X-Men '97 is back... and somehow Season 2 might already be even better than the incredible first season! After one of the greatest superhero TV seasons ever made, Marvel Studios had enormous expectations to meet. Through the first four episodes of X-Men '97 Season 2, we think they're off to an outstanding start. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Episodes 1-4 of X-Men '97 Season 2, discussing the incredible action, shocking story developments, Apocalypse's rise, Cable's emotional journey, Magneto's biggest moments, and what we think is coming in the rest of the season. COLD OPEN (First 30 Minutes) Before discussing X-Men '97, we cover some of the biggest stories in superhero movies and pop culture: • Is The Flash really as bad as Madame Web? • Rumored characters appearing in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow (Justice Gang, John Stewart, Blue Beetle, Peacemaker, and Martian Manhunter & more!) • The Batman Part II delayed once again until February 2028 • Could James Gunn leave DC Studios after Paramount's reported acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery? • Why Clayface could become the sleeper hit of the DC Universe • Can The Odyssey or Spider-Man: Brand New Day become the next billion-dollar blockbuster? FULL SPOILER DISCUSSION After the news, we jump into a full spoiler breakdown of X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 1-4. We discuss: • The X-Men being divided across the past and future • En Sabah Nur's transformation into Apocalypse • Apocalypse vs. Magneto • The shocking ending to their battle • Nathan Summers (Cable) and his relationship with Scott Summers and Jean Grey • Apocalypse's Horsemen • X-Factor and X-Force in 1997 • Favorite characters and standout performances • The incredible animation • Fast-paced storytelling • Comic book inspirations and Easter eggs • Our predictions for the rest of Season 2 Marvel Studios continues to prove why X-Men '97 has become one of the best superhero animated series ever made. The emotional storytelling, stunning animation, incredible action sequences, and faithful adaptation of classic X-Men comics have us completely hooked. From Apocalypse's terrifying rise to Magneto's unforgettable moments, Cable's emotional family story, and the introduction of X-Factor and X-Force, these first four episodes are packed with everything we love about the X-Men. If the rest of the season maintains this level of quality, X-Men '97 Season 2 could surpass an already phenomenal first season. Whether you're a lifelong X-Men fan, a Marvel Comics reader, or someone discovering these characters for the first time, this review is packed with deep comic book discussions, theories, Easter eggs, and predictions for what's coming next. Listen as the guys discuss Emma D'Arcy's immaculate performance in a Rhaenyra-centric episode, the emotional/mental toll of now having the crown, Rhaenyra's focus being pulled into so many different directions, Daemon's lofty goals, Ormund Hightower's plans, the music adding so much tension, how the series deftly highlights the parallels of today's rich with the series' nobles, and Ulf... uh... absolutely not. Then the guys discuss how season 2 of X-Men '97 hasn't missed a beat so far, who Mother Askani seems to be, what the reveal in the past means for a certain conqueror we all know, Magneto not being the most ideal choice to guide someone, Jubilee getting to showcase all of her abilities, why the series is able to excel so well at letting lesser known mutants shine, and more!   Rate, review, like, and/or subscribe to Comicast on whatever podcast app you're using; Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Castbox, Goodpods, Podcast Addicts, or whatever your podcast app you use!  Feedback, questions, or topic ideas for the show? Tony revisits the red carpet for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the two‑part animated epic directed by Jay Oliva and adapted from Frank Miller's seminal 1986 comic. Released in 2012 and 2013, the films depict a dystopian Gotham where an aging, battle‑scarred Bruce Wayne, now 55, is forced out of retirement as the city collapses under violence, corruption, and moral decay. Conversations with David Selby (Commissioner Gordon), Jay Oliva, and legendary voice director Andrea Romano capture the creative energy behind a story that reshaped how audiences understand Batman — not as a symbol of youth and invincibility, but as a man confronting time, trauma, and the consequences of a lifetime of war. Setting the Stage: Gotham in Decline Ten years after Batman's disappearance, Gotham is overrun by the Mutants, a violent gang whose rise symbolizes societal collapse. Bruce Wayne, haunted by the death of Jason Todd, struggles with aging, guilt, and the fading relevance of his mission. The film's dystopian tone reflects Miller's original intent: a world where institutions fail, heroes fracture, and morality becomes a battlefield. The Dark Knight Returns is a cornerstone of modern superhero storytelling — a meditation on identity, legacy, and the human cost of heroism.  SAVE 17% ON PLUS

