Today, I'm going to tell you about 7 foods to avoid, along with some healthy alternatives. 1. Liquid sugar Soda, juice, and high-sugar beverages deplete your body's vitamin and mineral reserves and contribute to insulin resistance. If you like soda, try Zevia zero-sugar soda instead! 2. Processed cheese Pasteurized cheese products can't be called cheese if they contain less than 51% cheese. Processed cheeses typically contain skim milk, canola oil, milk protein concentrate, modified food starch, whey protein, maltodextrin, preservatives, and salt. Choose real cheese instead! 3. Protein bars Many protein bars are worse than candy bars! They're often made with soy protein isolates and casein, and can contain 30 to 47 grams of sugar per bar! This number doesn't include the starches, which are also sugar. Protein bars are usually sweetened with highly processed sweeteners such as rice syrup, corn syrup, and tapioca syrup. Some are sweetened with sucralose, an artificial sweetener made from a chlorine compound. Try boiled eggs, cheese, and meat jerky for quick protein. 4. Seed oil mayonnaise Almost every mayo available lists soy oil as its first ingredient. Soy oil is a seed oil that's highly processed using solvents like hexane. It's high in omega-6s, which can be highly inflammatory. Look for mayo that is made with avocado oil and zero seed oils. Chosen Foods mayo and Primal Kitchen mayo are much better options. 5. Sweetened, flavored yogurt Seventy percent of the yogurt people buy is sweetened, flavored yogurt. This yogurt contains more sugar per ounce than ice cream! It also contains artificial colorings and flavorings. Opt for plain whole-fat grass-fed yogurt from A2 protein cows. For an even better option, try whole-fat kefir from grass-fed cows, sheep, or goats. 6. Soy protein Soy protein is a cheap, heavily processed protein found in many foods. It negatively affects your gut and liver. Opt for whole protein sources such as meat, eggs, fish, and seafood. 7. Modified starches Starches are chains of sugars, often used as fillers. Starches cause a more significant spike in blood sugar than sugar! Consume natural starch from butternut squash, beets, plantains, and purple potatoes.
Information is working its way down the chain. What I can share is in the episode. This is a yes for me. I hope you can find it in your selves to vote yes as well. Compounded this deal is 9.8% over three years. I am told what was offered and accepted in principal is 3, 3.25, 3.25. Some language changes around seasonal recall but all the other negotiated items were included as well. Looking forward to signing this deal, and thanks to the Union officers who took a good offer, listened to the membership, went back and squeezed out a bit over 0.5% including the other monitary items.
The second edition of this vital series features world-renowned talents such as Benjamin Fröhlich, Venice Arms aka Curses, Massimiliano Pagliara, Zombies in Miami, label founder Jorkes, and many more. Queer Base is a charity in Vienna that offers social and legal counselling to LGBTQI+ refugees who arrive in Austria, including providing help with court cases, finding housing, community events, organising German lessons, HIV/STI testing, and more. Further details can be found at https://queerbase.at/. This tastefully curated selection traverses the electronic spectrum in style. Polygonia opens with supple and trippy minimal on 'Cheeky Seduction' and things build through dubby, stripped-back analogue grooves from HCL, typically bright, jacked-up, and synth-heavy sounds from Massimiliano Pagliara on 'Distant Memory' and retro-future disco-house from Benjamin Fröhlich. CYRK's 'Fade 2 Gay' is a slow-motion and moody dark disco chugger before Gunce Aci picks it up with some skyward arps and slap-funk drums on 'Whatever It Takes.' Elsewhere Zombie Affair, aka Zombies in Miami & Mystery Affair, offer the body-popping electro-disco of 'Girl, You Got Me', Panooc's 'Pellucid' is a throwback and sensual vocal house cut and Lydia Eisenblätter brings all out piano house joy to 'What Is Love' before the closer from Mala Ika is another celebratory cut full of hands in the air synths and joyous drums. This compilation is not only an essential listen but also an essential project that highlights and supports the vital work undertaken by Queer Base. The artwork was created by label creative powerhouse Daniel Rajcsanyi, and the LP was mastered by Blackheadstudios.
