Summary It's important to have faith and adopt a mindset of knowing that things will work out when it comes to having confidence in affording children. It's also important to be satisfied with what you have and appreciating the present moment, rather than focusing on what you don't have. That foundation keeps us from going outside ourselves to seek what we desire which leads to overspending and all kinds of other stress. Things change over time, and you'll be able to provide more and more for your children as your resources expand. Breaking a generational curse is not about giving children material things, but rather passing along emotional intelligence. “One year from the day I started, I had a piece at the Louvre as a modern art master,” shares Beth Bowen, international abstract artist. Beth was living a comfortable life until everything changed when her mother passed away in 2013. She realized that life was too short to continue letting fear hold her back from living and ended up filing for divorce. She didn't have a career and was struggling financially, so therapy became too expensive. Not one to give up, Beth decided to use art as therapy instead and began teaching herself to paint from Youtube tutorials. In today's episode, Beth joins hosts Amy and Denyse to discuss her journey from Youtube artist to international artist and the value of facing your fears. Beth explains that life is like a canvas, and we can recreate it and start fresh at any time. Once she realized her life was not serving her, it was time to start over with a blank canvas. Even though Beth was uncertain of where the future would lead, she took the leap anyway and doors began to open all around her. When she first started, she did not know anything about the professional art world. But there were many people who stepped up to help along the way. Beth went from living off food stamps in her friend's guest house to having her art on display in galleries worldwide after just one year. She attributes painting with helping her learn to face her fears, increase her self-confidence, and instill better time management skills. It can be really intimidating to make a big life change, especially in midlife. Beth was 38 years old when she found herself divorced without a career and no ideas on how she was going to become financially stable. Instead of giving up, she chose to face her fears and the universe rewarded her. When we are willing to make a leap of faith and not let fear hold us back from our dreams, we can achieve anything. Quotes “Once you take a jump, a leap of faith, it's like the universe rewards you.” (4:46-4:52 | Beth) “One year from the day I started, I had a piece at the Louvre as a modern art master.” (12:23-12:28 | Beth) “I didn't live my life for me. I lived my life for what I thought people expected from me or how it should be. And then it's like when you go through divorce, you go through death. You just don't care about the bullsh*t anymore.” (13:39-13:51 | Beth) “Changing the mental dialogue was huge to my success.” (18:50-18:55 | Beth) “Your life is your canvas. That's it. We can recreate, we can paint over, and start fresh.” (23:05-23:11 | Beth) Links: Connect with Beth Bowen: Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iambethbowen/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bethbowenart/ Recent Work To be Displayed in NYC: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jnOgvo4cuI7-x103aX2W0VX9MoDZvLHy6cHTMUP41i0/mobilebasic?fbclid=IwAR3SYdexu93DjPqef82BFnPqU1RokOtfH4n13X1bRw1UZhrPy5aopGNzPm4 Amy & Denyse LOVE to network. Creativity and inspiration cannot be bought, but they can be learned. Susie deVille is in the business of teaching entrepreneurs how to be more creative, innovative and inspired! Her methods have freed hundreds of business owners from perfectionism and turned them into unique, inventive leaders. Susie is the founder and CEO of the Innovation & Creativity Institute. An author, coach, and business owner who built and sold a highly profitable real estate firm, she has been researching innovation and creativity since 2005. Her first book, Buoyant: The Entrepreneurs Guide to Becoming Wildly Successful, Creative, and Free, has been called The Artist's Way for entrepreneurs. Why is creativity important for business? Susie's clients want to have better ideas, solve problems with ease and become exceptional leaders. All the skills that make up a great leader-The ability to think quickly when challenges arise, inventing new products and services, and ultimately serving clients more effectively-begin with our ability to be creative! By uncovering our own profound sense of inspiration and intuition, we become magnetic: People want to hire, invest in or work for us. Creativity is a skill that anyone can develop! If inspiration doesn't strike, how do you find it? Susie has built her career around teaching solutions. Whether you feel like you're not a creative person or you're just feeling stuck lately, Susie has great advice for you: Stop trying to make “good” things and just focus on the act of making! In this episode, Susie deVille gives quality exercises for how you can become unstuck by embracing the messy, imperfect and exciting parts of the creative process. Quotes “Once we remember who we truly are, we become insanely attractive to the marketplace. People can feel us even before we speak.” “This is a process of the archeology of the self. As we move through life, things accumulate which are not our true selves. They are the expectations of others, cultural messages and things told to us by parents, teachers and family members. Through my work with clients, we reconnect them with their innermost playful, joyful self. We then direct and shape how they build their businesses.” “We have to tap into our inspired creativity. We need to breathe in what fills us. It can be absorbing or creating beautiful art, resting, or spending time in the park. Through these practices, we anchor ourselves in rituals that bring us back to ourselves.” “When we begin focusing on inspiration instead of more productivity, we come home to ourselves. We begin to profoundly trust our own decision-making. It's the direct result of making things.” “Making something is the bridge across the river of self-doubt. It gives a sense of possibility.” “Once we have our