Ruth: Faithful Servant of God - Ken WetmoreRuth concludes with a complete reversal from where it began. Instead of death, we have life. Instead of no future, we find the ancestors of royalty. The story not very subtly points out that being a faithful servant of God pays dividends in the long run.Reach out to us with your questions and comments:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607 Email: podcast@wholelife.church#SpeakingOfGraceGet Connected with WholeLife! Unreasonable Church: Enthusiastic InspirationYou're either growing or you are dying. Members of an unreasonable church expect to be challenged and to grow. They enthusiastically enter prayer, Bible study, and quiet time with God, knowing it is where God's inspiration is found. Unreasonable Church: Cheerful GenerosityIn business, the saying goes that you have to spend money to make money. Paul worded it a little differently but had the same idea when he said that if a farmer only plants a few seeds, they'll only get a small crop. God's church is called to cheerfully and generously give their time, talent, and treasure. The reward is beyond what you can imagine.Reach out to us with your questions and comments:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607 Email: podcast@wholelife.church#SpeakingOfGraceGet Connected with WholeLife! Unreasonable Church: Irrefutable BelongingSometimes, the church can feel like a place where only “good” people belong. That's not at all the way God wants people to see His church. You have irrefutable belonging in God's family. Unreasonable Church: Unreasonable HospitalityIf God showed up at church in physical form, what kind of hospitality would be shown? What if you knew you were in the presence of an angel? What kind of hospitality would you show? It would be unreasonable. We would go above and beyond reasonable expectations. The truth is, every day, we have the opportunity to practice unreasonable hospitality to God, so let's talk about how to do it.Reach out to us with your questions and comments:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607 Email: podcast@wholelife.church#SpeakingOfGraceGet Connected with WholeLife! In this episode of the "Get Hired" podcast, host Nicky Bulmer and co-host Michelle Frechette interview Tatiane, an experienced WordPress developer. Tatiane shares her journey in WordPress development, emphasizing her skills in creating and customizing themes and plugins. The discussion covers Tatiane's approach to handling feedback, collaborating with teams, and optimizing WordPress sites. Nicky and Michelle provide Tatiane with resume and interview tips, highlighting the importance of clear communication and showcasing both technical and soft skills. The episode concludes with practical advice for job seekers, reinforcing the podcast's mission to enhance job application materials and interview skills.Top Takeaways:Cover Letters Should Be Concise & Tailored – A strong cover letter shouldn't just repeat the resume. Instead, it should highlight why your skills and experience are a great fit for the specific role and company. Less is often more—focusing on one key project or skill that directly relates to the job can make a stronger impact than listing everything.Confidence & Clarity Matter in Interviews – Candidates should confidently communicate their skills, especially when discussing technical expertise. Using specific language, such as naming programming languages or frameworks, helps interviewers understand the depth of knowledge. Additionally, if an interviewer has an accent or uses unfamiliar words, repeating for clarification or asking them to rephrase is a good strategy.Continuous Improvement & Adaptability Lead to Success – Surrounding yourself with the language, culture, and best practices of your industry (as Tatiane did with English) makes growth easier. Being open to feedback, refining application materials, and improving communication skills over time can significantly increase job prospects.Mentioned In The Show:The Events Calendar Liquid WebDungeons and DragonsGitHub WPIncludes.me

Origins: Bad Apples on the Family TreeOur origin stories don't really start with us. They begin with the people who came before us. In some cases, they gave us their DNA. In other cases, they provided the nurture that would influence us eventually. Jesus' genealogy in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 is often brushed over quickly or completely ignored, but it is an important part of the origin story.Let us know your thoughts by reaching out and joining the conversation with your questions and comments using the information below:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607Email: podcast@wholelife.church#ThisIsWholeLifeGet Connected with WholeLife! Dominion: The HandIn Daniel 5, we are introduced to a new ruler of Babylon who literally sees the writing on the wall. Just because he sees the writing on the wall doesn't mean he understands it. As we dig into this chapter of Daniel, we'll consider what a party in 539 BC can teach us about following and trusting God in the 21st century.Let us know your thoughts by reaching out and joining the conversation with your questions and comments using the information below:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607Email: podcast@wholelife.church#ThisIsWholeLifeGet Connected with WholeLife! Dominion: The FireThe Book of Daniel is about dominion and chapter 3 is about what dominion you worship. Nebuchadnezzar rejects Daniel's interpretation of his dream in the 2nd chapter of Daniel. Instead of a statue made of many