Kathryn Kellogg discusses her unexpected path to pursuing a zero waste lifestyle. Originally moved to eliminate plastics from her life following a breast cancer scare, Kathryn developed a lifestyle that has saved her money, reduced her waste stream and improved her health. She shares her journey with Dave and Marc, on how she eventually got to where she and her husband, Justin, have reduced their non-recyclable trash down to two Mason Jars over the last two years. If you think Catherine sounds like some eco-whack job, think again. She is rational, reasoned and funny. Best of all she shares easy, actionable steps for listeners to reduce their own waste streams without disrupting their lifestyle.   Kathryn also discusses:   Meeting her husband and getting him to embrace a no trash lifestyle   The health dangers of single stream plastics and BPA-coated paper receipts   Interacting with friends and family who don’t share a zero waste lifestyle   The easiest tips for others to reduce their waste stream   Links from this episode:   Kathryn Kellogg Instagram: @Going.zero.waste Kathryn Kellogg Going Zero Waste Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/goingzerowaste/ Kathryn Kellogg’s 101 Ways To Go Zero Waste book: https://amzn.to/2YWCoj0 Alicyn Yaffee (Theme Music): https://www.sonicbids.com/band/alicynyaffee Dave Mencarelli: www.davemecarelli.com Marc Yaffee Comedy: www.laughwithmarc.com  Marc Yaffee Corporate website: bookmarcnow.com  How Does That Happen on iTunes:  https://apple.co/2O5k6ri

Every Wednesday on the Hippie Haven podcast, learn how to live harmoniously with yourself, others & the planet. We talk about all things hippie, including eating vegan, reducing your trash, starting an ethical business, eco-activism, gardening, beekeeping, tiny house living, and so much more. Callee chats with Kathryn Kellog, the popular blogger behind GoingZeroWaste.com. Kathryn is a professional actor turned eco-activist. After a breast cancer scare led her to cutting plastic out of her life, she discovered the zero waste movement, and started her blog in 2015 about her journey to fit all of her trash in a 16 oz mason jar. She quickly became one of the most well-known names in the zero waste community, and has been featured on CNN, The Guardian, MSNBC + National Geographic, just to name a few. She now spends most of her time educating the public on the dangers of trash, plastic pollution, and food waste with small, actionable tips we can all implement to make the world a little greener. Her new book, 101 Ways To Go Zero Waste, will be released in April 2019 and is available for preorder now. The Hippie Haven Podcast is hosted by Callee - a zero waste activist & business owner. Formerly a translator for the US Navy, Callee was honorably discharged as a conscientious objector in 2017 following an episode of severe depression & alcoholism fueled by not living in alignment with her core values. That same year, at age 23, she started Bestowed Essentials, a handmade line of eco-friendly beauty & home products that are now stocked in over 100 stores around the US & Canada. Callee began hosting this free podcast in August 2018, as well as speaking at events and teaching educational workshops across the country, as part of her life mission to arm you with the knowledge & tools you need to spark positive change in your community. In December 2019, she opened The Hippie Haven in Rapid City, South Dakota - a zero waste retail store & community space with a little free library - the first of its kind in the state. She’ll be opening a second Hippie Haven in Salem, Oregon in Feb 2021.