sacred inspirational energy back, we have to protect it and continue to fuel it. We set boundaries and become more mindful about scheduling things.” “There is an addiction to the adrenaline of overdoing. We get a charge out of opening our planner and seeing all the stuff. It's a socially-sanctioned way to hide out. Especially if we're carrying some trauma, we load up that schedule.” “My clients are often overachievers who believe that they can achieve their way to a sense of self and intrinsic value. But it's a fool's errand. You cannot give yourself intrinsic value by doing. You have to know that you have ‘value' without achieving anything.” “My clients push back on the joyful, easy path because it sounds frivolous! They think it's for crafty people with time to kill, retired people or children. This is the hardest part of the process - we have to shift and undo this cultural training.” “People believe that what you make has to be quote-on-quote ‘good'. We tend to believe that the product is what has value. But I'm more interested in what's happening inside of my soul.” Links mentioned in this episode: Check out the website for the Innovation and Creativity Institute: https://innovationandcreativityinstitute.com/ Purchase Susie deVille's NEW book and hone your own creativity and inspiration: https://innovationandcreativityinstitute.com/book/ Become a coaching client of Susie deVille or purchase a course on her website: https://innovationandcreativityinstitute.com/work-with-susie/ Follow the Creativity and Innovation Institute on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/innovationandcreativityinstitute Connect with Susie deVille on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/susiedeville/ You can follow Susie on Twitter at @susiedeVille Susie recommends the work of Lynda Barry in uncovering your own creativity. On this episode of the Psychedelic Medicine Podcast, Juliana Milligan joins to discuss her recent article (co-authored with Joshua White of Fireside Project) on warning signs when selecting a psychedelic facilitator. Juliana is an ibogaine specialist who has been working in the ibogaine treatment community for 10 years. Having been formerly opioid-dependent and incarcerated herself, she currently works at the Center for Optimal Living where she runs the psychedelic education and training program. Juliana additionally works with clients doing preparation and integration of Ibogaine treatments through her business Inner Vision Ibogaine. In this conversation, Juliana discusses each of the 10 red flags she identified in her article. First, she discusses potential issues around sexual misconduct on the part of facilitators, emphasizing that this is a topic which always requires careful and explicit discussion well prior to the psychedelic experience. One ought to also do some individual research, as potential allegations against a facilitator are also a red flag to take seriously. Next, Juliana talks about the importance of facilitators doing a thorough medical intake. This involves getting a medical history from a potential client and checking if there are any contraindications for this person to take a psychedelic, such as dangerous interactions with prescription medications. In a similar vein, Juliana also stresses the necessity of facilitators testing the psychedelics their clients will be consuming whether they themselves provided the psychedelics or if the client brought their own substances. Willingness to test the substances in the presence of the client is definitely a good sign and shows that the facilitator values both transparency and safety. In terms of training, Juliana highly recommends ensuring that a facilitator is trauma-informed before committing to a journey under their guidance. Knowing that a guide will be conscientious and empathetic around issues of trauma helps to ensure that the psychedelic experience doesn't itself turn in a traumatic direction. Similarly, Juliana emphasizes that facilitators should be open about the training they've received—even underground facilitators should ideally have mentors and be involved in a community of practitioners that encourages continued training. In closing, Juliana discusses the dangers of having inflated and unrealistic expectations around the healing potential of psychedelics. Facilitators who use hyperbolic language like “ten years of therapy in one night” may actually be setting up clients for more difficult experiences than they otherwise may have had due to these fantastical claims. Juliana emphasizes that psychedelic healing is a cooperative endeavor, and neither the substance nor the facilitator is solely responsible for any healing that results from the experience. Ultimately, it is the person themselves who does this work, so Juliana highly recommends finding a facilitator who acknowledges their role as primarily supportive of this healing journey, rather than someone who presents themselves as a miracle worker responsible for these positive results. In this episode: Why having a trauma-informed facilitator is important, and what this means The dangers of psychedelic narcissism The importance of the harm reduction practice of chemically testing psychedelics Trusting your intuition and building this capacity Having healthy and reasonable expectations around the healing potential of psychedelics Quotes: “Once you are on a psychedelic, you cannot properly consent to touch—it must be established in advance. And if [a facilitator] is saying ‘well no I need freedom in my work, I need to use my intuition' that is a major red flag.” [7:19] “It's really important that the facilitator knows exactly what is contraindicated with the medicine they're administering, and if they're not evaluating for this and if they're not familiar with medical conditions and how they interact with the medicine they're giving then they're not properly trained to be giving this medicine.” [10:14] “The only person that can really heal you is yourself and a facilitator is just there to help empower you and support you in guiding yourself. It's a collaborative relationship.” [13:44] “If a person isn't willing to be receptive to feedback, self-reflective, and take accountability, psychedelics aren't necessarily going to make them do that. And so you give psychedelics to somebody with those kinds of narcissistic traits and it can just make the narcissism worse.” [20:15] Links: Juliana's Article with Fireside Project: Warning Signs When Selecting a Psychedelic Facilitator Inner Vision Ibogaine: Guide to Finding an Ibogaine Clinic The Root Ibogaine Collective The Psychedelic Program at The Center for Optimal Living Juliana on Instagram Previous episode: Navigating Psychedelic Narcissism with Adam Aronovich Previous episode: Harm Reduction Through Testing Your Psychedelics with Mitchell Gomez Previous episode: When *Not* to Proceed with a Planned Psychedelic Journey with Rick Barnett, PsyD Previous episode: Fireside Project: The World's First Psychedelic Hotline with Joshua White and Hanifa Nayo Washington Previous episode: Insights Gained from the First Year of Fireside Project with Joshua White Psychedelic Medicine Association Porangui