metals, he creates a vision of his own and compels others to worship it. Today, we may not be asked to physically bow to 90-foot golden images, but we are constantly being invited to worship things that pull us away from God's dominion in our lives.Let us know your thoughts by reaching out and joining the conversation with your questions and comments using the information below:Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607Email: podcast@wholelife.church#ThisIsWholeLifeGet Connected with WholeLife! Different human beings have different ways of receiving and processing information. Charlottesville Community Engagement is able to provide narratives of civic happenings using text as well as audio. This particular edition for October 23, 2024 is a podcast version with several recent stories. Why do two versions? In the words Bill Siemering wrote to breathe life into National Public Radio, my aim every single day is to “encourage a sense of active constructive participation, rather than apathetic helplessness.” In this audio edition:* Charlottesville City Manager Sam Sanders announces several upcoming “community interventions” (learn more)* Charlottesville now pays the private Charlottesville Parking Center $1.8 million a year to rent the Water Street Parking Garage (learn more)* Albemarle Supervisors discuss growth management policy at AC44 work session (learn more)* Albemarle Supervisors also lay out their legislative priorities for 2025 General Assembly (learn more)* Beloved UVA men's basketball Coach Tony Bennett explains his sudden retirement (learn more)This is an audio version but the next one will be a text version. There are no video versions planned as the camera keeps breaking.First-shout: WTJU's Offbeat Roadhouse features Jeff Massanari Trio this week Every Friday night at 8 p.m, Offbeat Roadhouse on WTJU invites a different musical group into your home for an hour long concert live from WTJU's performance space. Each week there will be Blues, Folk, Jazz, and Roots acts from around the globe. This Friday, the Jeff Massanari Trio will pull into the Offbeat Roadhouse for a concert which will also be broadcast on WTJU. The Jazz guitar master will be joined by Tom Harbeck on bass, and drummer David Drubin. This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen to Offbeat Roadhouse on the radio (91.1 FM) or on-line, and even video stream it at WTJU's Facebook page or YouTube channel. But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience. WTJU is located at 2244 Ivy Rd in Charlottesville, right next door to Vivace. Want to see the live event and plan to see more? Check out more on WTJU's Events Calendar!Second shout-out: Celebrating the community's other information organizations! In today's second shout-out in the form of a house ad, I want to make sure everyone knows that every edition of the regular newsletter (not the podcast ones) ends with a section called Reading Material. Charlottesville Community Engagement is just one offering in a landscape that includes the Charlottesville Daily Progress, C-Ville Weekly, Charlottesville Tomorrow, and Cville Right Now, I curate links from these sources because I believe a truly informed community needs multiple perspectives. There's also the Cavalier Daily, Vinegar Hill Magazine, the Fluvanna Review, the Crozet Gazette, NBC29, CBS19, and other sources. But if you look every day, you'll find links to articles in national publications, all linked to give you more perspectives on some of the issues of our times. You are listening to Charlottesville Community Engagement for October 23, 2024, a super-sized edition. That's one story from Albemarle. Let's hear another, take a break, and then hear a final story from the athletic world. Third shout-out: Podcasts are cool Perhaps the podcast versions are a bit of an indulgence, but there are at least 200 people who listen each time. Maybe that number is small, and maybe it is not commercially defensible. Yet, audio production is intricately woven into how I do my research. My first ever professional work was an internship at WVTF Public Radio nearly 30 years ago, and this is an extension of that work. But this podcast is not the only way to hear the stories! There's also a Soundcloud page and each of those is appended to the bottom of stories on Information Charlottesville. As long as I keep publishing Charlottesville Community Engagement, there will be an audio component. Any ideas? Want to get involved? Drop me a line! This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit communityengagement.substack.com/subscribe

Have you ever had an ice-cold Athletic brew at the finish line of a race, trade show, or music festival? Maybe it was the eye-catching tent, bold branding, or friendly face behind the table that initially got your attention. You'd probably want to thank Michelle for helping to make that happen. She's in charge of getting our award-winning non-alcoholic brews all over the country and coordinating the logistics of introducing Athletic brews to millions of people through event sampling each year. As we gear up for event season, we wanted to give you a peek behind the scenes of some of the folks here at Athletic Brewing. We'll hear about how Michelle grew up playing soccer, worked on a dude ranch in Colorado, and fell in love with running, making it a large part of her career before Athletic Brewing. Next time you grab an Athletic brew at the finish line, give a cheers to the folks like Michelle who helped get it there!Find out where Athletic Brewing will be this summer by checking out our Events Calendar.