Vampire: The Masquerade is expanding its presence on D&D Beyond with a new 5.5E crossover product titled Bound by Blood, published by Ghostfire Gaming and featuring a new Kindred class and adventure. This move follows similar partnerships with other publishers, indicating a trend of rival games embracing the 5.5E ruleset. In a related shift, Renegade Games has announced it will discontinue its bespoke Essence20 system for new editions of its licensed properties like Transformers, GI Joe, and Power Rangers, transitioning instead to a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons 5.5E to reach a broader player base. Green Ronin Publishing has officially released Valiant Adventures, a new TTRPG setting supplement for the Mutants & Masterminds third edition system. Based on the Valiant Universe, a shared world featuring characters like Bloodshot and X-O Manowa, the release includes two main volumes: the Hero's Handbook and the Worlds of Valiant sourcebook. These supplements provide updated combat mechanics, a new “Hero Point” economy, and extensive lore, allowing players to explore this gritty and morally complex comic universe without requiring additional source material. Award-winning designer Mike Shea, known as Sly Flourish, has announced Rise of the Lazy Gamemaster, a new 160-page resource designed to complement his previous Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master series. Unlike his earlier works that focused primarily on D&D 5E, this upcoming book will be system-agnostic, offering tools, tips, and adventure outlines adaptable to various systems including Shadowdark, Daggerheart, and Dragonbane. Shea aims to provide practical advice to speed up preparation and enhance interactivity, with a crowdfunding campaign for the project scheduled to launch in early July. The independent TTRPG market has a new competitor with the launch of RPG Trader, a marketplace created by Ten Acre Games founder Hugh Lashbrooke to support indie creators. Designed as a specific alternative to larger platforms like DriveThruRPG and Itch.io, RPG Trader focuses on discoverability and flexible publishing tools, offering creators an 80% share of sales revenue. The platform distinguishes itself with a zero-tolerance policy for AI-generated content, an integrated print-on-demand service through Lulu, and a detailed taxonomy system to help players find games based on specific play styles and themes. #vapirerpg #valiantcomics #lazydungeonmaster #rpgtrader Valiant Adventures for Mutans and Masterminds: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/567952/valiant-adventures-worlds-of-valiant?affiliate_id=2081746 RPG Trader: https://rpg-trader.com/ Roll Big or Go Home Bundle: https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/k49Mnd Doctor Who and Warhammer to Cthulhu, Transformers, and even My Little Pony! This is a fixed version that should not cut off.  Oh no, it looks like Jeff and Rick have been locked in a closet and now have to talk about a selection of scenes from other comic books. They must have run out of money for their show, or lost a bet. One of the two. It does not matter. They are middle aged and can use the time to sleep or talk or do whatever it is that you do during a clip show. To start off, I love Kurt Wagner. Nightcrawler is easily one of my favorite Marvel Comic characters. His design is fantastic. The color scheme of his OG costume, the tail, his overall look. Chief's kiss. And his characterization is wonderful. A German Errol Flynn, with charm, wit and pathos. Being a fan of the Chris Claremont run of the X-Men, and beginning my collection just before the Fall of the Mutants, I was there for the creation of Excalibur, and seeing Kurt as a leader, and the soul of a team. Reading back through his development was a treat. I alway loved any spotlight he received. I hunted down his original mini-series, and I looked for other appearances with him. I always appreciated the deep friendship they had, even though they were opposites. I like to read their history as Kurt being a center for Logan. Of course, reading back into the history of the X-Men, you get the Mutant Massacre and one of the first times your see some serious consequences placed on the team. Kurt and Kitty's injuries pull them out of the X-Men and into Excalibur. This is a center piece story for all hardcore X-Men fans. I guess I can wax Nightcrawlers car all day long. He is a great character, a great design, a great history, and just overall great. I like that he is usually not overused either. Some of his stories have been really bad, but I blame the writer, not the character for those errors. Oh, Wolverine died and Kurt is sad. OK, let's see what new madness next issue brings us.   Check out our clip show at our website:  https://jeffandrickpresent.wordpress.com/2026/05/11/nightcrawler-v4-7-death-of-wolverine/   We also have some merchandise over at Redbubble. Ultimate X-Men - The 2001 Reboot Of Marvel's Mutants

The 90's were a bad decade for Marvel's Mutants, and it took some seismic changes and bold creative risks to save the franchise, the biggest being the 2001 reboot of the franchise - Ultimate X-Men! Marvel Comics hit the reset button and created a brand new imagining of Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the rest of the X-Men's huge cast of characters. Mark Millar and Andy Kubert re-imagined Marvel's mutants and positioned them in the middle of a world in the shadow of the 9/11 attacks and waging a war that violated a lot of personal rights. Social and political satire wrapped up in a sci-fi package! Every month on Patreon we take a special deep-dive into a Marvel comic book, event, or timeline to examine all the highs and lows of the Marvel Universe. The Strange Brew - artist stories behind the greatest music ever recorded

Rat Scabies needs little introduction as the thunderous drummer of The Damned. His collaborator in One Thousand Motels, Chris Constantinou, has had a career that has taken him from the studio with Chas Chandler, to the Live Aid stage at Wembley with Adam Ant, and into the recording booth with Sinéad O’Connor. Rat and Chris describe how they first met through The Mutants, a collaborative project that assembled an unlikely roll-call of rock veterans including Wilco Johnson, Wayne Kramer and Norman Watt-Roy. That project proved too unwieldy to tour so they stripped it back, formed a two-man core, and called it One Thousand Motels. The result was 2% Out of Sync, an album that has taken almost six years to find its way onto vinyl, and into listeners’ hands. Give these people airrrrrr! Total Recall, is a sci-fi classic. It's got Arnold Schwarzenegger at his prime of being an action hero. But let's not forget this movie was based on a Philip K. Dick short story, which is why it leaves viewers wondering, what the hell was real? It's got kamakzi robot-driving cars. Mutants, like the woman with three boobs. It has Pretty solid CG effects for it's time. And its packed with one-liners by Arnie.Great casting with a young Sharon Stone, the over-the-top villain Michael Ironside, and if you look closely, Hank from Breaking Bad!Not all 90's sci-fi tests the test of time, but we'd argue that this is one worth revisiting if you enjoy fun action.Stick around after the conversation for a round of Arnold Trivia!Safe travels, nomads.