Can you influence behavior through taxation? In fact, legislators generally have three goals in mind as they prepare tax laws: raise revenue, create fairness, and ability to influence behavior. Sin taxes, which are used to discourage the purchase and use of products that pose a risk to health, are as old as the original New England colonies. Today, we typically see these sin taxes placed on tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. But the World Health Organization, armed with new data…is calling on the United States to add sugary sweetened beverages to that sinful list. This sugar tax nonsense needs to stop. While the ability to raise revenue and simultaneously achieve some communal goal like improved public health might sound appealing, governments should not seek to discourage any activity, except for those that interfere with the rights of other individuals. In this episode of Causes or Cures I chat with Dr. Scott Kaplan about his research on the effectiveness of putting a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages. Sugar-sweetened beverages are significantly linked to heart disease, obesity and other chronic illnesses, and taxes are one (albeit controversial) approach we can take at the population level. Dr. Kaplan discusses price and purchasing changes afte a sugar-sweetened beverage tax was implemented in five major US cities. He discusses economic outcomes, health outcomes, and addresses criticism of these types of taxes, including that they are too "Big Brotherish" and discriminate against the poor. Dr. Kaplan is an applied microeconomist whose research interests include consumer behavior and food and health poicy. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Combine the bananas, dates, almond butter (or tahini), cinnamon, and vanilla in a high-speed blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy. In a large bowl, combine the oats and walnuts (or sunflower seeds). Pour the banana-date mixture into the bowl (make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender jar) and mix well. Spread the mixture evenly over the prepared baking sheet (clumps are okay and, in my opinion, preferred). Bake for 25 minutes, then remove the baking sheet and mix the granola well, breaking up any very large clumps. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes more, until the granola is dark golden brown. Let cool completely, then mix in raisins (or other dried fruit). Storage: Store at room temperature in a glass food storage container or glass jar with a tight-fitting lid for up to 14 days.
Beracha on sweetened orange peel
Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Gemara establishes that wine which is disqualified for the Nesachim – the libations on the altar – is likewise disqualified for Kiddush on Shabbat, because it is inferior and thus unfit for these sacred purposes. Accordingly, the Rambam (Rav Moshe Maimonides, Spain-Egypt, 1134-1205) ruled that one may not use for Kiddush wine to which honey has been added. The Torah explicitly forbids placing honey on the altar, and so, in the Rambam's view, wine containing honey may not be used for Kiddush. Other Rishonim, however, disagree. In their view, wine to which honey has been added is not inferior, and is disqualified for the Nesachim for some other reason. Therefore, it may be used for Kiddush. This debate would apply also to the sweetened wine that is commonly sold today, which contains sugar. The Rambam would disqualify this wine for Kiddush, whereas other Rishonim would maintain that it is acceptable. The Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 272:8-9) cites both views, but sides with the majority opinion. Therefore, one may use sweetened wine for Kiddush. It should be noted that we do not apply here the rule of "Safek Berachot Le'hakel" – that a Beracha should not be recited when it is subject to Halachic uncertainty. The uncertainty in this case relates to the suitability of sweetened wine for Kiddush, and only indirectly relates to the issue of the recitation of a Beracha. Once the Shulhan Aruch accepts the majority view of the Rishonim allowing the use of sweetened wine, then the Beracha of Kiddush may be recited over this wine. This disagreement also affects the status of Yayin Mebushal – wine which had been boiled – with respect to Kiddush. The Gemara notes that the Torah draws a comparison between animal sacrifices and the wine libations ("Zebah U'nesachim"), indicating that just as the animal sacrifices are placed on the altar in their raw, original condition, the wine poured for the libations must also not have undergone any change. Accordingly, the Rambam maintains that wine which has been boiled, and thus transformed, may not be used for Kiddush. Other Rishonim, however, disagree, noting the Mishna in Terumot which states that boiling has the effect of enhancing a wine's quality. Therefore, even though the Torah disqualifies such wine for the altar, it may be used for Kiddush. Once again, the Shulhan Aruch follows the majority opinion in this regard. Therefore, according to the accepted Halacha, wine which has undergone pasteurization may be used for Kiddush. One who wishes to be stringent and satisfy all opinions should use wine which has no sugar added and which has not been pasteurized, and should also use red wine, in light of the Ramban's ruling that red wine is preferable to white wine. According to the strict Halacha, however, sweetened and pasteurized wine – which is what is commonly sold in stores today – is perfectly acceptable for Kiddush.Summary: Most Kiddush wine that is sold told today has sugar added and has undergone pasteurization. Such wine is perfectly acceptable for Kiddush, though one who wishes to be stringent and satisfy all opinions should use wine which does not contain sugar and which has not undergone pasteurization.