You may not know what your options are or what marketing truly is and end up wasting valuable time and resources. That's why today, Erica and JP are breaking down the different marketing routes an entrepreneur can take. By asking yourself crucial questions, such as “What is the use of my product?” and “Who is my target customer?”, you can solidify your next steps to help your business grow. Although different strategies can prove effective, establishing a marketing plan that works for you is the most important thing. Tune into today's episode of Marketing Myth Buster to determine which marketing approach is best for you and your business. Learn the difference between competitor and budget marketing, where to draw your personal commitment lines, and what the definition of marketing truly is. Quotes • “Once you understand what marketing is, you need to determine what the best marketing is for you. You have two options. One, you can take the competitor route, or two, you can take the budget route.” (01:39-02:00) • “The formula would be so that you don't waste time and that you don't waste money. You determine, what is your product? What is the use of your product? Who can use your product? Who is your customer? And where is your customer? And how do you get to your customer in the most economical way?” (03:04-03:24) • “You have to be aware that you need to draw a line on where your commitment is, like, I'm going to be willing to spend this much, or this is what I think I can do.” (08:12-08:27) • “The best marketing for you is going to be determined by if you want to compare yourself to a competitor, and you want to do better than them, and you're going to try to outsmart them or outspend them. Or you have a budget of X and you're going to go with that.” (09:15-09:35) Links busted@marketingmythbuster.com marketingmythbuster.com webcontentdevelopment.com https://calendly.com/jp-desilva https://www.linkedin.com/in/jp-de-silva/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/erica-d-arcangelo-desilva/ https://www.instagram.com/webcontentdevelopment/ Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Learn how it's possible to have a family, full-time job and dream as long as you take the consistent steps needed to get to where you want to go. What exactly is a CEO schedule? It's a schedule that is going to mash your personal life and also your business life together.” (3:11-3:27) • “Start with your current lifestyle. Start with your current schedule and see what we can tweak. What can we add? What can we take out?” (9:04 - 9:15) • “You don't have to do everything at one time, you just have to do that one thing that is going to drive sales, that is going to drive your brand visibility, that's going to get you out there to talk to people. That one thing that you are most comfortable doing and have the least resistance and it comes easiest for you.” (12:15 - 12:37) • “What are the ‘inspire actions'? That means when you're doing that task, you don't feel that it's a drag, because you're inspired to do what you need to do to get you to where you want to be.” (17:06 - 17:19) Links Connect with me at: may@events4anyone.com Website: events4anyone.com LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/mayyeosilvers Facebook: www.facebook.com/mayyeosilvers IG: www.instagram.com/mayyeosilvers TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mayyeosilvers FB private group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/events4anyone Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

This conversation is long overdue. Where is the support for women's rights when we need it. There are too few people that are willing to make known their opinion in the public forum. Nokwanda Dlamini, helps us dissect why some people are more willing to fight for what they believe than others. She offers practical ways that one can be an activist especially if you are not willing to go out on the streets. We also discuss why it is problematic when the majority are passive onlookers on important issues. Nokwanda Dlamini, a Human Capital Consultant (eSwatini, Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa, 2003 – 2009) is a change maker who enjoys solving problems. She has worked in the Human Capital space for over 5 years and is passionate about de-stigmatising mental health in the workplace. Her experience includes consulting in People and Organisation matters as well as project management. Nokwanda holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and International Studies from Earlham College in the USA, attained through the Shelby Davis Scholarship. Because of her passion for youth development and impact, Nokwanda has been part of the Young African Leadership Initiative and is an African Union Youth Volunteer. Her interests are gender, equity & inclusion and sustainable development. Nokwanda is the current Curator of the Global Shapers Community: Mbabane Hub and firmly believes that we should always speak up about injustice, advocate for social change and find ways to give back. To this end, she is part of the Eswatini COVID-19 National Emergency Response Official Technical Working Group and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Kwakha Indvodza, Eswatini's first male mentoring organisation which specialises in behaviour change interventions with men and boys. What does your decision-making process look like? Do you lean all the way into your intuition, or structure your points with rock-solid data? Turns