Doug Sakmann was a truly special individual – a valued member of the Troma Team, friend, filmmaker, and shit disturber. Doug first joined Troma as a production assistant on Citizen Toxie, working his way up to an associate producer, and then going on to produce the Troma's Edge TV series while joining the company full-time as the Head of Production, a position he held until 2002 when he left to form his own production company Backseat Conceptions, which created the Punk Rock Holocaust film series in association with the Vans Warped Tour. Doug also produced and starred in the Kabukiman's Cocktail Corner web series, and he became synonymous with Sgt. Kabukiman, having portrayed the character far more times than anyone else. In addition, Doug was also a journeyman special effects artist, having created FX for everything from music videos to commercials to video games to TV shows and feature films, including the Return to Nuke 'Em High films and Shakespeare's Shitstorm.Doug tragically passed away on June 27, 2024 at just 43 years old. In July of 2023, we sat down with Doug for over two hours to talk about his time in Tromaville. The original intent was to use clips of the interview across various topics that we're covering on the show. Send us a Text Message. The band Rehab originated in Warner Robins, GA, in the 1970s, with Danny Boone Alexander's musical upbringing playing a pivotal role. Influenced by the music his family played, including Johnny Paycheck's “Take This Job and Shove It,” and memorable experiences like listening to “Sky Rockets in Flight” at the Crazy 8 Race Track during the Bicentennial, Danny's passion for music was evident from a young age. Initially drawn to rock and southern rock, his musical tastes broadened with the emergence of the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and NWA, cementing his love for hip hop. Danny's first rap performance was at 15 during a high school pep rally, igniting his pursuit of a music career. In his late teens, Danny began working professionally with his friend Denny “Steaknife” Campbell under the name "Prime Suspect." The duo's collaboration led to the formation of Rehab after meeting Jason Brooks. Despite Steaknife's legal troubles, Danny and Jason signed with Epic Records, releasing “Southern Discomfort” in 2000. The album featured contributions from Goodie Mob's Cee-Lo and Big Gipp, as well as Cody Chesnutt, selling over 140,000 copies and reaching the top 15 of the Modern Rock charts with “It Don't Matter.” They toured nationally, sharing stages with Linkin Park and the Kottonmouth Kings during the Vans Warped Tour.Following creative differences, Danny and Brooks parted ways, and Rehab was revitalized in 2005. The band recorded “Graffiti the World” with notable contributors like Bonecrusher, Phil Tan, and Billy Hume. The album was initially released independently until Danny signed with Universal Records in 2008. A collaboration with Hank Williams Jr. on “Sittin' at a Bar” garnered a CMT nomination for Wide-Open Country Video of the Year in 2009. Rolling Stone featured Rehab's renamed single, “The Bartender Song,” on its "Hot List." Over the years, they've shared the stage with the likes of Hot Mulligan, Tiny Moving Parts, Everyone Leaves, Microwave, Life Lessons, A Story Told, and A Will Away, among others. In 2017, they also won the opportunity to play the main stage at the Vans Warped Tour in Cincinnati alongside the likes of Beartooth, Neck Deep, and Hands Like Houses. In 2016, Mascots released their debut EP entitled Nothing To Lose, which was followed by EPs The Good In Me and Time To Time in 2017. Since that time, Mascots has persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued to release and work on new music. In April, they dropped a new single entitled "Slipping In The Dark," alongside an accompanying music video. Mascots followed up that release with their latest single "Vertigo," which dropped in May. On June 28th, Mascots is set to release their new EP entitled Bad News on a Beautiful Day.  On this episode, Robert and Alex talk with Mike about how they got into music, Mascots' formation and Cincy roots, developing their sound, working with Seth Henderson, what it was like getting to play the main stage at Warped Tour in Cincinnati, persevering through the pandemic, the resurgence of pop-punk and emo, and more. In this week's episode, we are joined by one of Greg's favorite people from the music scene, Scott Lightsey. Scott was the drummer for The Pennyroyals as they toured all over including their run on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. Greg and Scott's friendship dates back to over 20 years, and they talk all about their time together. Scott gives his thoughts on the first time they ever met as he saw Greg as Winnie the Pooh during their Warped Tour Set. They also talk all about the New York / New Jersey music scene back in the early 2000's and how the pop punk/emo scene took over. From the days of shows at Krome, to Birch Hill, to NJ basements, to firehouses, and all the way to the Warped Tour at Asbury Park, Greg and Scott tell it all! Scott is still playing drums today and it won't be long until their paths meet again at a show! Take a trip back with us to the good old days of our music scene and show this Mississippi boy some of our East Coast love! Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnFinger Eleven, a Canadian rock band, has made a mark in alternative music with their genre-defying sound. Known for their hits like "Paralyzer" and "One Thing," they've captivated fans with anthemic melodies, introspective ballads, and energetic performances. With over two decades of music, Finger Eleven continues to push boundaries and redefine the alternative rock landscape.Craft Recordings pays tribute to the enduring career of Finger Eleven with the release of their first collection of hit singles, titled "Greatest Hits." Spanning over two decades, this album showcases the band's diverse range with beloved fan favorites, including their multi-platinum hit "Paralyzer" and the Juno-nominated "One Thing." Chart-topping tracks such as "Falling On" and "Living in a Dream" are also featured. As a special treat, the 12-track set includes a previously-unreleased cover of Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine," a long-standing live staple, as well as Finger Eleven's first new single in over seven years, titled "Together Right." The single is available for streaming and downloading today.Frontman Scott Anderson explains the meaning behind "Together Right," stating that it symbolizes unity and explores the strength of bonds between people. The song's optimistic-sounding chorus masks a desperate plea for another party to stick around and face challenges together. Recorded in Toronto last year with drummer/producer Steve Molella, the track packs a punch with its anthemic guitar-driven hooks and high-energy handclaps. The "Greatest Hits" album will be released on CD and digitally on June 16th, with the vinyl edition following on August 25th. This vinyl release marks the band's first-ever venture into the vinyl format. A limited-edition Blue Smoke pressing will be exclusively available through the band's website and CraftRecordings.com. Additionally, indie record stores will carry an exclusive Yellow Marble variant. Fans can also find a collectible version of the CD with unique packaging at Walmart, along with a Walmart-exclusive Purple Smoke LP. All formats are available for pre-order now.Reflecting on this momentous retrospective release, Anderson shares his excitement, stating that after six albums and over 20 years together, Finger Eleven is thrilled to finally release a greatest hits album. He emphasizes the band's dedication to selecting the right songs, determining the running order, and curating a vinyl version that complements the beautiful new art created by James Black.Finger Eleven, one of Canada's best-selling bands and Juno Award-winning rockers, has forged a lasting legacy with their genre-defying sound. From cathartic metal and alt-rock balladry to danceable funk and power pop, their music consistently surprises and engages fans. The band's story began in 1990 when Scott Anderson, Rick Jackett, James Black, Sean Anderson, and drummer Rob Gommerman (later replaced by Rich Beddoe) started playing together in high school. They released their debut album, "Letters from Chutney," under the name "Rainbow Butt Monkeys" in 1995, before adopting the name Finger Eleven for their subsequent LP, "Tip." The album caught the attention of Wind-up Records, who signed the band in 1997 and re-released "Tip" a year later.Through relentless touring with bands like Creed and Fuel, as well as participating in the Vans Warped Tour, Finger Eleven broke into the US market with singles like "Above," which became a Top 40 hit on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. They continued their momentum with "The Greyest of Blue Skies" (2000), featuring singles like "First Time" and "Drag You Down," which achieved Gold certification in Canada and reached No. 17 on This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Not only did "When The Night" launch their career, the song developed a life of its own.  It was everywhere. You could hear it in grocery stores, on TV ads and on kids shows. Years later, some Bedouin Soundclash fans were surprised to learn that this was one of their song since it was the soundtrack to their childhood. Bedouin took a hiatus for a decade, and returned in 2019 with the record Mass. But in 2022, they released their best record of their career (And one of the best ska albums of the 2022), We Will Meet In A Hurricane. We talk to Jay Malinowski and Eon Sinclair about this wonderful record and their interesting career. We also discuss the new albums' guest contributors: Aimee Interrupter (The Interrupters), Marcia Richards (The Skints), and Kathryn Calder (New Pornographers). The band talks about what it was like to open for No Doubt, Slightly Stoopid and to play the Vans Warped Tour twice. And they tell us some experiences of playing the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival. We also talk bear sightings on their "Walk Through Fire" video shoot, working with Bad Brains' Darryl Jenifer on their early records, Jay's struggles with addiction, and what it was like for him to lose his voice at the Leeds Festival in 2006 and have the entire crowd sing for him. Plus we talk about Waffle House, a lot. Adam schools us all with Waffle House facts and Jay tells us a story he's never told before that involves tripping on mushrooms in a Waffle House and being terrified.Support the show

