You asked, I listened! I'm starting a new series of episodes within my podcast of Healthy Living, Simple. I'm recording short ½ hour episodes specifically for you, inspired by the workshops I do in my wellness chiropractic office in Michigan.  My focus is always the nervous system first, followed by nutrition, movement, and mindset. It's not just in my practice, but it's the basis of my health institute, the American Institute of Healthy Living. My patients have raved about these classes for years, and now I'm bringing them directly to you! I'll be talking all things healthy living in these episodes—quick little “bites” of content with very innate, holistic approaches to health.  After all, I chose to be a Chiropractor because of the core belief of our profession in the innate healing of our amazing bodies.  I don't jump to a pill, or potion or surgery and other interventions first (albeit, there are times and places for those) but I look at more conservative options first (chiropractic adjustments, nutrition, exercise, mindset, etc.) Looking for my favorite products? That's because according to one expert we spoke with when it comes to getting the most beta-carotene from your carrots, the skin is where it's at.Even just shaving the outer skin off your carrots removes the most nutrient-dense part of the root vegetable, says Dr. Amy Sapola, Director of Health and Wellness at the Chefs Garden, a regenerative family farm in Ohio that grows and sells vegetables to restaurants and home cooks. Eat the skin, dirty spots, and all – since you'll also be getting minerals, beta-carotene, and other phytonutrients the carrot generates to stave off damage from the elements.Dr. Sapola has made it her life's work to get the most out of every bite of vegetables, starting with the soil they are grown in – and the regenerative way of farming with cover crops and organic fertilizer enhances the minerals in the soil, which means your vegetables deliver more antioxidants and goodness. to give you more energy from your food – to the way that vegetables are stored, cooked, prepped, and ultimately served. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Matty Lansdown. As a scientist and nutrition consultant with a passion for sharing the truth, Matty started on Facebook Live ranting about Food Is Medicine and Nutritional Therapies, which soon moved to seminars, retreats, and conferences in front of thousands and is now accompanied by his growing podcast called “How To NOT Get Sick And Die.” The aim has always been: to have people feel like they're in control of their health and empowered to take the necessary action! After ten years of study, research, and experimentation, Matty has worked to become a prolific voice in the health, nutrition, and diet space, including food is medicine, body detoxification, energy optimization, and weight loss.  To empower individuals to live their best life Matty deliver this scientific training through stories and metaphors that allow you to live a highly energetic life, increase your productivity, lose a few kilos in the process and do the things you used to without having to stare at the number on the scales. In this episode, Matty opens up the show by explaining what he learned from working at a cancer hospital. For one, Matty learned that lifestyle choices cause around 95% of cancers. That is one of the reasons why he is so passionate about nutrition, so Matty reveals why diet culture doesn't work and how you can slowly begin to change your lifestyle. Tune in as we chat about awakening people to the power of government, ways to celebrate your wins, and how to enjoy your food guilt-free. At university, Matty lived on beer, rice, pasta, and bread. Eventually, Matty got a job at a cancer hospital.  Matty learned that the World Health Organization said that 90 to 95% of cancers are due to diet, lifestyle, and tobacco.  At the time, only 5% of cancers were genetic.  Unfortunately, much of society doesn't believe that lifestyle choices cause cancer. [17:50] Why Diet Culture Doesn't Work and How To Do “One Tweak A Week” Some people have been on forty diets, and they are in a more unhealthy state than when they first began their journey.  You can't solve deep problems during an eight-week course.  Matty says, “one tweak a week.” If you jump too far out of your comfort zone, your nervous system will think it's unsafe and dangerous.  When you do one tweak a week, your new lifestyle will get built slowly over time. While on the other hand, when you go on a diet, you are supposed to do everything all at once.  [26:05] Making Long-Lasting Changes That Are Meaningful and Sustainable  Most people want everything to happen tomorrow; however, you need the maturity to understand that it is impossible. You will trick yourself into failing if you think everything will change tomorrow. If you do too much too fast, you will wear yourself out.  There is not enough space in 24 hours to live an unsustainable transformation. Make your tweak meaningful, but not too significant or too much change at one time.  [33:15] How Covid Is Awakening People To The Power of The Media and The Government  Melbourne is the most locked-down city on the planet.  It has been a lonely and challenging time in Melbourne. Matty noticed that Netflix had photoshopped masks onto their thumbnails during the pandemic.  Covid is awakening people to the power of the media and the fact that the news is a PR agency for the government.  Now, people are thinking about what belief systems have been embedded in their subconscious.  [37:00] Forming Your Own Identity By Challenging Your Ideas and Belief Systems Perpetually challenging the ideas in your head is a healthy way to start forming your own identity. We meet and eat with our friends and families, so we have the same relationships around food as we do with our loved ones.  Is your relationship with food one that you have, or is it one that has been embedded in you?  Anything is possible once you take control of your belief systems and your own decisions. [42:00] The Reason You Should Permit Yourself To Enjoy Something Guilt-Free Sometimes you can give yourself permission to enjoy chocolate and birthday cake. Once you finish the chocolate, you should return to the way you existed before. Remember, you don't have to fall off the bandwagon and beat yourself up.  Foods that you enjoy don't have to be eradicated forever.  If you choose to eat something unhealthy, make sure to have love and respect for yourself still.  [48:10] Accountability and Celebrations Are Essential For Your Journey  Have people in your life to keep you accountable for celebrations. It's too easy to focus on the negative.  Instead, you need someone to remind you to celebrate.  If you don't have time to enjoy the process, then what's the point? When you celebrate small things, they become big things.  AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Check out Matty's Website: https://mattylansdown.com How To Not Get Sick And Die: https://player.whooshkaa.com/shows/how-to-not-get-sick-and-die Follow Matty Lansdown Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mattylansdown YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCztErJj0TNFzFl2dK7uHDSw LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matty-lansdown-0bb76b61/ Intermittent Fasting for Optimal Health: https://www.facebook.com/groups/intermittentfastingforoptimalhealth/ Join the Busy Mum's Facebook Group: https://mattylansdown.com/BusyMothersFBgroup Join the Keto Kamp Academy: https://ketokampacademy.com/7-day-trial-a Watch Keto Kamp on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUh_MOM621MvpW_HLtfkLyQ Get Keto Flex on Audible for Free (New Customers Only): https://adbl.co/36d6A24 Get Keto Flex on Audible here for current customers: https://adbl.co/3699lBm / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. In this week's Aging GreatFULLy we celebrate the rich bounty found in Love, Peace and Vegetables as we welcome guest Marcela Benson, M.A., author of just that book! This power-hour will capture the heart of even meat and potato enthusiasts with a dialogue rich in wisdom for passionate living and healthy lifestyles. We discover in the opening, vegetables have had their share of twists, turns and trials throughout time, but it's hard to imagine life today without them! And today, many are learning to love vegetables in more ways than ever before. Marcela Benson is a Spiritual Nutrition Counselor, Essene Priestess, and author based in Miami Beach, Florida. She is a healer, passionate poet, avid student and spiritual teacher. And she created Love, Peace & Vegetables: Recipes for Conscious Living, as an inspirational guide to bring health, spirituality, positivity and compassion to the lives and homes of readers. This Magnus Opus coffee table book holds more than 18 years of research in the field of body, mind, spirit and began nutrition and she brings this knowledge together as an exquisitely designed book that includes lifestyle advice, inspiration, poetry, affirmations, tips, pristine eating food prep instruction never before assembled in one place, including menus, over 150 Live-Food, Vegan recipes, original art, and gorgeous color photography of luscious mouth-watering dishes to entice any pallet. Between the pages of her book and in our conversation, we discuss the importance of water, as Marcela talks about what we should know about drinking water including gemstone water. She shares how even those who haven't cared for vegetables in the past can come to enjoy them. She imparts wisdom for Aging GreatFULLy and appreciating life and is candid about what we know as we journey through life – you'll have to listen to find out what I mean here! But the story about what led her to create this book is a special one… including how this beautiful, one-of-a-kind book came to be. Part-guidebook, part manual, exquisite picture book and work of art, celebration of food and life, as well as her Sage approach of adding more love, peace and for some – even perhaps servings of vegetables – to the world, it is certainly a gift worth giving. What would happen if we took “normal” off the table and looked at life with fresh eyes to decide what we want it to look like going forward?  It's so interesting how easy it is to get caught up in doing life the same way we always have for no other reason than, that's what we know.  We do what we're comfortable with, over and over.  But, what are we missing out on because of that?  What if you decided to do things differently to see what it would be like?  How does it feel to even consider that?  Who would you be if you weren't “the strong one”, “the sweet one”, or “ the sassy one”?  Check out this week's show and let's talk about what it means to do things in new ways just because you want to.  Referred to in this episode:  Better Than Before Breast Cancer Life Coaching Membership

Bad air, toxic household products, and everyday materials that we take for granted could be making us and our loved ones sick. And they are.