out, the most successful CEOs find a balance of both—or invest in advisors who make the right call for them. Whether you're still finding your feet in business or already scaling your way to 6 or 7 figures, strategic decision-making is a skill you've simply got to master. The sooner you do it, the easier it will be to steer your team in the right direction—and the quicker you'll get to your next goal. I may be as heart-centered as they come, but there's no denying that things can slip through the cracks fast when you start losing sight of the facts. On the other hand, if you're spending all of your time chasing numbers and comparing your biz to your competition, you could soon find yourself chairing up a business you don't believe in. The sweet spot lies somewhere between thinking, feeling, learning, and executing—and today's guest has a knack for helping top CEOs find it. I'm so thrilled to be joined by business advisor and international speaker Mary Dee in today's episode of the I Heart My Life Show. Mary has been helping CEOs and their executive suites make strategic decisions for over two decades, so if there's anyone in the world who knows how to scale and grow a business from the ground up, it's her! She's a prime example of how tapping into your natural talents can translate to a purpose-filled life. It was such a joy and privilege to be in Mary's energy, and I know you will love listening to the lessons she shares in this episode. We talk about the top mistakes business owners make as they grow (both when they're first starting out AND scaling past 7 figures), the key metrics you should be paying attention to from day one, and the value of mentorship at every single level of business. You'll also find out whether you are a coach or a team player type of CEO, and what that means about the people you should surround yourself with as you scale your business. Note-taking is highly advised! In This Episode: Mary shares how she went from working as a hostess at a California seafood restaurant hostess to giving strategic advice to CEOs Why knowing what you're naturally good at will help you live out your purpose What her serial entrepreneur clients struggle with most as they scale Finding the right balance between data-driven and intuitive thinking The metrics that really speak volumes about a business Top mistakes business owners make as they grow Different types of CEO, and the people they need around them The difference between intuitive and fear-based decisions How Mary uses journaling as a decision-making practice The importance of matching up with a mentor at every level of business What really keeps businesses stuck at the 7 figure level Why a positive attitude to failure will get you far Quotes: “Once you get to seven figures, you're going to need to look a little higher up and say, okay, if my goal is to scale past this number, who else has gone past this number that I know understands how things change, how things scale, how things grow, and what new problems might I end up running up against? We're outgrowing a first set of pants. We have to go get new pants.” - Mary Dee “If there's anything I've learned, it's to keep trying something long enough. You're going to get good at it. And if you don't get good at it, you're going to get good at something.” - Mary Dee “Even if a business finds you, it's important to understand what you are actually building. Are you building a lifestyle business or are you building a business that you're trying to take public and sell? Are you trying to serve a lot of people? Are you trying to serve just one person? There are so many details wrapped up in that.” - Mary Dee “Find the person you resonate with, the person who has what you want. Latch onto that person, because they will really help shortcut some things for you. And you will not have as bumpy of a learning curve that a lot of people do when they don't ask for help. They kind of flounder around in secret, taking courses and trying to do some stuff in the background without ever leaning in. Instead, raise your hand, say I'm vulnerable and I'm coachable and I'm ready to show up. I believe the universe delivers when we do that.” - Mary Dee Links & Resources: Follow the I Heart My Life Show on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-heart-my-life-show/id1569047758 Subscribe to the I Heart My Life Show on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/1Zw6fI37FrfVjZMXlMiZZ6 Connect with Mary: Visit Her Website https://www.marydee.net/ Mary on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/themarydee/?hl=en Connect with Emily: I Heart My Life Website https://www.iheartmylife.com/ I Heart My Life on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/iheartmylife/ I Heart My Life on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/iheartmylifenow I Heart My Life on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/i-heart-my-life/ https://www.iheartmylife.com/join Join the IHML community to receive exclusive announcements and tips. Various forms of fasting have become one of the favored strategies for dieting in recent years. One approach, prolonged fasting, has numerous benefits when it comes to dieting and aging well that differentiates it from other methods. Dr. James Kelley joins me to discuss whether prolonged fasting is right for you. Benefits of prolonged fasting include: Neuroplasticity Lower parasympathetic tone Improved heart rate variability Reduced insulin intolerance Increased cellular health Lower blood pressure About Dr. James Kelley James completed his M.D. at The Ohio State University and was the inaugural Research Fellow at the Ohio Health Research and Innovation Institute. He finished his MBA at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology from the University of Virginia and completed his Neuroscience Master's coursework at Miami University. Prior to joining the L-Nutra team, he was the head of Inventor Services at The Innovation Institute, a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Innovations group focused on developing and commercializing new and innovative healthcare solutions. What Prolonged Fasting is and How it Can Help Prolonged fasting involves going without food for at least a day or two. This leads the body to shift how it processes food and leads to metabolic changes. It usually