California has spent millions of dollars to house and rehab former prisoners, but can't say if it helped - what gives? After news broke that artificial sweeteners can be cancer-causing, will we soon see artificially-sweetened products be pulled from store shelves? In Hollywood, strikes are only part of the problem; The box office and television channels are badly broken, too. And speaking of Hollywood, residuals are a key issue for the Hollywood strikers, but how they work is an intricate process.

It feels like we're constantly being bombarded by guidelines to “eat less sugar”...but in fact, the best advice for now might be to drink less sugar - at least when it comes to replacing sugar-sweetened beverages like soda. Low- and no-calorie sweeteners have gotten a bad rap for a long time, but experts will be the first to tell you that a lot of the media-reported negative results are based on skewed study findings and clickbait headlines. Joining me in this episode is Dr. John Sievenpiper. Dr. Sievenpiper is a Medical Doctor and Associate Professor at the Department of Nutritional Science in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. Together we dispel some popular myths surrounding low- and no-calorie sweeteners and get to the real science about low- and no-calorie sweeteners! Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian has invented a time machine and tells all about how it works in an exciting twist of fate and it doesn't get any cleverer as it progresses to Brian practicing his rolling Rs. Meanwhile in England, Richard has received a special package and gives us a live review before telling us a Twitter fuelled anecdote. Blake has been talking to Robert Keeley and he and Brian discuss the podcast they made together. He has also been thinking about guitars with extra strings like the giant spider brained genius he is and tells us of his new GAS situation. Meanwhile, Brian is dreaming of Baritone telecasters, and Richard asks dumb questions (again) before broaching the delicate subject of strap locks with Brian. What's the most you would pay for a Boss DS-1? Kurt Cobain's DS-1 sold for a shockingly high amount of money and the guys ponder about this very question while Richard hatches a cunning plan to taunt Brian with natural pests. Then we turn to the greatest flatulence based pedal that Brian never released and the guys come up with a few improvements. Veggies & Virtue: Easy Meal Ideas for Families, Healthy Snacks for Kids, Picky Eating Help
In today's episode, I cover a mom's question that came in here talking about how we set up a firm foundation for handling things like popsicles, ice cream, and all those really fun sweets and treats that come with summer (as well as throughout the year). Sharing that her daughter is, "still a bit young," she asked how I recommend handling this AND how I handle this personally within my own family? Without creating a dynamic where our children grow up to be hyper-focused about sweets, I share what I would focus on at each of the first three ages and stages of development to help your family build a healthy foundation to including all foods - including sweets and treats.
Ash is joined by the Hip Hop Homegirl, music and entertainment journalist Tatyana Jenene! The two talk about Roe v. Veggies & Virtue: Easy Meal Ideas for Families, Healthy Snacks for Kids, Picky Eating Help
In today's episode, we are featuring a message from a sweet mom, Sarah, who chimed in to ask a question about how to handle soda with her kids. Ashley loves getting listener-submitted questions, like this, so thank you Sarah for submitting this message. You can send Ashley a voice memo here. In this episode, Ashley walks families through how to make decisions around what your family's approach is to things like soft drinks and other sugar-sweetened beverages. Ashley challenges you as the parent and nutritional gatekeeper to identify what your family may be doing or need to begin doing with their beverage choices from the perspective of building healthy habits. Lastly, Ashley shares sample dialogue on how you might want to approach talking about things like soft drinks and other sugar-sweetened beverages with you kids. This gets to the bottom of Sarah's question: How do we talk about these with our kids in a way that doesn't give them emotional value or label them good, bad, unhealthy, healthy, but instead equips our kids to handle sugar-sweetened beverages.
