About Brent:Brent Bowers, is an investor and coach with a focus on buying and selling vacant land. As an Army Officer with over 8 years of service, Brent was spending a great deal of time away from his family, and he knew he needed to make some changes in order to be more present with his wife and children. In a short period of time, Brent was able to expand his business, hire a team, and (most importantly) spend quality time with his family while still working hard and helping others. While Brent invests in many different types of real estate, his favorite investment strategy deals with buying and selling vacant land, and he enjoys sharing his expertise in this area with his coaching clients. Brent chooses to live his life based on Bob Burg's quote, “Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.” He is passionate about helping other people find success in real estate investing, particularly in land investments.Links From The Podcast https://twitter.com/TheLandSharks1https://www.facebook.com/brentlbowers1https://www.linkedin.com/in/brent1/http://thelandsharks.com/podcast/Williamp2pre (Twitter)https://peer2peerrealestate.com/www.facebook.com/peer2peerrealestatehttps://www.linkedin.com/in/williemorales/Book Recommended The Wealthy Gardener- John SoforicThank you Brent for being on the PodcastPlease go to Apple Podcasts look for us at Peer 2 Peer Real Estate Podcasts, subscribe and leave a reviewKeep the momentum going, Good things will happen.Thank you and Stay safe. Brent Bowers' interest in real estate began in 2007 when he purchased his first home. In a short amount of time, Brent was able to expand his business. While Brent invests in many different types of real estate, his favorite investment strategy deals with buying and selling vacant land, and he enjoys sharing his expertise in this area with his coaching clients. Did you know that he bought his first property by borrowing a money deposit from his Great Grandmother? He felt like his grandma tricked him by saying that if he won't pay her, it'll come out of his inheritance. So he paid him back from his agent's commission, but in the end, he never got his inheritance. Brent started buying houses and buying rentals. He wanted to be a little bit different so he started buying land at massive discounts. He started turning around and selling land at premium and retail prices to people that can afford a monthly payment. That took him into a whole new strategy. He's getting passive land income. He started reinvesting back to buildings, houses, and commercial apartments for the tax savings. In our conversation, we discussed:Best-kept secret when it comes to land investingSteps of becoming an land expertPaying delinquent taxes Connect with Brent Bowers:Website: thelandsharks.comLove the show? Brent Nowicki, the new FINA Executive Director is young, only 42 years old. He grew up an age group swimmer, a breaststroker, in the United States and played DI lacrosse at Fairfield University before receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. When SwimSwam captured this interview Brent had only been on the job eight days. Despite his youthful age, Brent is stepping into the chief executive position with respectable experience across many international federations. He's the former Managing Counsel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). I asked around, and leaders I trust in swimming felt he could've gone down a few different career paths. They felt we're lucky to have him. I hope they are correct. Off camera the message from Brent was clear. Under his leadership swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming will experience more transparency, engagement, and communication from FINA, our international governing body. From my experience with FINA that would be a 180 degree turn from the policy of the former executive director, Cornel Marculescu of Romania, who held the position for 35 years. We obviously captured the interview at U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha. While Brent's first aquatic trip as ED was to the United States, that was simply because of timing. U.S. Trials was the first big event to see elites and governance in action since he assumed the position. Brent will be on the road a lot this year, seeing aquatic sports federations around world. The interview came together last minute thanks Dale Neuburger, former FINA Vice President, now FINA Treasurer. I've known Dale for many years. He is a tough leader. He lets you know where he stands, and he lets you always know where you stand with him. To Dale's credit, he headed the search committee that landed Brent, and it's seem clear Dale's mission was to find a youthful, energetic executive. I didn't grill Brent. He's too new to the gig, but I had to at least ask Dale about the complicated relationship between FINA and the International Swimming League (ISL). I thought Dale would respond "no comment" for a variety of reasons, but he didn't flinch, and, in fact, had quite a bit to say. Watch to the end. Dale's forthcoming and clear on the topic. This week we are joined by Brent Basham who is a co-founder of the platform Poddit which is a website that connects podcasters and guests. Brent is here today to discuss the book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. While I have not personally read the book, it is something that has been on my radar after I was blown away by How to Win Friends and Influence People. Mostly because I had an impression of both of those books that was completely baseless and inaccurate. Brent has read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People multiple times and found it had a profound impact on his own life. Brent was very generous with his time and walked through a high level review of the book and each of the habits that are contained within. Brent is somebody that I resonated with as soon as I met him. I was very excited to have him on the show and was really blown away by his insights. While Brent didn't write the book that we are discussing, he has obviously spent time considering and internalizing the lessons within. As always the conversation winds around as we cover the topics of the book. Music by Misha Zarins. The Beatles said it best. We get by with a little help from our friends. Or something like that. And it’s true. We learn more and become more productive when we’re with other people, especially our friends and trusted colleagues. However, bringing a group together for an impactful conversation with meaningful outcomes does not happen by accident. We used to solve this problem with single events. The newer, more successful approach is long term, connected groups, communicating virtually and in periodic group gatherings. It’s a cohort of professionals supporting each other in the long term process of learning, and behaviour change. While Brent is away this week, Megan Torrance is joining Chris to talk about the power of learning with your friends. You may know Megan from her years of experience running the xAPI Cohort, or her past episodes on IDIODC. In this conversation we’ll talk with Megan about how the cohort framework can be applied in so many different corporate situations as a comprehensive learning and development solution. Megan Torrance is CEO and founder of TorranceLearning, which helps organizations connect learning strategy to design, development, data and ultimately performance. Megan has over 25 years of experience in learning design, deployment and consulting. Megan and the TorranceLearning team are passionate about sharing what works in learning so they devote considerable time to teaching and sharing about Agile project management for learning experience design and, of course, the xAPI. TorranceLearning hosts the xAPI Learning Cohort, a free, virtual 12-week learning-by-doing opportunity where teams form on the fly and create proof-of-concept xAPI projects. Megan is the author of The Quick Guide to LLAMA, and two ATD TD at Work publications: Agile and LLAMA® for ISD Project Management and Making Sense of xAPI. She is a frequent speaker at conferences nationwide. TorranceLearning projects have won several Brandon Hall Group awards, the 2014 xAPI Hyperdrive contest at DevLearn, and back-to-back eLearning Guild DemoFest Best-In-Show awards in 2016/2017 with xAPI projects. Brenton Dean is the brazen and intrepid front man and guitarist of The Holy White Hounds. While Brent cockily strides on stage, off stage he is a very humble and honest guy who acknowledges the obstacles placed before him and his band. He also holds a reverence for performing which he feels is sometimes not as respected by others as it should be. The Hound's straight forward rock sound has them winning audiences around the Midwest. We cover the wealth of this as well as; mexican food, growing up South Side, sketchy guitar shops, camping, cutting his teeth in The Dig Angees & La Strange, bestiality, touring, and the making of HWH's newest album "Sparkle, Sparkle."