takes at least a day for the body to reach ketosis, making prolonged fasting an effective way to manage weight. It also supports autophagy, your body's method of cleaning out damaged cells so that healthier ones can be regenerated. There are risks to prolonged fasting, however. Dr. Kelley emphasizes the importance of working with a knowledgeable practitioner to make sure that your body makes the right adjustments without doing harm to important systems and organs. Why Prolonged Fasting Doesn't Need to Be Hard Fasting is not an easy thing to do. Many people don't make it much more than a day. To help people achieve the benefits of a prolonged fast while still allowing them to eat, Dr. Kelley's company has developed ProLon. This five-day plant-based meal program has been scientifically researched and designed to help keep your cells in a state of fasting while providing your body with essential sustenance and nutrition. When the effects of prolonged fasting are achieved, clinical trials have shown numerous specific benefits. Dr. Kelley describes how participants often lose visceral fat, maintain healthy levels of IGF1 which helps with better aging, and achieve an overall better metabolic balance. Have you tried prolonged fasting before? Tell me about it in the comments on the episode page! While it's super important for things like maintaining muscle-mass… there are a lot of benefits to growth; you just have to balance those against the risks and the downsides. Today’s episode may be a quick one but it’s a powerful one packed with great information about how to push yourself beyond your edge, test your limits, and get to the next level in the process. While it’s not something we should be doing everyday, really pushing yourself beyond what you think you can do from time to time can have a profound impact upon your perception of your capabilities and your preparedness for challenging times. It’s something I build into my Mastermind and my own life, and I’m so excited to share with you all here today. I’ll start off by explaining what I mean by practicing ‘the splits’, and then look at how I use this as part of my goal-getting, taking action steps, and the ‘Brain Over Body’ study involving Wim Hoff. We’ll also explore how this exercise changes your perception, the power of ‘big ass challenges’, and how this information is applicable in all aspects of your life. Like I said, this is a quick little episode, but its impact is huge as it deals with a big idea that will challenge you, shake things up, and most importantly, prove to you that if you take control of your thoughts, you can go wherever you like. I also want to remind you of my 9-month Ascend Mastermind that will be starting this month! If you’re a high achieving entrepreneur or high level professional who is ready to uplevel your health and well-being (mental, emotional, physical) while creating and pursuing goals you actually want and also putting the overwhelm of 2020 in the rear view, then this Mastermind is the perfect opportunity for you. You’ll get to strengthen your habits, get clear on what you want and be held accountable by, and find support among like-minded women as you ascend. Sadly, many women of faith struggle with disordered eating. They may be getting their messages about their bodies from the wrong place or are dealing with spiritual battles surrounding those beliefs around food. Today, I talk with someone who will help you get the perspective you may need to start to take action on overcoming these negative beliefs. About Brittany Braswell, RD Brittany is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) who has a passion for helping women of all ages discover their God-given worth and value. She believes that a person’s identity cannot be based on their appearance or abilities, but can only be found in the Lord. Brittany strives to make each of her clients know that their voice is being heard and that it matters. She is passionate about serving her clients and helping them establish a healthy relationship with food and their body in order to improve their quality of life and walk free and fearlessly in their purpose. The Role of Faith in Knowing Your Worth Of course, it is still possible to get results without a faith-based element. However, both Brittany and I have found that bringing faith into the process allows for more drastic and lasting results. This means reinforcing the idea that worth does not come from society. Instead, your worth is something God-given that no person or diet can give or take away. Listening to the Right Voices Brittany helps her clients recognize where the negative voices they hear come from and differentiates them from God’s voice and their own. When self-talk revolves around guilt, condemnation, rushed decisions, and obsessions, you should try to recognize these as voices to reject. Listen for encouragement, reassurance, clarity, and anything to build confidence and a sense of calm. Honing in on these positive internal voices is a crucial step in regaining your control and addressing disordered eating. Does your faith play a role in how you treat your health? It doesn’t have the ability to make a choice. It can’t make a decision. It’s an inanimate object. So eating the food doesn’t make it good or bad and eating the food doesn’t make you good or bad.” [13:34] “Feelings or emotions are indicators, not dictators. In this episode of Back Bedroom to Big Business podcast, Dino and Simon move forward with their series of wildly successful entrepreneur characteristics! The passion is the motivational fuel that enables you to break through the barriers and challenges that will get in the way of your success. This is a building block on the entrepreneurial journey and leads into the second characteristic and the focus of this episode: Embracing the Challenge. Understanding 'Entrepreneur' is more of a personality type than a title: Happy to be pushed forward/experience pressure A problem solver by nature/problem-solving skills Aware there will be challenges and enjoy the grappling match Not waiting or expecting challenges to disappear Understanding challenges and problems occur at every level of the business building process. Embracing this and know that it leads to success. Embracing opposition with enthusiasm Not looking for easy Dino shares with us a