Carol knows how to throw a badass party! And her parties raise millions for Indianapolis nonprofit organizations. In this episode, we talked about her career - including working at Motorola executing their sponsorships of Vans Warped Tour, X Games and their motorsports sponsorship of Michael Andretti. In 2018, she directed the Universal Studios UK Movie Premiere “Born Racer” held at Indianapolis State Museum. She directed the Premiere and coordinated the pre-event cocktail reception, red carpet, media, and photo opportunities with Universal Studios. One year later, she planned and managed a press conference and trailer premiere for the “Ford vs. Ferrari” movie, attended by Academy Award-winning actors Matt Damon and Christian Bale, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She has an amazing career, but her favorite job is being a mother to three strong and resilient girls. She opened up about a difficult pregnancy with her twins - if she delivered full term, all three of them would've died due to a very dangerous infection in Carol's placenta. She credits IU Health to saving their lives and providing her the best care the weeks and months ahead of her delivery. For that, Rev has become her labor of love and her way of giving back to the hospital. We talked about feeling vulnerable, finding joy, the things that really matter to her, and what has led to her success. Tune in to hear about Carol's friend Ashley Judd and the "crappy" ending for her first pair of designer sunglasses. Learn more about Rev: https://revindy.org/

Kaya Stewart has been writing and recording songs since she was 13 years old. Sure Dave Stewart of Eurythmics is her Dad but that doesn't guarantee talent or success and she knows that. After a song she wrote and recorded blew up on Soundcloud, records labels started knocking on her door.  Soon she found herself on Warner Brothers Records and out on the Vans Warped Tour but it wasn't all dreamy. Kaya decided to start over and do things her way. During the Pandemic she was diagnosed with OCD which was the catalyst to write the collection of songs that make up her new album IF THINGS GO SOUTH which was co-written and co-produced by Dave Stewart. The record comes out Sept 30th and will be available on all streaming platforms. Kaya has an incredible voice and is a great songwriter and I really dig some of the songs on her new album. I think you guys are really gonna dig this episode. We had the pleasure of interviewing Zachary Ross and The Divine over Zoom video.Zachary Ross and The Divine release their debut single “A Light Over Massachusetts” and announce their signing to Smartpunk Records. With an EP on the way and more singles to come, this track marks Zac's first solo project since his days as the frontman in the beloved pop-punk band Man Overboard. The track masterfully showcases the group's distinct ability to create nostalgia-inspired modern rock music. The lyrics are a heartfelt dedication to a fellow musician and long-time friend. You may recall Zachary Ross from one of the most pivotal pop-punk bands of the 2010s - Man Overboard. His musical talents landed him on the main stage of the Vans Warped Tour, on the top 20 Billboard rock charts, and on worldwide tours with sold-out crowds on multiple continents. When the band came to an end, Zac tended to his family life and struggled with mental illness of his own. After a few years under the radar, he felt it was time to make new music under his own name in the summer of 2021. His agent Matt Pike encouraged him to take the plunge by reminding him that if he puts great music out, the world will probably listen, or at least some people. With that fire lit, Zac headed to Hollywood to make a record and a new band of his own. Despite Man Overboard reunion plans in the future, Zachary Ross and The Divine is his latest full-time effort and main outlet as a songwriter. The new tracks explore the stories of his life including love, loss, growth, and change. The familiar and beloved characteristics of Zac's previous musical endeavors are present and seamlessly blend with his new perspective and approach as a solo artist. His first EP under the moniker is set to release on August 19, 2022 via Smartpunk Records. We want to hear from you!
