Listen To Episode 285 As Luke Storey Uncovers: His inner child and how he's able to connect with it so that it's present in every single thing that he does. How he's become a voice on not only sobriety but on how to live your life on your own terms. Growing up in northern California during the 1970s and 80s and how that impacted his environment. Negative emotions he felt as a young adolescent and how life experiences, plant medicine such as marijuana, and focusing on what he liked about himself helped him through those moments. Life at Rocky Mountain Academy, a CEDU emotional growth boarding school, the experimental therapy practices they were known for, and the how it somewhat helped him have a set of moral codes, build his character, open up about traumatic experiences, and begin to learn about spirituality. How to know it's time to move on from an obsession when the consequences outweigh any benefits that were ever present. His methods of shortening the cycles of re-commitment so that people eventually just become committed to not giving into their addiction. Both his and Byron Katie's cockroach moments that woke them up to new beginnings and life changes. Why trauma and pain are only subjected to our unique experiences and will differ for everyone else. How grace saved him and gave him the spark to start a new path of living life well. This seed of hope he now holds onto and why he believes it was planted for him. Overcoming Addiction Through Spirituality His disconnection from God and how he was brought back to that spiritual relationship during his journey of healing and new beginnings. Why many people who are alcoholics actually have a thirst for spirituality and a God of their own understanding yet they don't even know it yet. The human will to overcome adversity with grace backing them that we have witnessed in historical figures such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela. Connecting with yourself to create a positive life and environment for you to thrive in. Concept of the spiritual malady and being disconnected from yourself, others, and a higher power. The antidote to loneliness is being comfortable with yourself and bringing that into your relationships. Safely exploring yourself and this world through psychedelics and plant medicine. Seeking your higher self and curing your addictions through plant medicine ceremonies. Sobriety defined if you attend a plant medicine ceremony vs. take synthetic drugs. Why he chose to have his plant medicine experience at Rythmia to ensure he had the experience he wanted. Steps you can take to help a loved one who is facing addiction in their life. Bulletproof Recovery "After observing paths of addiction including my own, the only way out is a spiritual way. Self-help doesn't really do it, you need God help; whatever that looks like for you. You can call it however you want and receive it from any system. If I had a friend that came to me for help, I would honestly send them to the appropriate 12-Step meeting down the street because it's a program that's built not to fail." - Luke Storey Higher Consciousness Through Plant Medicine "Our capacity for joy, ecstasy, a connection to God, and consciousness is already high but being in a human body with a personality, an ego, inner beliefs, and instincts keeps us from permanently accessing that. However, if you're truly in that higher consciousness state all of the time, it would be difficult to function back in your meat suit. That's where the plant medicines and peak experiences come in to help us get a glimpse of what's on the other side." - Luke Storey [ Removing The Lower States Of Consciousness Filter "With the background that I have, plant medicine and psychedelics were never my plan but I was curious to further experience consciousness in a different way and to have the filter that keeps us in the 3rd dimension be removed. At the end of the day, being high is just a removal of the lower states of consciousness. When you get high, you're not actually going higher, it's just that the lower has been removed and you're where you are." - Luke Storey Recover Faster: FITAID RX ZERO (Sugar Free + CREATINE) Recovery Blend is Keto-friendly, with the same clean ingredients and essential nutrients you love in FITAID ZERO. Luke Storey is a former celebrity fashion stylist and entrepreneur, public speaker, podcaster, and lifestyle design coach who has spent the past 21 years relentlessly searching the world over to design the ultimate lifestyle through his extensive, personal research and development. Using The Life Stylist Podcast as his delivery platform, Luke continues to share his strategies for healing, happiness, and high-performance living each week so that listeners can use this knowledge to design their ultimate lifestyle. Luke's passion for sharing strategies for healing and happiness derives from learning to transmute his own suffering, which at one point consumed his life. In part one of our interview, Luke opens up about what he calls his "blackground," his drug addictions and the role that spirituality and surrender played in his journey to recovery. Bryanna also speaks a little bit about her experience growing up with addiction, and the two speak about how addiction is a communal disease. This episode dives right into the "shadows" and really pulls out the weeds of the experience of addiction from two totally different perspectives, which will lead up to next week's episode about pulling the black into the light. IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: Who Luke is, what he does and how he got into it. What is Luke’s ‘blackground,’ his shadow? Luke’s battle with drug addiction, particularly his struggle with heroin. The role Luke’s own involvement in his recovery played in helping him get sober. Spirituality, surrender, and the experience of grace from the unseen hand. Bryanna's experience growing up with her mother's addictions, and how addictions impact not just the addict, but everyone around them. Society’s shift toward more authenticity, realness, truth, and vulnerability. Plus much more… RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Mentioned: School of Style Connect with Luke Storey: Website: LukeStorey.com Instagram: @lukestorey Facebook: Luke Storey Twitter: @MrLukeStorey Podcast: The Life Stylist Podcast with Luke Storey QUOTES "The early part of my life was spent mostly taking energy. I was very much in survival mode and really self-centered and that has a limited capacity for fulfillment. At a certain point, you can go after all of the stuff you want on a physical plane, pleasure-seeking and seeking to numb the pain of existence at that level, but for every one of us that eventually runs out." "No one gets into drugs because it sucks. You get into drugs because you get released and set free in one sense, but then there is that line you cross where you become imprisoned by the thing that once set you free." “Everything you do from the time you wake up to the time you go back to bed, that’s your lifestyle, whatever that looks like.” “My drug of choice was a drug of no-choice.” “I prayed, 'I just want to live.' It was a really simple, yet seemingly unattainable goal at that time.” “There is a massive unification of human beings on the planet at this moment. A massive spiritual awakening that transcends all genders, all races, all religions, and it is bigger and more powerful than ever.” “If you haven’t suffered, then you don’t really have a reason to be empathetic toward those that are still suffering.” LET’S CONNECT Website: Bryannadee.com Instagram: @bryanna_dee Facebook: Facebook.com/bryannadee Pinterest: Pinterest.com/bryannadee/
I am utterly fascinated at the diverse background of today’s guest and fellow podcaster, Luke Storey. With a journey that began as a high school dropout, Luke has hit career stops along the way as a musician, fashion stylist and now health and wellness podcaster.