powerful story about the success of entrepreneur, Scott Belsky (Adobe). Scott says when we hear stories about entrepreneurs we often hear the beginning (great idea & motivation) and the end (massive success or failure). The 'messy middle' gets left out. What is in the middle is exceptionally important. This middle ground is where the hard decisions are made, money and time is lost, and self-doubt can take up residence. The messy middle is what makes the success at the end worth it and most people never get to see it. Importance of taking a deep dive into expectations: Many people step or run away from corporate business to change their lifestyles or the amount of time they have to spend doing what they want to do. Often these people crave immediate results. Often when an entrepreneur starts out, if we don't get the results we want, like a petulant child, we throw up our hands and say 'What's the point?' This reverts back to the first characteristic of success - passion is the point. The desire to solve the problem is the point or the end goal. We need to get rid ourselves of the goalposts we (and others) set up for us and instead focus on the progress we are making. When you step out on the ledge of entrepreneurship is is extraordinarily important that we keep in mind what you have is valuable. If what you are pursuing has no value for you or anyone else you wouldn’t pursue it. Remembering this and keep it at the forefront of your thoughts helps immensely to meet challenges when they arise with enthusiasm and durable motivation. At the very end of the discussion, Dino and Simon touch briefly on episode four. This episode leads us to the third characteristic of incredibly successful entrepreneurs which is the interesting concept of the differences in searching for an answer and solving a problem. Quotes: “Once you understand challenge is part of the process, then like anything, you adopt another mindset.” “You never reach the top. There is always another side of the mountain to climb” “Not everyone is looking for easy.” “Until you put an actual product in front of an actual customer, you don’t know if they’re going to buy it or not.” “Easy to say ‘What’s the point?’ and throw in the towel, but these people didn’t.” Dino Tartaglia LinkedIn profile: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/dinotartaglia?trk=pub-pbmap Simon Hartley LinkedIn Profile: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/simon-hartley-897a8113?trk=pub-pbmap
Ep 037 | Getting School'd with Tracy Pendergast Tracy Pendergast is a lifestyle blogger and host of The Home School'd podcast and is sharing how she uses creativity as a form of self-care. While being a mom of two kids keeps her busy, Tracy is finding time for home remodels, business launches, building her online community, and the importance of educating yourself. We are discussing all of this and dive into some home remodel stories along with our favorite and least favorite parts of a remodel…hint, the furniture design, and colors are the most fun! It's important to pay attention to what fills your cup! What we're talking about Creativity Building A Brand DIY vs Hiring Creativity As Self-Care Self-care is so important and something we cover quite a bit. Tracy's form of self-care is allowing herself to be creative because it fills her cup and allows her to feel whole. By doing what she loves, it enables her to be a good mom and a good wife, which in turn also makes her feel even more whole. Building Your Community With Your Brand Tracy has had a community of followers since she started her lifestyle blog many years ago, but launching a new podcast has brought the need for growing her audience. Tracy's advice is to engage with your community and involve them instead of worrying about a large number of followers. It's important to be around those that inspire you and energize you and your community is a perfect place to start in finding those people. Remodels, Paint and DIY Projects Tracy and I are both fans of beautiful things and are not strangers to remodels, and we are definitely in agreement that hiring professionals is better than doing the work yourself! With the ease of shopping online and strolling through the warehouse of Ikea for ideas, all you have to do is pick out the designs and colors you love and then let those who do it for a living, make it come to life. Have you found your tribe of inspirational and energized people? LINKS MENTIONED Hey Tracy Tracy's Instagram Tracy's Facebook Home School'd Podcast Jena Kutcher's Courses TIMESTAMPS 2:17 (53 sec TP) – I started Hey Tracy back before I had kids and once I had kids and I had this huge creative block for a couple of years and I could not figure out why I didn't feel like sharing and writing and blogging anymore. It was really weird. And it took me a long time to figure out that it was actually because I stopped investing time in learning how to do things. And it's like once you kind of exhausted your skill set, there's really not much to talk about anymore with people. So I started really taking time to learn how to do things myself and really pour time and effort into educating myself again and I just became really passionate about things, especially around my home. QUOTES Once you've exhausted your skill set, there's not much to talk about. For me, creativity is self-care. It's important to be around people who inspire you and energize you. Transformation happens through consistent action, major perspective shifts, and a willingness to adventure into the unknown. Regardless of how much trauma and betrayal you’ve experienced in your life, if you’re willing to put the work in, you will see results. Our guest, Monica Bennett, shares today how she’s worked through her past to now help women overcome theirs. Monica’s parents were both Holocaust survivors and her childhood was full of fear and uncertainty. She grew up in an unhappy and disappointing environment and later learned that she was generationally passing these traumas onto her daughter. But over the years, she’s learned many coping mechanisms for working through and healing from her trauma. The way we respond to betrayal can actually become a pattern in our lives; it’s something we get used to. Breaking that pattern helps us move forward. Monica finds that writing three pages of her thoughts every