This past weekend, Chris Kaye and Kenneth Dean drove up to Ft. Worth, TX from the outskirts of Houston where they live to go see Iron Maiden in concert. And while they were driving up, they decided it would be a great time to record an episode. So that's what they did. They went back to what they did when they first met. They brought up a subject and just started talking about it. So what was the topic you ask? Why all the hate? All musical artists have their fans and their critics, but some artists elicit such an emotional response from fans and critics alike it begs one to wonder why? On this episode, the guys discussed 3 bands that have all had enormous success and also have some of the harshest critics: Nickelback, Creed and Metallica. So sit back, relax, turn it up to 11 and let the debate begin. After the rise and fall of Grunge, the New Wave of American Heavy Metal saw an explosion of new artists and new styles. One of the bands that stood out and lead the way was Lamb of God. Formed in 1994 as Burn the Priest, the band released their self titled debut album in 1999 and 1 year later changed their name to Lamb of God and the rest they say is history. After 10 full length albums (9 Lamb of God, 2 Burn the Priest), 1 EP and 1 live album, Lamb of God have sold over 2 million albums in the US and after touring with bands such as Anthrax, Megadeth and most recently Pantera, Lamb of God show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The guys have chosen 15 songs each from their catalog that they consider their best songs. Any tracks they duplicate will automatically make the list. Whichever songs are not, they'll debate to see which makes the final cut. Then they'll arrange them in concert setlist order for the ULTIMATE LAMB OF GOD GREATEST HITS and at the end, they'll give you our BIG 4 Lamb of God albums. So sit back, relax and turn it up to 11 and let the debate begin. Metallica released their latest album on April 14, 2023 and we decided to give you a review of the album. Writing for the album began in 2020 during the pandemic shutdown and recording began in March of 2021 and finished in November of last year. The album was announced shortly thereafter on the Howard Stern show and the single “Lux Aeterna” was released that day. Joining us on the episode is Sklo who sat in recently when Chris Kaye was under the weather. So with that said, we've listened to all 12 songs and we're going to give you what we honestly think of this release, warts and all on this special episode of Debating Metal – The 72 Seasons Review. On this episode Chris Kaye returns as he and Kenneth Dean, the Dean of Metal once again going back to the 80's for a head-to-head that no one saw coming. Known for their motto “Death to False Metal”, today it's Manowar's Fighting the World vs. Kings of Metal. After signing their major label record contract, Manowar released their 1987 album Fighting the World to a generally good response and MTV picked up on their music video for “Blow Your Speakers” which got some decent airplay in the channel. Their follow up LP Kings of Metal came out a year later and became their most successful album to date. Today, we put these two albums of steel head-to-head to see which one rides into glory and which one heads to Valhalla. Will it be Fighting the World or will it be Kings of Steel? On this special interim episode, Kenneth Dean, the Dean of Metal is without his metal partner in crime Chris Kaye. Chris is recovering from some sort of cold, cough, sinus thingy. So tonight, the Kenneth Dean flies solo! Tonight Kenneth Dean is going to talk about Debut EP's from 80's metal bands and the stories behind them. As you know, in the 80's heavy metal really began to take off and forge it's own path. While it eventually became subdivided into glam metal and thrash metal and speed and all the other metals you can think of back then, when it first started it was simply heavy metal. Kenneth Dean is going to look at some those band's first releases that were either independently released or released on newly formed independent labels. So sit back, relax, turn it up to 11 and let the debate begin??? International aid is beginning to reach Pakistan as its flooding emergency threatens to leave a third of the country - an area almost the size of New Zealand - underwater. Cargo planes from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates began the international rush to assist the impoverished nation, loaded with tents, food and other daily necessities. Pakistan had already been grappling with a dire economic crisis and an intense heatwave before the monster monsoons hit. Corin Dann spoke to the head of the World Food Programme in Pakistan, Chris Kaye.
