - the Kin-Dom Come. Big Takeaways: Get some bubbles & practice the meditation, follow Spirit and this is a process of becoming aware of others to have transformative conversations. We talk about A LOT in order to give you a lot to think about, in a non-linear way, what it might look like for those of us in the Church to approach the transformative discussions we need to have to begin and continue in the work of changing the world to bring about God's vision. About Tracie Tracie's work in the world is creating incremental and organic shifts to the status quo using conversations as instruments of change. Whether working with individuals, communities or organizations, she creates space to ensure that voices are heard and thoughts are respected. Her proprietary frameworks include 100 Voices Guided Conversations and HUMAN Centered Equity (TM). As often as possible, she incorporates silence in her work to offer participants opportunities to seek their own truths. Tracie holds a BA in Business Management and MA in Strategic Communication and Leadership. What I appreciate is her commitment to service that spans over two decades of volunteerism and vocation in Houston's non-profit sector; including 5 years in education. She currently serves as Regional Representative for The Labyrinth Society and is active on the League of Women Voters Marketing Committee. With all of that, she has successfully launched three daughters into adulthood. She loves hot coffee, recharging so she can slay new dragons and bubble meditation. Neuro*Queering: Beyond the intersection of Neurodiversity and Queerness

Tracie Jae is the Quiet Rebel. She believes the world can be a better place if we focus on human to human interaction. As the Lead Rebel for the Quiet Rebel, she curates authentic, grace-filled conversations centered on difficult subjects. Her current offering is a national, growing and ongoing conversation on race and culture known as the 100 Voices Project. In this powerful episode, we talked about a WIDE variety of topics from systemic racism and equity  o marriage and divorce to bubbles and pie. Despite all the hard advocacy work we need to be doing, Tracie also reminds us to "feed the happy". I love that Tracie can talk gracefully about bubble meditations and, in the same conversation, bravely ask questions like "would I marry me?", "what is my relationship with time and money?" and (to corporations) "why are you claiming to represent diversity and equity when you still see your neighbors as 'other'?"And then deep conversation began and I WAS CHANGED IN REAL TIME. Tracie said "I take issue with the word belonging. Being a black woman, I don't want to belong to anyone or anything! I would rather belong WITH." Let that sink in and let that change you, friends. Of course!  We want to belong WITH, not TO other humans, belong WITH, not TO corporations, and belong WITH, not TO any system. Sometimes change is about shifting one word. Incremental and organic shifts matter. One word can shift how you see an entire system. For me, today, it was WITH. Know better, do better. To continue powerful and graceful conversations with Tracie Jae: FB and IG @traciejaequietrebellife.comTo reach Pasha and sign up for a free coaching call: FB and IG @pashamarlowepashamarlowe.comhttps://calendly.com/pashamarlowe/30minSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/pashamarlowe)

Meet Tracie Jae, founder of The Quiet Rebel and 100 Voices- A Dialog on Race and Culture. Tracie is all about creating opportunities for conversations that shake things up, in the best way possible. 100 voices is about creating a space for authentic and grace filled conversations that makes space for the awkward and the messy, but also follow a format that uses the power of questions to invite people to listen to each other. Her goal is to facilitate conversations that help others access personal transformation as it relates to dismantling racism. Using conversation as an instrument of change, especially now that the world has “cracked open”. Join us as we explore Tracie's vision for what's possible when we dare to create brave spaces for necessary conversations that might be messy and hurtful, but also revealing and healing! Listen in as she shares about her calling to dive more deeply into curiosity and asking questions as instruments of change and how asking questions and listening have become the pillars to her life's work. Learn why we must create brave space vs. safe space for women and men to have conversations about race and privilege and why she blows bubbles as a self-management tool when she is having difficult conversions, and what they remind her to do. Laugh along with us as we talk about relationships, marriage, small talk and the situations in life that force us to self- examine. We can do things differently, and shake things up if we dare to have conversations that are difficult, awkward and messy. Disrupting the status quo does not have to be loud or destructive in the negative sense, sometimes it's the quiet that makes all the difference-the listening. Talking about race might be triggering, but it does not have to be mean. We can be vulnerable and brave and come out on the other side but we have to be willing and we have to want to do that When we believe in our minds that we are entering a safe space, we believe that we can't get hurt. However if we go into a brave space we realize we can get hurt and recover Beliefs about race both conscious and unconscious are formed within our families of origin, and so this is where the work begins. Many women who have attended the 100 Voices event have started to show up differently and have become activated positively by seeing their own privilege and how it has impacted their lives and how it's different for others who have not had the same advantages. There are important questions at the heart of understanding ourselves, and most of us have failed to ask them.” - Tracie Jae More about Tracie: Tracie Jae believes the world can be a better place if we focus on human to human interactions. As the Lead Rebel of the Quiet Rebel brand, she creates space for authentic, grace-filled conversations about the things that matter most. Her signature event, 100 Voices, invites participants into dialogue about race and culture. 100 Voices and events based on its framework, offer a guided conversation that welcomes self- examination and a window into our humanity through other's lived experience. Tracie is mom to 3 adult daughters and counts them as her greatest joys.

The audience will gain tools to assist in disentangling themselves from a lifetime of oppressive conditioning at the hands of white supremacy and patriarchy. We are witnessing systems—white supremacy and patriarchy—breaking down all around us. Unfortunately, when systems of oppression are challenged, they rear up and create chaos. Like a living thing, they begin fighting for survival, and it may seem we are going backwards, not forwards. So what do we do in the face of this chaos? ⁣Join Rev. Dr. TLC and her guests, Tracie Jae and Monette Chilson, as they discuss how we can break down the ways in which we are enmeshed in the systems of white supremacy and patriarchy, and how we can adjust accordingly. Tracie Jae and Monette Chilson will share how their class assists in disentangling ourselves from a lifetime of conditioning and oppressive messaging.⁣@monettechilson on Instagram, Twitter & FB@quietrebel.life on Instagram. @alwaystraciejae on FB⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Tune in for this important conversation at TalkRadio.nyc or watch the Facebook Livestream by Clicking Here. Segment 1Rev. Dr. TLC introduces her guests back to the show, Monette Chilson and Tracie Jae. Monette and Tracie completed a course, Liberation, that took a look at patriarchy and white supremacy. Tracie explains how they are one system, and that because we've been fighting against them separately it ultimately gives them more power. She says we can make a bigger impact by solving the problem together. Rev. Dr. TLC makes a point about having open communication and being able to hear one another. She talks about the relationship between Monette and Tracie; how they must have had some kind of openness and willingness to listen to one another. Segment 2 Coming back from the break Rev. Dr. TLC clarifies her meaning of equity and how it's meant to make sure a group has their fair share. She mentions how it's not a particular attack on one group but we must acknowledge that the system is a white male system that doesn't work for all. Tracie adds that the white men that are in her friend group are there because they understand the system that they've supported has kept black women oppressed. Tracie and Monette discuss their course, Liberation: Freeing Ourselves From Racism and Patriarchy. Tracie explains the steps of the course and how participants were able to examine themselves and what ways we take in the system. Monette talks about a survey created by Tracie that helped understand how ready participants were for the course and their ideas around problematic systems. Before the break, Rev. Dr. TLC and her guest spoke about the demographics and if it affected the course in any way.