morning helps her make sense of her thoughts. She also shares how other aspects of her life impact how she responds to trauma, including the food she eats. Monica explains that one of the hardest parts of healing from trauma, for her, was learning who she was outside of it. When you’ve sat in trauma for years, do you really know who you are? She gives us some examples of how she learned who she is. And while it’s not for everyone, Monica worked with a holistic shaman for a number of years to get to the root cause of her trauma. How have you committed to working through your trauma every day? Let us know what you gained most from Monica’s story in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode How to move forward after betrayal Why betrayal can impact multiple generations How responding to betrayal can become a pattern Why writing out morning pages every day can help you understand your betrayal How your food habits can impact how your body responds to betrayal How you can create your identity outside of trauma What mirror work is and how it can help you move through trauma What role a shaman can play in working through feelings of betrayal Why you need to commit to working through betrayal every day What can help you break through old limiting beliefs Quotes “Once you start looking and becoming aware of your past betrayal, you have understanding. Once you have understanding, then you have clarity. And once you have the clarity, then you can start to move forward.” (3:00) “These words, these neuropathways, are so almost hardwired, that slowly we have to learn to disconnect like a wire to a plug in the wall. We have to learn to disconnect slowly.” (15:00) “Unfortunately, you have to step out into the unknown if you do want to heal. And that’s where the tricky part comes because the unknown can be so uncomfortable, that you’ll come back to the known, even though that is so uncomfortable. But at least it’s familiar.” (18:18) “I realize that not every day is a good day, but I know I have the insight to navigate the days with gratitude.” (25:39) Links The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron Positive Mind LLC Website Monica Bennett on Facebook Call Monica on 516-297-0672 Find the full episode post here: https://pbtinstitute.com/77 Do you have Post Betrayal Syndrome? Lyme disease is both common and debilitating. I’ve seen the way it has affected some of my own patients. It’s a scary diagnosis that doctors are still working to fully understand. However, there is hope. On today’s episode, I talk with one of the doctors, Dr. Darin Ingels, who is working hard to find natural solutions to living with Lyme. Dr. Ingels specializes in treating Lyme disease at his practice in Irvine, CA. A clinical microbiologist and a naturopathic doctor by training, Dr. Ingels’ broad background in infectious diseases have given him the insight needed to tackle Lyme. He certainly knows a lot about it having been infected with Lyme himself. He has since written The Lyme Solution and treated patients from all around the country. Dr. Ingels and I sit down to discuss how Lyme disease can affect your life in many ways. He tells us what the classic and more obscure symptoms are and how to get it properly diagnosed. He also breaks down the typical treatment for this disease and its shortcomings. We’re always learning more about Lyme disease. It’s more prevalent than many think and can be transmitted in many ways. Throughout our conversation, Dr. Ingels clearly and expertly explains just what we should watch out for and what to do to stay safe from Lyme. As a naturopath, Dr. Ingels explains some great steps you can take to regain control of your health after a Lyme infection. Do you or someone you know have Lyme? What are some useful solutions that you or they use to manage this disease? Tell me about it in the comments on the episode page! In this episode: What Lyme disease is and the different ways that people can catch it What to tell your doctor if you suspect you may have Lyme disease What the standard treatment for Lyme is and why it may not be adequate Why you are still at risk for Lyme even if you don’t live in areas where it’s traditionally found Solutions to take when the traditional treatments don’t work How improving your gut health can be a necessary measure to take to overcome the effects of Lyme disease The best diet and lifestyle you can have if you suffer from Lyme Quotes: “Once you get this organism in your body it can really trigger a myriad of symptoms. There’s upward of one hundred different symptoms associated with Lyme. I think one of the biggest problems we see with Lyme is that people often get misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed because their symptoms look like something else.” [4:10] “Those of us who treat a lot of Lyme realize that 21 days is just not adequate for people to treat the infection. It’s usually a minimum of six weeks if not longer. A lot of us really will base it on your symptoms. On this episode of It's Electric! Our supercharged host Afeez Kay welcomes Jonny Cooper of Jonny Hates Marketing onto the show to discuss all things fossil fuels and electric vehicles. Jonny is an EV-angelist, which is someone who pushes and promotes electric cars and clean tech in order to create a healthier, more sustainable world, and has strong opinions about the current state of things in the automotive industry. A little known fact about Jonny: He's also a race car driver! Afeez kicks things off by asking Jonny to describe a bit of his history involving cars and why he has become an electric car enthusiast. Jonny is more than happy to oblige him! He explains that he's spent a lifetime's worth of money on cars, both personally and in his racing career, and has had the benefit of driving some of the world's nicest and most expensive cars as his daily drivers. Afeez expresses his surprise that Jonny would be an electric car enthusiast. Jonny shares a story about when cars were first introduced as a means of transportation to replace horses, and the problems that it solved in terms of cleanliness and health. He draws parallels between that point in history, and today when electric cars are becoming more popular at a time when they are desperately needed in order to clean the planet up yet again. Afeez asks Jonny about cars, and their impact on environmental damage. Jonny compares it to the debate between those who believe in creation, and those who believe in evolution, before going on o give a much more in depth explanation of the proof of damage being done. He talks about a study that was done that links living beside heavy traffic density and occurrences of dementia. They go on to talk about range anxiety, and the normal argument people have when it comes to switching to an electric car from an internal combustion engine. They also talk about the statistics for electric cars, and that people often misquote what electric vehicles are capable of. Afeez also explains his logic behind telling people to lease EV's rather than purchase them. Jonny tells a story of a street race he was once challenged to while driving an electric car, and the satisfying results of the event. Afeez asks Jonny his opinion on what would happen to the Grid if 50% of the UK converted over to electric cars. They discuss what wold have to happen in order to make that viable, as well as micro grids and the role they play. They also talk about the future of driving and electric cars, as well as laugh about the notion of flying cars! Quotes “Once a racer you're always a racer at heart” “That whole petrol thing is coming to an end, and that's the good news, isn't it?” “Electric cars have arrived at the point in time when the planet was just about to destroy itself” “There's been an acceptance for decades that cars produce emissions” “the thing with pollution is that it's not immediately obvious” “I would not like to be in the sky surrounded by the average driver” Links www.itselectric.co www.teslarentals.co.uk

Bad things happen. It’s only a question of when, how bad, and whether you’re resilient enough to ride through a bad time. As you move through life, there’ll be moments of frustration, anger, and discouragement. You had a flat tire on the way to an important meeting. Mortgage rates just went up. A new and aggressive competitor nabbed some of your valued clients. You got fired from a dream job. Your partner wants to break up the relationship. Site traffic is low. Your cat got bitten by a nasty poodle. So what do you do when times are tough? Do you give in to rage or disappointment? Or do you ignore them as if nothing happened? How people react to adversity is a good test on whether they are geared up for success. Winners roll with the punches and bounce back with a determined and positive outlook. Losers wallow in their pain (real or imagined) and refuse to take the next step moving forward. The best way to handle tough times is to face it with what I call “mental toughness.” Your mindset is your best armor when things don’t go your way. To help you build mental toughness, I’ve developed the Focus 5 Activity that I recommend you perform every three to four weeks. This activity helps fill up your core with things that uplift your attitude (gratefulness, pride) and things that motivate you to act on your goals (excitement, results). In this podcast, we’ll get into the details on how you should perform this 15-minute activity, which I guarantee will help you build a winning mindset that can handle even the toughest of times. In this episode, you will learn . . . A practical technique to improve your attitude and stay motivated. How to build your confidence through simple mental exercises. How to use personal goals to drive business results. Why being psychologically prepared helps you lift your career or grow your business. Quotes: “Once you get into the place of gratitude then you're gonna really pinpoint what you're proud of” “Think of 5 things that you are proud of that you can feel excited when you look at” “One of the deaths of all dreams and ambitions is complacency” Questions: What is your first reaction when something negative surprises you?

Donna's Final Push will inspire you to realize that it is never too late to reinvent yourself! Quotes: "Once you move, then there's a chance for the universe to move back toward you. "When I really connect in with that soul of me, I also realize that it's not just me thinking about the Universe, the Universe is thinking about me, and what kind of dream wants to be manifested through me." Show Notes: http://wp.me/p1sfi8-1H5 Support Sound Design Live on Patreon for as little as $1: https://www.patreon.com/sounddesignlive In this episode of the Sound Design Live podcast I speak with certified public accountant Rick Norris on creating a strategic plan for your business (which is what you need before a business plan) and who you should have on your team as a small business owner. We also answer the questions: What's the difference between a CPA and a bookkeeper? How do I protect myself from fraud (bogus checks!)? How do I know when I need a book keeper? What percentage of your income do medical bills need to be before you can claim them as a write-off? How do I use independent contractors without coming afoul of labor lays? How do I reduce my audit risk if I take a business loss? Details from the Podcast: All music in this episode by Gold Chains (https://soundcloud.com/topherlafata). Rick's articles and Rick Norris CPA on Facebook and Twitter Stephen Fishman's book and interview Medical expenses example: $100,000 income. 7.5% of that is $7,500. If you have $8,000 in medical expenses, you'll only get to deduct $500. But if you are self-employed then you can also deduct medical insurance payments on top of that. Tip: Tell your bank to alert you any time someone tries cash a check. Never have book keepers in charge of writing checks and doing bank reconciliations The IRS is really coming down on small businesses who improperly classify employees as independent contractors. Quotes: Once you've built the car, you need a map. That's what a strategic plan is. A road map of where you are going to be 10-20 years from now. Most people think that if they are not going out of the black, they're doing fine, but they really don't have a direction of where they are going. Keep one eye on the step in front of you and one eye on the horizon. If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Once you start going outside of your core competency you lose the risk of losing your vision and then the whole thing just falls apart. The more money you make, the less you can deduct.
